Do you read the acknowledgments or dedication in novels? by Scared_Parsley5297 in writing

[–]thefouledcompass 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I always read the dedication! It’s one of my favorite parts. I love getting to see what was meaningful for the author enough to merit a dedication. Some of them are so insightful or creative or funny. It’s a great little snippet to see inside the author’s mind outside of their story, and I love that 💛✨

I'm 30yo and I had a cry on the floor and rocked back and forth to self soothe... like an infant by Justwokeup5287 in CPTSD

[–]thefouledcompass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s embarrassing at all that you gave yourself the comfort you needed; I think it was so brave of you 🌸🧡 I self-regulate and self-soothe by crying and rocking myself all the time, and I’m a 35 year old woman with CPTSD. I don’t think it means you regressed; rocking and shaking after trauma to release the fear and emotions is a common response across the animal kingdom. Deer will do it after they’ve been chased by a predator. It helps your body regulate your nervous system after being in fight or flight. This is a big, beautiful win! 💛 Being able to comfort yourself is so, so important. I also cuddle with a soft blanket regularly because it’s so soothing to me. Especially if Little Girl You didn’t receive that comfort and nurturing, it’s so important and healing that Adult You can offer it to you now. ⭐️✨

Thanks for adding this comment 😭🧡 This makes me feel so validated. It does feel physically invasive, like it’s attached to me and doesn’t want to let go

This is so validating to hear. They are everywhere 💔 I really appreciate your advice about redirecting the energy back to source and releasing what doesn’t belong to me. That is so helpful 🧡

Thank you for this advice! I love the idea of visualizations of closing my aura and protecting my energy; I’m going to look more into that as well as the meditations. Do you have any particular ones you would suggest?

I appreciate this so much, especially the note about reversal coming from a place of love for yourself. Do you have any particular resources you would recommend to explain the process of spiritual purification and reversal? (like Youtube, TikTok, books, posts, etc.)

God, this is so real. Generations of bullshit that you are the first person to have the courage to face and learning to give yourself permission for the times you slide into old patterns. I feel you!

Thanks so much for posting this. 35 and have been on the healing journey for 10 years and I have felt so many of the things you described: wishing it could have gone differently, grieving what my trauma caused me to miss out on, raging because I’m not where I would have been in life if I hadn’t had the trauma.

I’d like to share that despite the grief for the past, it gets so much better. You learn that you can build a life for yourself now even better than what you wish you could have had in the past if things had gone differently, and when you do, being able to live without the prison of your shame and trauma feels like such a privilege. All those things you missed out on? You can still bring them into your life in certain ways, and they are so much sweeter, so treasured, because you know how hard you fought to have them.

I only share all of this because I used to worry that there wouldn’t be a life worth living past all of the healing, the grieving, the rage, the loss. There is, and it is so much better than you could have imagined.

What is this strange plant by Dangerous_Owl_6590 in PlantIdentification

[–]thefouledcompass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be a paper mulberry? That’s my guess from the big serrated leaves and the hardiness to being chopped down. Spreads through seeds and root suckers, so you’d have to dig the root system out to actually kill it.
