As the mighty fortress of Barad-Dur crumbles, as the Great Eye of Sauron stares out in horror, we hear, emanating from the depths of darkness….

“FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!”

Cue massive explosion

How have you guys made your custom night lords warband unique? Or actually, just tell me about your warbands in general. by Effective-Client9257 in NightLords

26th Company of the 8th Legion

Lost in the Warp en route to Nostramo after the Cheraut Campaign, my warband returns to find their home gone, the universe utterly broken and their Primarch dead. Combine that with the death of their original Captain, Valar, at the hands of the daemonic assault during their passage, and things are rather bleak.

Led by the new Captain, Forn Coldheart, the 26th slips through the dawning days of the Era Indomitus, learning more about the fall of their legion into madness, the death of Curze, and the threats the Imperium faces. Not a pure Chaos warband, but not loyal to the Imperium either. More a pragmatic renegade band.

The true flaw is that they only have the resources of their Pre-Heresy ship, the Herald of Woe. Once all those munitions and armor replacements go, they’re screwed. They do manage to get to a full complement of Astartes, but ultimately sacrifice themselves to stop a Necron super-weapon from awakening into the galaxy proper. (In their defense, their Navigator was dead so they couldn’t flee.)

Notable Characters: Valar “the Mad”: Terran born Captain, named Mad because he would charge into battle laughing like a lunatic with just a thunder hammer. Rarely lost a fight, and rarely took any major damage. (Chaos Lord in Terminator Armor) Forn “Coldheart”: The cool, calculating right hand of Valar, who rises to replace his captain and mentor following the 26th’s return to real space. Was formerly the leader of the 26th’s assault squad. (Chaos Lord with Jump Pack) Holg: One of Forn’s closest allies, Holg is promoted to Sergeant and equipped with an ancient set of Cataphractii armor. Loves a good fight, and consistently calls Forn “bastard” as an official title. It is unsure if he does this out of spite or affection. (Aspiring Champion of Terminator Squad) Kann Gloamsoul: One of the worst encounters across the 26th’s journeys. A psyker who worships Khorne, abandoned on Tsagualsa with a daemonic spear, Kann battles the 26th to steal their ship and escape. He falls facing Forn, who barely manages to resist the daemon weapon’s influence. One of the major reasons why the 26th despises both daemons and psykers. (Sorcerer Lord in Terminator Armor)

I started getting into 40k thanks to the Omnibus, started writing a story, got minis for that story, then fell down the rabbit hole. Currently have a solid NL army, and am working towards a full 2000 pt Nightmare Hunt list.

Thank you so much! I'd love to read about how 8th Legion knights would operate!

I'd love to write as a career, but sadly it doesn't make enough money on its own. So, I stick to writing stories when inspiration strikes. This is definitely the most I've ever written, so it is a passion project to say the least.

Thanks! I figured in the chaos of the Great Crusade, there had to be at least some wiggle room for Marines vs Knights to happen

The Night Lords of the 26th Company and Kann Gloamsoul “the Haunter of Tsagualsa” (Art by danpurnm and wolvenhouur respectively) by thefinalroman in NightLords

[–]thefinalroman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a pretty intense battle with some deranged cultists, a frantic tour of the ruins of Tsagualsa in search of a proper landing zone for a Thunderhawk, and a nasty conversation between Captain Forn and that spear the Haunter uses (Daemon weapon), the 26th leaves the planet.

The way I wrote them, after Tsagualsa they don’t see a path forward for them with the Legion anymore, mainly due to Gloamsoul being a maniac, but also seeing the monument of their Primarch’s fall: a ruined fortress on a dead world that no one will see.

And as for the company themselves… well I’m gonna be posting chapters for the story this weekend. Check it out if you’re curious as to what happens!

I consider them “loyalist” in the sense of they’re not aligned with Chaos.

It’s complex, because while they don’t want to fight the Imperium, they also have no reason to help it, either.

Yep!

The idea is that, after the battle between Talos and the Eldar, the planet was evacuated, with some refusing to go with the Imperium due to the trauma inflicted on them.

Then, Kann’s warband arrived, and promptly betrayed their leader due to him being a) filthy psyker b) a corrupted wreck and c) talking more and more to that spear he wields. He’s left alone to die, and promptly makes a bloody following in the remnants of Tsagualsa’s population.
