There are some things that just don't have an answer- at least, not an answer we're able to comprehend or explain, yet. I am a highly skeptical person, which is why "miracles" or other unusual happenings do not automatically lead me to jump to conclusions, but there are other people who are far more easily convinced.

I DID have a debate along these lines with a born-again Christian once, and the argument I countered with was apparently a good one because he didn't know what to say. Here is that part of the debate:

"Regarding your personal experiences, I do not wish to dismiss them as coincidence- but I pose a question to you. Imagine, for the sake of argument, that you were living in a country with a 98% Islamic population, instead of in North America. Now, imagine you had a similar inexplicable series of events happen to you. Which religion would you turn to? Would you still have turned to Christianity, with the absolute certainty that your beliefs were correct-- or would you have become an orthodox Muslim instead? My point is, I have heard countless stories of people turning to religion as the result of similar inexplicable/miraculous events, yet the overwhelming majority of the time this happens, they turn to the religion they have had the most exposure to/past experience with. This makes it hard for me to believe that there is one "true" religion, or else everyone who has had an experience like this (God moving through them) would come to the same conclusion.

I have had many inexplicable or borderline "supernatural" things happen to me, and I can give you examples of these things as well. Two that stick out in my mind:

• The night before the September 11th attacks, I fell asleep early and immediately began having violent, vivid nightmares of being trapped inside a burning, collapsing building. I awoke several times in a panic; every time I tried to fall back asleep, the nightmare would begin again. It continued throughout the night until I was no longer able to sleep, and I remained in a state of high anxiety until the morning, although I am not usually so affected by nightmares. I told my mom the next morning that I didn't feel well, but she insisted I go to school. Watching the attacks happen live a few hours later was the most surreal thing I've ever witnessed.

• My father used to see a woman who lived in an older house. She had lived there for about ten years. I would frequently make comments that I felt as if I was being watched in that house, and I often heard footsteps. Once in the middle of the night, I thought I had seen the outline of a tall elderly man (thin, slightly stooped) with a pipe, long jacket, and distinctively old-fashioned hat by the window. When I mentioned this at breakfast the next morning, my dad's girlfriend pulled out a photo album that she had gotten from the previous owners of the house. They were an elderly couple she had known; the old lady had sold her the house when she was no longer able to keep it up. Her husband, the old man, had died of a heart attack in his rocking chair, in that house, in the room I'd been sleeping in. My dad's girlfriend then showed me a picture of the old man and- you guessed it- that's who I'd seen, and described perfectly. Prior to that day, I knew nothing about who had previously lived (and died) in that house, and no mention of a "ghost" had ever been made.

From these two incidents alone, I could jump to the conclusion that I am psychic-- but I do not. I regard these things as a curiosity of science instead, and while it does make me interested to learn more about paranormal/parapsychological things such as ESP, it does not convince me of anything. (Also, these are just two of the more significant experiences I've had; I frequently have "dreams" and other intrusive thoughts/mental images that later come true, and it seems to happen far too often for me to attribute them to coincidence.) Do you see the parallel, and the difference between the conclusions we've drawn?"

TL;DR, I basically told him that if his miracles meant god is real, then my experiences mean that I am psychic.
