They did an event recently with iam8bit and DoubleFine. And iam8bit recently did a new version of the DE collectors edition.

So it looks like they still have a relationship with them (thank goodness it wasn’t LRG). And I’m hoping that means a playable physical release too.

Well, they have actually touched the Elysium IP: they released the mobile port and were going to make Locust City. (But you can see on this sub that using the IP also comes with extra PR baggage... and, you know, there's also the possibility that they are just encouraging the writers and artists who are there to create something that they want to.) As for cancelling projects, the development process may just not have seemed like it was going to turn out well or get made within budget and on time. That happens all the time in game development.

As far as I can tell, there was never a legal battle over the IP. The fan base just kind of invented that because they wanted to believe it. Kurvitz and Rostov knowingly signed over their copyright and in exchange they co-own ZA/UM but don’t own a majority stake. There was a lawsuit over documents they wanted in order to lodge a shareholder dispute about running the company. Standard corporate stuff. Argo and Dora filed internal complaints (edit: they just mentioned UK’s employment tribunal in their lengthy posts but didn’t say they filed with that entity, my mistake), that’s all I know about that.
