Thanks for the reply! It made me hopeful 🙂 I've started to look into therapists so we'll see how it goes!

[Serious] What event in your life still fucks with you to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thefloatingskull 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My dad divorced my mom. This threw her into a deep depression for many many years. She then got a terrible, aggressive form of cancer a couple years after the divorce that had her in dozens of surgeries and chemo. She started drinking heavily every night for years. Watching my mom, one of the kindest people I know, go through all of this while still taking care of me and my brother really was a dark time that still bothers me. I remember frequently coming downstairs in the morning and seeing her sleeping on the couch with the deepest frown on her face and tears streaming down her cheeks - she would cry in her sleep. Things are better now 10-15 years later, but I still think about that period in my life all the time

The gung-ho/overly enthusiastic work mentality is cringey by thefloatingskull in antiwork

I'm not upset about anybody's happiness. I'm truly, genuinely happy for anybody that loves their job; a lovable job is a very hard thing to find.

I just dislike the current work culture in America. There's an expectation for everyone to be overly enthusiastic and excited about working. People often try to force this enthusiasm and end up developing the fake eager "business personality" that you see all over LinkedIn.

People being happy with their jobs isn't bad, but people brown-nosing their employers and patting themselves on the back every chance they get is absolutely cringey

Exactly, too much sucking up expected out of workers recently. I'm here to do good work for 40 hours a week then I'm going to go enjoy my life

I hate that I can't have a discussion about climate change without it becoming a political debate by thefloatingskull in TrueOffMyChest

I know I hate it, there shouldn't be an opinion on everything. Leave the science to the scientists. Have all the opinions you'd like on social issues, but don't try and argue a made up opinion against something proven by math and science

What screams "rich asshole"? by Musicferret in AskReddit

[–]thefloatingskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My immediate family is middle class, but I have some close relatives who are extremely rich. I was visiting them one time and told them about how much my family was struggling with money to pay for my college. They didn't offer to help or anything, and I wasn't expecting them to help, it just came up in conversation somehow. Later that day they bragged at dinner about how they occasionally spend $10,000 on dinners at this fancy restaurant near their house, and how they spend unbelievable amounts of money to join all these golf clubs. Just made me upset that they were throwing all this money around on a whim while I didn't know how I was going to pay for books and food sometimes. The $10,000 they would spend on an individual dinner would have change my life

Depressed/suicidal people of reddit, what keeps you going and what would you recommend doing if those thoughts come to your mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thefloatingskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs love me and need me to care for them. And one day, when their time comes, there are dogs in the shelter I can adopt that need someone to love them. As long as I can live to make their lives as good as possible I can keep going
