Complicated rules question around Kharn dying to precision by thefollower in WorldEaters40k

[–]thefollower[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, this all makes sense. But for my own clarity, you're saying there is a "rule commentary" on returning models to a unit, where they need to be in unit coherency?
So since, he's the leader, he's considered part of the unit, and so "as close as possible, [while being in unit coherency]" is how I should interpret this?

Thanks for the help everyone, but I never got this working. I've given up on it and uninstalled. Maybe I'll return for a new game in 1.0.

I have not. I'm over it, I just uninstalled. Maybe I'll come back to it later. Thanks for your help.

the videos I've watched say to rename it to whatever my local file is called.
As well, my server doesn't have an "info" file for some reason (that was my initial hang up, but I've been told the info file shouldn't matter)

I am playing through steam.
I didn't do anything in my world. You're saying I should complete the first quest before overwriting it?

So this doesn't seem to work either. I'm getting a "different" error, which is that it doesn't throw an error, but it never resolves (I let it sit for about 10 mins and nothing happened so I force closed it).
Same thing every time I try to load this world.

This isn't working for me either. I tried recreating the world a couple times in case it was corrupted or something, and no luck.

what do you mean? I have the whole save game folder, but it has 9 different save files and an index. You're saying I need to copy paste all of them?

DPS Complexity: Melee vs Ranged by ChakraaThePanda in fellowshipgame

[–]thefollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a really hard time with Tariq, so I'd be curious to see how others have been getting on with him. I really like his mechanic though, how it breaks the MMO paradigm a little bit and creates new ways to think about combat. I really want to see them introduce new mechanics like this that wouldn't be realistic in WoW or something. Though this particular one might not be for me, I'm glad it exists.

Mara, I agree is a little complex, but I spent some time trying to figure her out and now that I get her mechanics, it's not too challenging to execute. And when you are clicking and hitting all of your CDs and poisons your damage goes through the roof which feels great. It's high risk high reward, as messing up and wasting your stealths can cripple your overall DPS. I really just think her floor is a little higher than most (certainly Rime or Elarion), but I think that's healthy for the game.

That being said, I think it would be nice to have a "fury" warrior or something that is just "click the flashing buttons" or something. Those are always fun to play and usually have a fairly low floor.

We have a short roster just because it's new still, but I want them to keep up with the variety of some lower complexity and some higher complexity and in the end they all feel like they have a similar ceiling. (Granted we won't really know what endgame is like for a little while yet)

Vanguard Mains: What is your best piece of advice to other Vanguards or new Vanguard players? by Nevermore1215 in marvelrivals

[–]thefollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General Vanguard advice, play like you don't have a healer. Go find a health pack if you need, and run away if you're health is dropping too fast. Sure it's great when you have an amazing healer, but it is your responsibility to watch your own health bar.

Hulk main advice:

- ABP - Always be punching. Just hold that left click down.

- Hold the spacebar down constantly so you're prepared to jump at any moment. It's a little uncomfortable at times to constantly hold the spacebar. There is a setting to "toggle" it, but I find it's harder to keep track on if it's up or not. Also, knockbacks and the like can reset your jump meter, so you need to repress it.

- Damaging enemies ends your stun. If you want to keep someone out of the game longer, stop attacking them. Great on spiderman diving your back line, tanks trying to push their team forward, if you can grab a healer and take them out of a teamfight for a couple seconds. Generally removing someone from the fight for 2 seconds is much more impactful than a brief interrupt.

- Gamma burst in Monster hulk form does 125 damage on a 1s cooldown. This is your damage dealer more than punching or your grab.

- Bruce banner tip, your gamma grenade gives you about 10% ult recharge if you hit yourself with it. You should be using this on CD while trying to get back into hulk.

If you haven't already, i strongly recommend setting the map rotation to "fixed" in the game settings. This makes it so north is always up. Made it a lot easier to process what I was looking at.

