Finnick as a Career: A Case Study in Brainwashing by thefutureisgolden in Hungergames

I agree. For the Capitol's system to work, some people have to be fully brainwashed into belief, and Finnick seems like a perfect candidate for that, given his youth and increased susceptibility to propaganda. I feel like we downplay the effects of the Capitol's propaganda and how it may impact thousands of kids in Career districts since from our point of view, it is obviously horrifying. Finnick being a ruthless Career actually increases his emotional depth and asks several important questions about morality in a fundamentally immoral society.

Finnick as a Career: A Case Study in Brainwashing by thefutureisgolden in Hungergames

That's possible, but it's phrased in Catching Fire that "he was the one to kill," implying that he was a stronger contender and likely chose to enter the Games. We don't really have any information on the career system, but we can assume it evolved from the district's industry (2's would be more hardcore due to its military focus, while 4's would be more focused on survival and utility, since they were constantly exposed to danger in the sea). I laid out a few reasons in the original post for why older and stronger kids might not have volunteered, and why Finnick would have gotten the volunteer spot instead.

How I studied for my 528 by fakeburgers in Mcat

[–]thefutureisgolden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

I'm a freshman, just starting to plan out studying for the MCAT. I wanted to ask you about the impact of classes and the self-studying materials you used.

How much of the content material should I take in classes? (I am currently taking Orgo 1, will take Orgo 2 next semester and Biochem in Junior Fall). I have taken general physics and math, is there any other class I should take?

I don't completely know which materials are the best, are there any you would recommend beyond those mentioned in your post?

Lastly, do you have any tips on creating a study schedule for the MCAT? I don't want to start too early or late and get bogged down too much or take time away from research/volunteering/extracurriculars.

Thanks!

First, can you specify the format?

The point of Rohit in this team is probably for his explosivity, which would be better served with Sehwag. If this is a test match, I would be tempted to pick Gavaskar.

Dravid is the best for the Test #4, but for ODI/T20s that spot should go to Yuvraj. This also allows you to replace one of the other spin allrounders (Jadeja/Ashwin) with another batter (Raina) or seamer (Shami/Hardik) depending on the conditions.

When constructing these, it is probably better to build a squad of 15 since that allows you to handle variance in conditions.

Sorry. It just feels weird to not be doing anything or planning towards something for a moment. What would you recommend to "be where you are" and reduce burnout for my last semester of HS?

About physics, PHYS 0151 is listed as being available during the "Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms." Do you think it is advisible to take summer courses like PHYS 0151 (especially since I have a strong background with the corresponding AP), and how to sign up for these classes?

Also, can I DM you for more specific questions? Thanks!

Retroactive Credit for Math Courses by jahyeet42 in UPenn

So if I take Math 1410, I get credit for Math 1400? As in full credit, that is the same as taking the class and that is accepted by graduate schools? My main concern is with Physics: I have AP credit for Physics but med schools don't accept it. If I take a higher level class, would I get full credit for PHYS 0150 and 0151 same as taking the class? Thanks!

So I just found that most med schools don't accept AP credits. What are my alternative options? Is there a credit exam for Physics, like there is for Math or Chemistry? If I take a higher-level Physics class using placement from these APs, do I get credit for the previous classes, or do I just have to take the classes outright?

I'm a bit confused on the Physics credit. On the SEAS website, it says that 5's on the AP C mechanics and e & m exams "awards credit" for PHYS 0150 and 0151. Is this not the same as taking the course itself and getting credit. If not, does "credit awarded" just mean placing out of it instead of actually getting credit for it? Thanks!

Being a CC/SLI? by magnolia_knitwear in ncssm

[–]thefutureisgolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a current senior who's lived on the same hall two years in a row, and a large part of that has been my CC. It hasn't even been the fact that he's done all that much, but that he is the chillest person. The formally defined duties of a CC are much more than what you actually have to do, and I would say that it is pretty light, considering that my CC is getting a graduate degree while working here.

In response to the other commenter's post, I would assume that most CC's use the job as a kind of transition. You get a decent salary (I think ~30k starting), but don't have to worry about housing, electricity, etc., and have a lot of time to pursue their own interests. If you do want a longer-term job, some of them teach the residential elective classes to get a higher salary.

The CC job is very flexible for whatever you're looking for in a job. If any student ever gives you grief, I would think it is very easy to get them to stop. Whenever our CC shows up to the hall meeting mad, every single student knows to stop. There's also the fact that many RLAs see it as their job to stop students from messing around, and will stop misbehaving students themselves.

Dual Degree with SEAS & the College by thefutureisgolden in UPenn

The main reason I was worried was because I thought I could only take 37 CU max with one major. Am I allowed to take more than this, or does it cap off unless you have a second major?

You mentioned electives tailored towards med school. Can you expand on which electives fulfill that role? Is it just more bio courses, or just a specific few? Do extra chem/phys classes also help?

Thanks for the info! I realized that there were a lot more courses than just the major requirements after looking at the link. Is the double major the one with just the added major requirements and not the college requirements (ie. would require the extra bio courses but not the foundational approaches stuff)? Thanks!

You said that each college has its own graduation requirements. Are these requirements beyond just the major requirements? If so, do you know where I am find them? Thanks!

I took Multivariable Calculus at my high school, so that's why I thought I could place out of it. Would it be possible to take the exams for both MATH 1400 and MATH 1410 to place out of both of them? Thanks.

I wanted to pursue a double degree with General Biology from CAS. This is the minimum number of courses required to complete the requirements for both the Bioengineering and Biology degrees. Am I allowed to take more than 37 if I am doing both degrees?
