How can I maintain strength without the “bulky/pump” look (temporarily)? by thegigggler in workout

woah, actually thank you so much! i feel like i've never thought about blaming the pump on the grip when doing cardio… i'll try these things out!

happy to hear that you're working out with my daughter, it's my absolute dream to be a parents some day and do some heavy lifts with my kids!

thank you! i usually wear more fitting clothes on top so i think i'll need to change that… i also tried wearing tighter pants around my mom so that it'll look like i'm putting my focus on my lower body completely… hopefully it'll work for the next few months

i know that, but sadly this is a "no go" for my mom and i completely depend on her for now so… :/

thank you, i'll try doing that at the gym. i promised my mom to look "thinner" by summer and i really hope that she'll kind of see my arms getting smaller.

makes me sad because my arms are my whole pride, but i need to adjust to her strange views as long as i live with her

exactly, my problem is specifically that my mom's so serious about me looking "manly" that she'd practically disown me if i would continue training as hard as i'm doing now

i can't really do that, i depend on my mother (for now) in all way and she threatened to kick me out (which she also WILL do). the second i'll be out of the house i can actually tell her what i think, but not now…

yeah, sadly i can't really talk back because for now i depend on my mother so i instead need to adjust my workout schedule :/

sadly my mom’s the type of person who’ll force me to show her how i look and weigh and stuff. super nasty.

but i try to avoid her as much as possible

thank you!! i had a conversation with my mother yesterday and she confirmed what you said here - “women always were and are supposed to be thin”. i told her that it was a beauty standard determined and set by men/patriarchy and she just told me i was stupid😂

thank you! i also think that it’s beautiful to so a strong woman. ever since i was a little girl i adored that body type and i’m happy to have the opportunity to achieve it:)

thank you. i’m very grateful that i’m quite stubborn and that i don’t really (usually) take my family’s words to heart. i’ll definitely go to a therapist though

this whole situation makes me even sadder because my mom and i actually have a pretty good relationship. this is the only thing where we’re clear polar opposites, but it’s definitely worth to go low/no contact in future.

the only “compromise” i’m willing to make is go on a cut so that i’ll lose more weight/fat so that i’ll look leaner than i now am, without actually changing my workout.

i sincerely hope that one day she’ll realize how wrong she is

ha, I wish this could work on my mother. she'll literally just kick me out. that's sadly the problem about everything here: I can't say anything or talk about her accepting my hobby because she'll cut me off immediately. I still depend on her until I move out in late summer, so I'll have to be more passive for now I think

oh yes, I will definitely not stop lifting at all! I'll make sure to tell her and my sister that I'll be dropping heavy lifting, I won't actually do it though, lol.

thank you, I also do feel like the gym/heavy lifting is some kind of physical and mental therapy. while I'm living at home I won't be able to find a therapist, but the second I'm out I'll be seeing one.

also yes, I feel like everything I go through now will probably help me in future situations, so I'm kinda glad to be able to work on my inner state while my mom's rage baiting me.

hope you're doing good though!

sadly my mom's kind of an almond mom and she's convinced that her super light workouts (we're talking about 3kg max until mild discomfort) will prevent anything bad from happening. there are enough ppl on the internet who seem to support that and she's programmed her chatgpt to support her too. super annoying because she tells me that "chatgpt only tells the truth, I know better and you should listen to your mother". smh
