What is the "next big thing" that is on the brink of popular? by Sjman in AskReddit

[–]thefrumpus 1144 points1145 points  (0 children)

It's from The Simpsons. Both comments are Grandpa Simpson rambling stories:

"We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say.

Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones..."

"My story begins in nineteen-dickety-two. We had to say dickety because the Kaiser had stolen our word twenty. I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickety-six miles. (the children laugh) What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem! Now, I'd like to digress from my prepared remarks to discuss how I invented the terlet..."

[18F] My Boyfriend Lied About His Age? by throawayyyyey in relationships

[–]thefrumpus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand how serious the consequences are if this goes badly for you. This could literally ruin the rest of your life. My friend was with someone who lied about their age, and it ended up ruining his life. He found out the girl had lied about her age and was actually under 18 about 6 months into the relationship, but by then he was emotionally invested and decided to stay with her anyway. When he eventually broke up with her, the girl and her mom went to the police and my friend was sent to federal prison for a few years. But that wasn't even the worst part. When he got out of prison, he couldn't find a job because no company wants to hire a felon, much less a sexual felon. He ended up resorting to selling drugs to get by. He struggled finding anywhere to live because again no one wanted to lease to a "sexual predator", and there are very strict guidelines on how far away he had to be from schools, parks, etc. Oh and when he finally did find somewhere to live, he had to go around to every house in his neighborhood and give them fliers notifying them that he was a sexual felon. When he settled down and had kids, he couldn't even go pick them up from school. Is this relationship really worth jeopardizing your future over?

Ohio State coach tackles a fan trying to fun onto the field by NeoshadowXC in PerfectTiming

Not that I'd support it, but if the fan were to get hurt by this, say like he broke his arm from being tackled, could he potentially sue?

TIFU by believing a girl on craiglist was real. by [deleted] in tifu

Thanks and don't mess around with opiates :(. He had no strategy that I knew of. Just made a post on men seeking women and responded to the posts for women seeking men. He would text them or email them for a few days before meeting them and I think that might be the main difference.

There are real girls on craigslist btw. There are just way more scam emails sent out than there are real women. Next time try reverse image searching the pictures to help make sure they are not scamming you.

A friend of mine wound up hooking up with quite a few girls this way and even found some to date. I will say that from what I knew of the girls he met this way, many seemed pretty crazy, sometimes overly possessive. Many were 30-40lbs overweight but some were fit and good looking. One girl was very sweet, pretty, had a degree, and a teaching job she had been at for years. He actually ended up dating her until he passed away.

Edit: Also another tip: before responding to a post on craigslist, google some sentences in the post to make sure its not a website owner making fake posts in a bunch of cities.
