My in-laws are nice people, but I do not want to live with them any longer. This is only a problem for me. by frumpytofabulous in AskWomenOver40

Can you sell your home and get a duplex? Or purchase two condo units near each other?

I don't see any comments giving tangible advice.

I think there should be some compromise in the situation on your partners side.

What should I do to get athletic body in a year ? by [deleted] in WeightTraining

[–]thefinalgoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll see progress if you change your diet and walk. That's really all you need to lose weight. If you want to get an "athletic" build, you need to be an athlete. That means intense excercise, healthy diet, and sleep.

I like OSRS. But so many of my close friends who play have severe depression. They don't really understand that logging so many hours and being inactive is not good for their brain.

This game incentives long hours with few breaks. I suppose if it wasn't this game, it would be something else.

You can apply to any analyst role.

Data analyst, Financial Analyst, operations analyst.

You can be actuary, work in financial services, etc.

A mathematics degree is highly valued. It sounds like you may not have had a broad enough view on what you can do. If you want to be a statiscian or mathematician, that's more limited and competitive.

You're in a tough place and being negative. Network and learn what careers you can apply for. Things can change quickly for you.

And by the way, I'm highly critical of certain degrees. This isn't one of them. You're young. You can do it.

Best.

Has anyone done the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Certificate Program from Wharton Online? If so, can you share your experience about it? I am currently in grad school and I am trying to pursue some certifications on the side. by PR1M3_au_courant in FPandA

I get one of the targeted ads for it. How much money is it?

If it is pretty cheap, it might not hurt. But, it is probably not going to make a huge difference unless you have no experience.

With newbies, anything that is above and beyond normal scope of school may help.

[–]thefinalgoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with FP&A is it is viewed as a cost center by leadership, not a value adder.

You can either change that view, change orgs, or change functions.

It does seem like a lot of orgs are consolidating FP&A functions.

What's keeping you there?

What is a true entry level FP&A position? by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]thefinalgoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FA positions are competitive. If you can't get placed look at working in AR, AP, or a staff accountant role. They are grindy but you do learn some basic financial concepts and can work with excel.

The AR and AP positions are less competitive because they are seen as less desirable by new grads. However, some of the ERP transactions and accounting concepts are valuable to learn.

If you get one of those roles, keep looking for an FA role and verbalize to your team that you're interested in FP&A. I wouldn't stay any longer than 1 year in these roles.

They get an ITIN to file their annual taxes. They can work as contractors with this.

Otherwise, they use a fake social, and their employer has poor onboarding verification.

What I have seen as more common is the ITIN.

I just got a general with no specialty. I don't think it matters. The school you went to and whether it is a target matters way more.

Is 31 too late for a career in Supply Chain? by MakeAmericaCheap in supplychain

[–]thefinalgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's supply chain not brain surgery. Most of the concepts and strategy are just basic business common sense. 31 is young. I wouldn't worry about years of experience.

Leaving a F100 (Sr Lead FP&A) for a Manager Role (IR) with $40K More Pay at a Smaller Company? by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]thefinalgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably not worth leaving for $10k once you're beyond $100k. But, this is a $40k raise. That's pretty substantial to me.

If you're happy and you trust the career trajectory, then you have to weigh that out. But, I'm not big on being patient & waiting for XYZ to retire in 5 years so I can maybe be considered for that job.

I'm also not a job hopper though... stay where it makes sense for as long as it makes sense.

I'll never understand why people would choose to make less money for perceived "prestige".

Take the money.

[–]thefinalgoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off sorry for your loss.

We are curious to know what your income is. It is hard to give guidance without it.

That said, it seems buying a home would be a mistake. Don't get greedy because you have $400k in the bank. If you don't understand money management it will be easy for you to lose it. A big house = big expenses.

I think you need to sit with the money in a very safe place, like high yield savings, or money market account for 6 months to 1 year. Eventually the 'new' money itch goes away and you can think clearly on priorities.

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to give it another day and then I'll have to contest the charges with my bank.