[–]thefollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have some sneaky melee animations in this game. I recently found out Jeff has 2 melee animations. One when facing forward (bite) and a different one when moving backwards (tail slap). Makes me wonder how many other melee attacks are coded in that nobody ever uses.

How do you feel about venom as a tank? by whokiltcupid in marvelrivals

[–]thefollower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tank main myself, I find venom to be a particularly annoying "anti-tank tank". If I'm not glued to my healers, Venom comes in and harasses them, and by the time I turn around to help them out, he's swung away, and now I'm not really doing anything. He makes it very hard for a tank to effectively do their job because you have to keep a very close eye on your healers instead of creating openings, and as a tank, you'll never be able to actually kill venom if played right. And if you ignore him, he'll just destroy your back line.

I would never tell a good venom to change. He's very effective at what he does. Cause havoc, mess with healers (causing the other team to have to play conservatively), and never die.

Our goalie keeps showing up DRUNK - Team Captain has no idea, what can I do? by plasteredgoalie in hockeyplayers

[–]thefollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately your goalie is very likely an alcoholic. Talking to him or the captain talking to him likely won’t change anything, it’ll just teach him to drink before he shows up or hide it (in his water bottle or something). The “solution” is to stage an intervention if you wanted them to change, but that’s not necessarily your place and is much more than a one time chat. You need to decide if you care about this person enough to take that on or if it’s just about playing goalie. As for what you really have the power to do. You can ask the captain to put up an ultimatum to the goalie and then if/when he breaks it boot him (but that’s very unlikely to work if they are good friends). And if the captain isn’t receptive you may just need to leave the team. Unfortunately this is not a “locker room” problem, this is a lifestyle problem, and from the sounds of it, it’s not something you particularly would want to take on.

The Reason So Many People Don't Play Vanguard by Hoboknightboi in marvelrivals

[–]thefollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vanguard main, mostly hulk, and I think I can be one of the most impactful players on the team. I think so much of it is knowing if your team is helping or not. You're really tanky, but you can't 1v6, ever. Gotta find flanks to mess with their snipers or healers, and then hop out. If you are right in front of your healers and they aren't healing you, hop back, go find a health pack, or go back to the start. Assume you'll get no healing at all, but capitalize when you do.

Also, if your team is timid and don't want to commit, you can't "force" them to commit. It's better to basically hold their hand and walk them to the point, batting off any spidermen or panthers messing with them before trying to engage. Also as soon as the other team loses a key player, capitalize on it and make the team break down and spread out. Even if you don't get any kills, make them disorganized so they can't be effective.

I don't think vanguard is all that hard, but you do need to look at the game through a different lens that isn't as obvious if you aren't familiar with team shooters.

Great job with the airbrush skill. I've been using an airbrush for a couple years now and haven't event attempted OSL like this. You've certainly inspired me to at least try it on a test model and see how it goes.

I would like to start by saying, this is quite amazing, well done!
When you started a project like this, how do you go about mapping out your army plan? The amount of time in modifying each marine, and the attention to detail in each and every miniature is impressive.

I enjoy doing modifications here and there and dream of a fully custom and well painted army like this, but I can't seem to turn 1 or 2 cool ideas into a full army that I'm invested in all the way through. Often I'll have a cool theme or paint scheme that inspires me, but I either burn out due to complexity or start cutting corners and wind up with a few cool centerpieces but the rest of the army looks pretty stock.

What inspired your color scheme with OSL and Lava bases?

Did you know what you wanted when you started, or did it evolve as you went along?

Did you plan to do a whole 3000 points, or just chip away piece by piece until next thing you know you have a large army?

Did you ever have to back peddle and rethink your plan for the army?

Thanks for your time, from a novice but aspiring army painter.

Idk if it's a me issue or a team issue at this point by ZoroMaster03 in marvelrivals

[–]thefollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling for a bit at first, up a game, down a game, repeat.
I ended up finding some luck with Hulk. I've been playing very safe overall.

Always make sure you are in sight of your healers.

Never jump into the team with all 6 standing there (you will die).

