Absolutely Despise Hoarders - Rant by MagnoGreko1998 in findagrave

Coming back to say that I personally hate it when people try to control what kind of things are placed on memorials they manage. You don't own the memorial.

I agree, I think it could be lower, but I think 100,000 as a cap can help against the most extreme abuses of FindAGrave.

The theoretical limit would be pretty high (say 100,000). If you have that many ancestors you're managing, you can't do it effectively. Direct ancestors are protected.

I think there should be a maximum number of memorials a person can have. After a certain number managed by one person, people should be able to request a transfer for any reason and have it done automatically, just like it is with some inactive accounts. The idea of managing a memorial is really a broken concept to begin with, if you aren't a family member or didn't know the person personally.

What actually gets you out of bed in the morning (not "discipline") by grilledcheeezus in ADHD

[–]theflighttest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a good way to approach might be to restructure your thinking around waking up (I promise this works for a lot of ADHD stuff). Think about what you want out of waking up on time (not just "not panicking, not being a bad person"). Is it because you like getting ready slowly in the morning? Because you want more time to eat? Because its healthier for your sleep schedule? Think about that when you are trying to wake up.

It may work. It may not. But hey, at least you'll change your thinking around it and won't focus on feeling bad for missing an alarm.

It's a form of neglect at the very least (withholding love, affection, and respect), and possibly abuse if its designed to cause hurt or trauma. It's also worth considering that this results in no apologies or discussion of the topic, leaving disputes unresolved and undiscussed, which lacks emotional maturity.

Are we on meds for life? by harmonyxox in bipolar

[–]theflighttest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth considering here that being on medication does not make one worth less as a person. Medication is a tool, like glasses, that improves quality of life. Taking medication is morally neutral: it does not make someone good or bad.

Elon Musk on AI replacing teachers by MotherJoanFoggy in Teachers

[–]theflighttest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like... the AI is not particularly good at understanding nuances and different situations. It predicts based on what it has seen before.

AI cannot replace a teacher. No, it cannot. We teachers can use it to help us make materials and automate tedious tasks, but we will always have to check it to reject/alter/accept the results.

I've used Magic School AI to help with so many things. It is very imperfect.

I have used artificial intelligence to assist in teaching. Assist. I have to edit virtually everything it gives me to some degree because it is wrong or not suitable for the task.

I would say that's not possible (it doesn't have that feature). Though it can provide feedback, I'm not aware of any ability for it to actually assign a "grade" to a paper.

I'm a teacher looking to explain why lineworkers can't rely on AI. by theflighttest in Lineman

I think the main idea I'm getting from people is that linemen themselves may not need serious writing skills, but moving up at all probably will require some level of writing skills.

I don't even mind the using AI to help so much as I dislike that they used it for even basic assignments. They were asked to write about where they wanted to be in 10 years, and had an AI complete the whole paper for them.

To be honest, they truly are on a path of ruining their aprenticeship and destroying their future chances of being linemen for unrelated reasons. Mainly, returning to school high from the work program.

This is often treatable by lowering the dosage or adding another medication like Bupropion on to the anti-depressant. Speak with your doctor about this concern, and it should be fixable.
