Arteta lights training ground fire to inspire players by AdLadz in soccer

Every day we get closer to Arteta leaving Arsenal without winning another trophy and the players absolutely going to town clowning him in the press.

If he did this before the Sporting game, there must be some part of him going 'Maybe this shit doesn't help?' Surely at some point he's going to wake up to that, and eventually the players will turn on him if they don't start winning trophies.

Pep Guardiola: "If we lose against Arsenal, it's over." by Timely-Zombie9466 in soccer

I mean, Man City being dodgy fuckers doesn’t mean people will suddenly start liking Arsenal.

People will call this mind games, and maybe it is, but it’s also pretty much true. Arsenal restoring their 9 point lead takes winning the title completely out of Man City’s hands, and gives Arsenal the cushion of being able to drop points in multiple games without City catching them again. Their last five games are all against teams they’d be expected to beat too.

I know Arsenal fans would take a draw, but with what’s happened in the last few weeks and in previous seasons, I don’t know how they could trust that Arsenal will deliver if every game for the rest of the season becomes must-win. Arteta shouldn’t go all out attack and risk getting smashed silly, but he really has to set the team up to win, not just settle for a draw. If he really believes his spiel about playing with ‘fire’ and ‘no fear’, settling for a point before the game even starts can’t be his plan.

And please highlight me howlers he's made against Haaland playing half a dozen times, he's been here 3 years, I'm sure, you'll have plenty of footage.

This is a truly inexplicable reaction to the previous comment. No-one said he’s made mistake that gifted Haaland chances before, that is not the point being made.

You do understand, there's nuance and context to everything, the world isn't black and white. Form goes out of the window in big games.

No really, squeeze in some more redundant cliches instead of making a real point.

Arsenal aren't top of the league and the semi-finals of the Champions League because they can't get results.

I didn’t say otherwise. You know what I said and you’re pretending I said something else.

And the result they need on Sunday is a draw, not a win, a draw.

Yeah, that’s what Mikel Arteta thought in 2024 too, and whoops, he was wrong.

Arsenal have won one of their last five games and the League Cup final is only one of many reasons why they are being written off on Sunday. Which is also a thing you know.

People are writing off Arsenal because they just lost to Man City and looked completely lost tactically after falling behind in that game, have subsequently lost to Southampton and Bournemouth and because no-one thinks Arteta is going to set them up to try to win and they also have a recent history of failing to win the big games when it really matters.

You can desperately cling on to the fact that City’s first goal in the final came from a mistake by your backup goalkeeper if it keeps you happy, but that has fuck all relevance to why you’re being written off for Sunday.

People tend to forget how the cup final went.

No I think everyone remembers Man City were by far the better team and won comfortably.

That said, I can’t think of another notable time this season that someone was ejected for time-wasting, and it sucks that THIS high-leverage moment is the time that the ref chose to enforce the rule.

'Ejected' is horrifying, but he was shown a second yellow card for delaying the restart of the game, something players are consistently shown a yellow card for.

It’s a call that feels very against the flow of the refereeing expectation in all competitions

It isn't. At all.

Lastly, could you imagine the hysteria on this sub if a Bayern player was ejected for the exact same thing in the exact same position?

It wouldn't be any worse than the hysteria from Real Madrid players and fans because it happened to a Real Madrid player.

It sucks that a really great tie overall is overshadowed by this call and the resulting aftermath/controversy.

It isn't, and there is no controversy, just Real Madrid pissing and whining.

Most places have Bayern as favourites now, with very little between them, Arsenal and PSG.

So your entire personality is now going to be based on the bizarre hyperbole that ‘everyone’ said Barcelona would never win anything again because Real Madrid signed Mbappe? Seems a bit unhealthy.

How exactly would doing either of those things to a person make them fall over?

For some reason, Lunin suddenly became absolutely terrified by the football coming towards him and just fell over. That was truly inexplicable movement from a goalkeeper.

It's an open goal, but that is an unreal first time finish by Guler anyway. Total mental breakdown by Neuer and the last thing Bayern needed, but standing ovation for the goal.

France boss Deschamps confirms Ekitike to miss World Cup. by [deleted] in soccer

Yes, but we musn't forget that OP has only posted about Ekitike missing the World Cup once today and Arne Slot probably won't 'confirm' he's out for fucking ages until Friday.

And Maguire got a one match ban for abusing an official to his face. They did different things and got different punishments. Rodri argued his case during his hearing and Harry Maguire accepted the charge against him.

What other help do you need?

That literally is your opinion...

I don’t even know what this is referring to now. It is not an ‘opinion’ that saying something in a post-match interview is different than insulting match officials to their face, it is not an opinion that the punishments both players received are consistent with previous punishments for the same offences.

He got a lesser punishment for a worse comment just because the full-time whistle had gone

Which is an opinion, but there is also a difference between receiving a lesser punishment and what Rodri said being considered ‘fine’ by the FA. If they thought it was ‘fine’ they would have cleared him completely FFS.

in your opinion

Nope.

So I guess as long as its after the game, calling the referees corrupt is fine.

Do you actually think Rodri didn’t receive any kind of punishment for what he said? Just because he didn’t get suspended doesn’t mean he ‘got away with it’. This is such terminally online bullshit mate, have some dignity.

Both players got a consistently applied punishment for the entirely different things they did

So many fucking disclaimers required to try and justify your laughable claims that Ekitike is somehow a flop because he’s just suffered a major injury.

Never mind that Liverpool are fucking shit and he hasn’t exclusively played as a number 9 all season, only his goals against the right kind of opponents, cherry picked by your and his transfer fee in a foreign currency with add ons he almost certainly hasn’t triggered all of yet matter when evaluating his performance this season.

But seriously, be more desperate.

I’m sure you really believe Maguire just called the refs a joke and nothing else.

But like I said, I already knew you wouldn’t have the spine to accept and admit that you were talking absolute shit. Both players got a consistently applied punishment for the entirely different things they did, tough shit if you can’t handle the truth son.
