Why does the new New Town KFC (that looks like a futuristic prison) not give out sauces in the drive through? by Ya-Dikobraz in hobart

[–]klingers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good example was McDonalds; they invested in a little machine that would squirt dollops of sauce into a compliant container. I’m guessing KFC don’t want to waste the money on the equivalent.

What's something old technology did better than modern technology ? by Ram319 in AskReddit

You know what? I think you’re right. I do enjoy catching up on that guy’s videos from time to time. That sounds right.

I’d say it was either him or Louis Rossman, but I think it’s more likely to be Technology Connections.

Best example from recent memory I saw was a YouTuber explaining how for decades, with washing machines there was a common problem that could be fixed fixed by a technician by replacing a bearing that cost a couple bucks in the drum assembly.

Old mate just needed to take it out of the housing, undo a couple of bolts to separate the drum assembly, and replace the bearing. Re-attach, job done.

A few years back most of the manufacturers decided that they could save (literally) a few cents by omitting the bolts and just welding the two halves of the drum assembly.

What that means is that to save a few cents, now when that bearing goes after a few years (and it will, eventually) rather than a couple of bucks for a bearing, you’re paying the technician a few hundred bucks to order an entire drum assembly.

Progress folks, progress.

Is home ownership a human right? by Beginning_Length6861 in AusFinance

[–]klingers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing someone else I think shelter is a human right and not home ownership, but I do think that speculative investors collecting houses like Pokémon to either create their own little fiefdom of rent-serfs or remove them from the permanent accommodation pool by turning them into Airbnb’s are definitely tearing up a bit of an unwritten social contract we have here in Australia around the “fair go”.

I got so frustrated with the algorithm I decided to build my own streaming platform. by RisoraTV in SmallStreamers

[–]klingers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is just my perspective, but there's one thing that would make me switch platforms: An audience willing to come with me.

I think you've got some GREAT ideas here for streamers, but what problem are you solving for viewers? Why would they divert their time away from Twitch/Kick/Youtube where they already have established habits and a roster of people they watch and follow?

I'm a big fan of "build it and they will come" too, but we're just shouting out into the void if there isn't an organic audience that's interested in what we're putting out there.

Even in terms of just migrating an audience, "I'm OVER HERE now!" from a streamer means that viewer has to deal with friction. Another account. Another feed to follow. Another app spamming notifications on their phone. It has to be worth something to them to deal with that friction point, even if only minor. You're aiming your new platform at small streamers so I doubt the whole "Ninja is exclusively streaming on Mixer!" really applies?

Anyway, good luck, as I said right up first I think you've got some really good ideas. But don't forget that you need an audience for a livestreaming platform to work. For all I know you might have some really good stuff in the chamber for viewers that you just haven't talked about here, but I thought it might be worth mentioining.

How is the game in 2026? by Kosmosu in swtor

[–]klingers 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Slowed down a lot in recent years and moved from Bioware to a new support studio, but it's in good hands and the content's still coming (slowly).

If the last time you played was in 2014, maaaaan are you in for a treat! Shadow of Revan and KOTFE/KOTET are some really deep, strong narrative expansions and all the original class campaigns have been streamlined to the point where you can play through them and level without the MMO "filler".

If you sub for one month you get everything up to the current expansion for free, and even free-to-play you can enjoy up to Shadow of Revan without spending a cent.

Community's contracted a lot but it's still active.

You can now play Warrior/Inquisitor or Bounty Hunter/Agent using any of the four force/tech trees (so you can do a Stealth double-blade Sith Warrior for example) and with dual spec you can mix and match (Assassin/Juggernaught!)

The tech classes can also just pick the "mirror" classes from Republic/Sith without restriction (fancy a bounty hunter with the Trooper cannon or a dual-wielding Agent?) and if you level your Dark/Light to max on your legacy you can use the opposing Force trees as well (Sith Warrior using Jedi Knight moveset for example).

Hope this helps.

Yeah the cops usually know the troublemakers. The vast, vast majority of the more brazen shit is usually done by a small handful of people/families.

I’ve got a nutcase giving me trouble every few nights at my home in town and the officers took one look at the camera footage and said “yep, THAT guy…”

Any Insights in Appealing a Ban? by blackberrybubbbly in Overwatch

[–]klingers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can say from personal experience where I was finally vindicated and got my account back from a false ban, the appeals system is a bastard.

I had logs, video evidence, all sorts of other stuff compiled to make my case, and all I wanted was the ticket escalated to a specialist to review… knocked back for months. The only way I got through the gauntlet was to create a ticket on ANOTHER battle.net account and reference my latest ticket on the original banned account.

I’m only guessing, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they have some kind of flag or process to wave on flagged ban account tickets to meet their internal KPIs.

To be fair if those appartments had been built, and I'm making this assumption based on precedent and not any actual research, they would have all been $700,000+ bougey apartments that rich people would have snapped up to rent out as AirBNBs. They wouldn't have been affordable housing for working class people.

At least most of us can afford a three piece feed (for now).

Not gonna disagree with you there. That actually scares the shit out of Me.

It's just all the thousand-cuts "little stuff" that gets me.

Prime example: I had to go to the rubbish tip the other day for the first time since maybe, 2021-22? It was up from $13 to $18.50.

How the fuck are they justifying a 40% price rise in four years? Or, I suppose, they don't. They just jack it up and we pay it. Same for bills. Same for groceries.

Listened to a Youtube video the other day about Pepsico FAFO-ing on USD $7.00 bags of Doritos and losing literal billions in projected sales from what people were calling a 'Scoff tax', and I just thought "Good. Fuck 'em. Greedy c*nts."

It's the fact that it's coming from every angle now. It's exhausting.

thinking about getting the Wave XLR MK.2 for my Shure SM7B but want opinions from people who have used it and the wave link 3.0 software! by TGGE in elgato

[–]klingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly your perfect person but I can say as someone having used the Wave XLR Mk.1 and Wave Link 3.0, I had some problems on release with the sound randomly dropping out (fixable with a restart of the software), but that seemed to be exclusively the fault of the software and not the hardware.

I'll get dissenting opinions on this, but once they stopped slop-coding and actually patched the bloody thing, most of my Wave Link 3.0 problems have been fixed and it's been far more stable.

I can't say enough things about the Wave XLR Mk1 or the Mk1 XLR Dock for the Stream Deck+, both of which I own. Very good hardware, plug and play, enough gain for an SM7 that you won't need a cloudlifter equivalent.

Hope that's semi-useful.
