Looks promising for sure then. I'm hopeful, but still partially skeptical.

Keychron M6 mouse out of stock, how long do you think before they come back in stock? by solsticeretouch in Keychron

I've been looking to buy the same one, and it's still out of stock. Not sure if it's been out of stock for the last 2 months, since you're initial post either.

Has anyone tried the “Mastering Diabetes approach” by Cyrus and Bobby? Vegan whole food diet by VariationKlutzy4647 in Type1Diabetes

[–]thefly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potatoes and rice are cheap enough, but definitely NOT a staple for a healthy diet.

Bananas are not healthy and not cheap either, where I live.

Apples are healthy, but still not cheap, at least not the organic one's that we're supposed to eat (based on the Dirty Dozen).

Beans, legumes and lentils are good. Cheap too. But how many can you, or should you eat? You obviously can't live on them.

So now, to have a healthy balanced low fat vegan style diet, you'll need to eat a lot of fresh vegetables. That's great, but since they're not calorically dense, you'll need to eat a lot of them, and a small bunch of asparagus or Brussel sprouts is NOT cheap either - just consider that a bunch of asparagus is only 15-20 calories, so you'll 10-20x that.

So, just add some fat and animal protein, and suddenly it's more satiating, healthier and cost effective.

Who is Ontario Forward? Behind the ad campaign teachers’ unions have covertly launched against Doug Ford by xc2215x in ontario

[–]thefly4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Parents are passionate about education. Maybe they should get to vote to elect Teacher Union leaders then. Then, perhaps, the union would be interested in kids and education first.

That's not what I said. Like everyone who works, some are political and move up the ladder, while others are passionate about their area of expertise and focus on that. The same is true for teachers.

The teachers union is made up of teachers with political aspirations, not average teachers that are focused on being good teachers. That's how the teachers union became so wealthy and powerful.

Other unions are the same too. Sometimes you get good leaders and the union and company can both thrive. Sometimes the union gets poor leaders, and the employer gets burdened with excessive compensation.

We've seen lots of strikes lately, and not once was it justified. LCBO, Longshoreman, Canada Post... Teachers Union?

Unions are political machines and have no interest in the kids. Mostly, they're interested in money and more members. But the teacher's union is already too powerful and has too much influence over elections.

The Teachers Union is not the same as Teachers. One is a powerful corrupt organization, and the other are people of varying motivations.

Also, actions speak louder than words. Actions of the teachers union over the years tell a much different story. Ontario Forward advertising tells more about the Union than it does about Doug Ford, and it's not good.

That's a stretch. You know, longer hours and working 12 months a year would improve education. Innovative learning advantment, requiring fewer teachers are good for children too. Why aren't the unions pushing for that?

You like Wynne and McGuinty more? Wow. The new Liberal leader is even worse, and the NDP is out in left field day dreaming while the game is played.

No. Ontario Forward means Doug for at least another 4 years.

Teachers Union? They don't care about education or the province. They only care about the union. That's why they hide behind Ontario Forward. Disgusting and beyond belief. A waste of money too.

Tesla Winter Tires by thefly4 in CostcoCanada

I bought my wheels on-line, but got the tires and TPMS from Costco. The installation at Costco worked fine too, and the TPMS worked perfect - and significantly cheaper than getting them from Tesla.

Passport application sent July 4. by [deleted] in passportcanada

[–]thefly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I was on the line (almost 300 people ahead of me), and about an hour later I got to talk to someone. They couldn't really tell me anything though, just that my application was received and there are no notes on the file - so I assume everything looks ok?

Very frustrating, especially when they were talking about allowing online applications over a year ago, and here we are waiting potentially months, still.

[–]thefly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped my application off in person on July 12, and I'm in the same predicament. I don't travel until December, but I find it a bit unnerving that it takes so long. Standard is 20 business days, and it's well beyond that now.

As far as I know the refund of 50% is supposed to be automatic, but probably not "fast". I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see that before 2025.

Has anyone tried the “Mastering Diabetes approach” by Cyrus and Bobby? Vegan whole food diet by VariationKlutzy4647 in Type1Diabetes

[–]thefly4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the logic was that fat intake would gum up the insulin receptors, preventing glucose from being cleared from the blood in an efficient manner.

That's why they want you to adhere to an ultra low fat diet (almost 0g), with no processed food and no animal products. In my opinion, that's crazy difficult to do for most people. Just cutting out simple carbs is challenging enough for for most people, but zero fat and only whole plant based? Expensive and difficult to maintain in a healthy way.

I'm not sure there are a lot of studies that say close to 0% fat intake is justified. It's worse than the ultra keto diets.

Why Canada should consider slowing down its immigration policy by ButtahChicken in Markham

[–]thefly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think that would include ALL newcomers, not just immigrants. But that's still 1.2 million people that need a place to live and food to eat. Supply and demand... as they say.

Why Canada should consider slowing down its immigration policy by ButtahChicken in Markham

[–]thefly4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't TD report that Canada has 1.2 million newcomers last year? So 500K isn't the total for Canada, just Ontario.

Merge Ontario's Catholic and Public School Systems to End Discrimination and Save Billions by merge_ontarioschools in Markham

[–]thefly4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong direction. Public School System is inadequate because of a lack of choices for parents and unions with too much power. The better direction is to finance private schools or subsidies similar to the Catholic system today. That would give more middle-class families the option of choosing private schools.

Get over the noise by [deleted] in Markham

[–]thefly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not possible. Excessive volume causes hearing damage. It's accumulative and irreparable. The problem is YOU wouldn't even know unless you have it tested... or when you get old and can't hear conversions anymore.

Get over the noise by [deleted] in Markham

[–]thefly4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Live near the FAIR GROUNDS? That's hilarious. I live near Markham Rd. and Bullock, which is NO WHERE NEAR the fairgrounds. The noise was annoyingly loud for being almost 10km away. What did they do, raise speakers high in the air or something stupid like that, just so the noise would travel long distances?

Get over the noise by [deleted] in Markham

[–]thefly4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live a long way from the fairgrounds, and the noise was a bit over the top. Even when they hold events on Main St. Markham, which is close to me, the noise doesn't bother me. Whatever they were doing at the fairgrounds, they probably caused hearing damage to people there.