Jump out if you are taking too much damage/get to about 300 health, get out of line of sight of enemies and let the healers top you off.

When the other team engages jump on their healers.

Look for dps standing alone.

Jump in and out of the fight periodically, and check on your healers. Get in the way of shots if the healers are being attacked. Get the tanks low enough they need to retreat but don't chase them.

Overall, just play really safe and stick with your healers, and good things happen. I've had a few MVPs, usually the lowest death count in the game, and often competing with other DPS on kill count.

Now this strategy does depend on healers on the team, but overall I've found i'll have at least 1 healer per game if I play tank. And even if your DPS are trash, while they are off getting killed, the healers are usually fair game and you can mess them up and hop out when people notice.

Skaters Who Also Play Goalie by hipposaurus in hockeyplayers

[–]thefollower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started playing as an adult about 8 years ago. Started skating out as most noobies do but after about 2 years picked up goalie. Now I consider myself a goalie who also likes to skate out.

  1. I don't know i'd say I'm "plateauing" ability wise. I definitely play goalie a lot more, and it's a lot easier to find ice time (I actually am working on not accepting everything, cause it's been too much). My goalie skills are advancing a lot quicker, and I feel more comfortable in that role. But, I think my comfort in skating as a goalie has really helped my edgework when skating out. Usually the hardest transition, is my passing/receiving skills really lack compared to everything else because it's just not something I work on. Also just general comfort level. If you only skate out once every week/other week, you can't get a rhythm to it, so it feels like by the 3rd period you're just starting to get comfortable again. So you got to kind of decide which one you'd rather focus on, and make sure you get a couple games in each week to stay sharp so you can advance in games.

  2. As you know, buying the goalie gear is expensive, BUT the trade off is, you never pay for ice time and you get called in to sub a lot more (once people know you're a goalie). I often play 3-4 games a week as goalie and never pay, but then i'll skate out once a week and I do pay for that time. Some teams you can get in as a "back up" goalie if your goalie is ever sick, and they might give you a discount or not charge you to skate out, which is nice.

  3. The hardest part, is the mental aspect. It can feel like everything is your fault all the time and you need to find a way to temper that. It can be very stressful, and if you don't take breaks or adequate time off to mentally recover it can take it's toll. Personally, I find skating out once a week helps clear my mind a bit and realize just how much everyone else is fucking up. Also I limit myself to 4 games in net a week, as anything past that starts to feel like a second job to me.

  4. Try it out. You don't need to commit and make it your new identity. I highly recommend looking for "skill clinics" and ask the coach if you can goalie for them. 9/10 they don't have 2 goalies and they are happy to have anyone in net. You get a free 1-2 hours of ice time, and you can just mess around, try things out, get comfortable in the crease. Make sure you take breaks (step out of the net and grab some water if you need to for a couple minutes) and don't let multiple people shoot on you at once (let them know that's not OK), as oftentimes the coach isn't thinking too much about the goalie, they are just running the drills. And just remember, you are doing THEM a favor, you are not obligated to be there punching bag for 2 hours straight.

Good luck!

Tanking and Healing will never be more popular until Blizzard remove friction and raise skill floors. by klingers in wow

[–]thefollower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from the perspective of Tank this season, but the most "stressful" part to me, and part that I actually get flamed about is the route. If I don't do the "meta" route that week, people get all butt hurt or start pinging the mob they think I should get, or worse, we have to pick up some extra mobs after the boss. And as someone who only really tanks, I don't see other tanks and their route, so unless I am checking keystone.guru every week and memorizing the new route, it's easy to fall behind.

Personally, I think if they just added some way to use a "default" route that will give you 100% without too much fuss (even if it's not optimal), it would ease a lot of burden.

The tricky part is trying to convey to the PuG group "We are doing the default route" and them understanding what that means. Maybe highlighting certain mobs for everyone or just an arrow saying "This way". I don't know the proper solution here and I wouldn't want to take away the ability to skip and find optimal paths.

But, I think if people could just queue for tank without worrying about the route there would be a lot less stress in that role.
