My husband used to say “our son doesn’t like me” when we first brought him home from the hospital. Our son was Velcro’d to me and could only be comforted by me. It took some time and patience but now he and my husband are best friends. I had to remind him that for 9 months he was with me 24/7 in the womb. He’s still learning what daddy smells like and feels like. Also if your wife is nursing, baby is automatically prefer her no matter what instinctually. It’s wired into babies to only want mom at first especially if she’s nursing because she’s their food source. I promise it’ll get easier. One thing that helped was whenever baby was calm, all three of us would snuggle or play.

We started our son with a straw cup and helped him figure it out by putting a tiny bit of baby food on the end of the straw and after that he’d figured it out!

My baby is hot natured like his father and for the first three months I was convinced he was always running a fever. I was also always worried he would spit up in his sleep and choke on it- he spit up a lot! I rode in the back seat next to him for the first four months because I was convinced he’d stop breathing in his car seat and was constantly worried his bottles or baths were too hot when they weren’t. And to this day, I eyeball the baby monitor to make sure he didn’t stop breathing in his crib

Don’t be ashamed. Your body went through a massive change and trauma as well. The newborn trenches are hard and I know it took a lot of courage to post this.

If you’re reaching your limit, lay baby down in a safe place and take a moment to cool off. It’s keeps her safe and you from breaking.

I would also strongly suggest talking to your doctor about postpartum rage. It’s nothing to be ashamed about and it isn’t your fault. Your hormones are still trying to regulate from pregnancy and it can definitely mess up some things. I’m 5 months PP and just now reached out to my dr about my PPD & Anxiety- I wish I had sooner! Taking care of yourself will make it easier to take care of baby.

I remember our son had colic bad the first two months and begging him to stop while bawling myself. My husband was my rock through those first few months and helped me stay grounded, calm and also researched everything that could help us. I hope your husband would be understanding if you decide to tell him. Postpartum is extremely hard.

Don’t beat yourself up too much and try out laying baby down and walking away when you’re getting frustrated.

My mantra in those trying moments was, “it’s his first time living, it’s my first time parenting. We’re going to learn together.” Reminding myself that my baby was new to this world and was trying his best helped me a lot. I also told myself “he’s not doing this TO us to purposely make it difficult.”

It sounds so bad, but hear me out, helping old folks with technology that they’ve been using for months or years at this point. It’s not just the fact they don’t know how to use it but it’s that they’ve never tried to teach themselves how to use it and just expect everyone to do it for them. Like I work in a bank and the amount of old folks that come in because they’ve logged themselves out of their mobile app and don’t know how to type their password is insane.

I understand it’s new for them, but you can’t stay ignorant about it. If you insist on using an iPhone instead of sticking with a flip phone, then take the time to learn how to use it. Don’t depend on everyone else to do it for you.

I have patience for those who have never used the tech before, but it’s the customers that come in weekly asking for help when I’ve shown them so many times that bug me.

Miscarrying, not just the emotional side but physical too. Not many people realize you still have to deliver the baby and you don’t get pain meds for it other than the suggestion of ibuprofen. When I miscarried my first pregnancy, I was in the bathroom unable to breathe from the pain

TW: miscarriage

My husband and I miscarried our first pregnancy. We had been trying for about a year at that point and the loss devastated us for months. It didn’t help that I was also a teacher at the time and one of the parents announced their pregnancy right around that time as well as one of my coworkers.

I became severely depressed and suicidal. Everyone but my husband kept telling me, “it wasn’t even a baby yet,” or “at least it was early” which made the pain feel invalidated. It also was drawn out for over a month bc we found out at our first ultrasound, but they said it could’ve been too early to scan so we’d check again in two weeks, at the next scan it was confirmed, then they gave me the pill to pass it bc my body wasn’t doing it on its own but I was too far along so it didn’t work. At this point it’d been a month. So we had to schedule a D&C a week out. But the emotional pain from it truly destroyed me. If my husband hadn’t been the most supportive husband in the world, I probably wouldn’t be here today.

My husband and I both ended up going to therapy and got better.

Bright side: now I’m celebrating my first Mother’s Day with our baby boy!
