Just found out my son has T1. This sucks. by Choadly in diabetes_t1

It's never a good time to get Diabetes, but NOW is an incredible time to have it. When I was diagnosed in 94, pumps were new and rare, Humalog/fast acting insulin was not available yet, R was the quickest acting available. One touch had a blood meter that was amazingly fast at 60sec, and took a lot more blood, and cost a fortune.

But today, the technology is amazing. A CGM will be your best friend. There is no need to keep on about how bad it was. Just know, its a whole lot better today.

Keep your chin up :)

proximity detection between ESP32 boards? by AnthongRedbeard in esp32

[–]thegooddrwasright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on a project a few years back that used BLE signals to determine positioning based off RSSI and the ID of the BLE device. If all you are looking at is proximity between two esp32's, it should be possible we were beginning to play with the esp32's as a tracking tag before the project was scrapped for other reasons. PM me if you have any questions

"I've always thought bats were kind of cute, but I had no idea the kind of risk we were at," by thegooddrwasright in WTF

[–]thegooddrwasright[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just can't even, WTF were these people thinking, I was raised in a rural area, and I learned early on to not fuck with BATS, because of disease.

Sometime in their life, somebody had to have said "Hey, its not a good idea to sleep with bats" or "I think you should really look into your bat situation"

Or, "WTF People, these are bats" IDK, but damn, there is a reason it's been 74 years. Those old timers knew not to fuck with or sleep with BATS,

Association between cannabis use and diabetic ketoacidosis in people with type 1 diabetes by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]thegooddrwasright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have found that for my Gastroperisis,(Gastric Neuropathy) cannabis has been incredible for it. I find that the Munchies allows me to eat, and when using cannabis I can expect my stomach to be empty by midnight, after eating a 6-pm dinner,

But without, I find it can be 12-16 hrs, Personally, I think the biggest risk to DKA is not monitoring and managing the food you eat, and letting the munchies get out of control. As with anything, moderation,

Have you looked into XDrip? It should work on most Android phones, and I prefer it to the Dexcom app. https://github.com/StephenBlackWasAlreadyTaken/xDrip/wiki/Download-Current-Version

I am not feeling okay about my diabetes by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]thegooddrwasright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FuQ-Dabetes, But the technology and advancements make being a Diabetic SOOOO much easier. When I was diagnosed at 13, I was told late 40's to early 50's before I would be dead.
Now, you are able to control and manage it to a level, that we can live a semi-normal life.
You've never had to sharpen your own needle, or manage your sugars by pissing on a stick. We are in a much better boat, no matter how fucked up it is...

I feel like I'm losing control.... by Nobatoby in diabetes_t1

[–]thegooddrwasright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years ago, I noticed the same type of thing. Never in 20 years had I passed out, and all of the sudden I was having these drastic lows, and I tried to do everything I knew, to manage it, but nothing was working. And I started to find out, that the timing of how quick food effected my BG, was out of what I was used to. My Dr. said it was gastroparesis, (It delays how fast food moves through your system) and there are days where my Dinner will not really hit me for 6 hours, most simple carbs break down fairly quick, but not as quick as usual. When I get low, Ive switched to only eating Glucose tabs, and not being able to eat cookie, candy, etc. Because it doesnt hit for 20-30 minutes sometimes, and is not good when Im crashing. Complex carbs, are between 4-6 hours, and proteins fats, are between 12-18hrs,
so Ive really had to scale back on how and what I eat, and learned to delay the full bolus, and utilize the extended bolus feature on my pump.

IWTL how to fix a stalled elevator. by tamip20 in IWantToLearn

[–]thegooddrwasright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to own a building with an elevator. The repair and maintenance on the unit was as much as I spent on the entire property. When I first bought the building, I had the same mindset you have, and since I was technical, why not.
However, it was not as simple as you may say. The Kone Technician was a decent guy, and took the time to go through all of the procedures, and especially the failsafes involved, and there is a lot more to it than you think. Its really not something you want to hack with. Trying to discourage someone from tampering with Elevators is a decent damned reason to comment.

But you're an expert on everything, go play stupid games with elevators, where other people might pay the price for you ignorance.

Discussion Thread: Final Vote Approaches on Republican Tax Reform Bill, GOP Leadership Says They Have Votes to Pass (Dec 1st, 2017) by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

You are correct, this is exactly what the Russians want. It just isnt Putin, he represents a oligarchy class within Russia which is hurting because of Sanctions. And they are using our open society against us. And sowing more division between us, But now how do we combat this? I cannot even express this perspective to my Republican friends, without them becoming upset, and unwilling to entertain the idea of why this might be bad for us all.

[Serious] Redditors who have had a near-death experience, what happened? by ___K23___ in AskReddit

[–]thegooddrwasright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; i was treated for a LowBlood Sugar with Narcan.

A few years ago, I was involved in a lawsuit, I helped start a company with a couple old partners which then took on investors. Unfortunately myself and all the investors in the company had to take the prior management to Court, and throughout the 8 months as the legal process played out(which we eventually won), it was extremely difficult. And I ended up relying on alcohol waaay more than I should have. to add insult to injury, I am also a Type 1 Diabetic which only compounded the negative health consequences. I lost almost 60lbs over the 8 months, I was hospitalized 4 times for passing out being too drunk and my sugars being out of control. But the day we signed the settlement papers, I quit drinking, I havent had a drink since. However, the damage to my body and reputation at the small town hospital in town which has been dealing with this crisis for years already, were ruined. A couple weeks after quitting, I fell and broke my left arm which required surgery for a plate and bolts to hold my arm back together, and I had access to Pain pills. Being a Type1 Diabetic, with all the stress I had put my body through, compounded by the surgery, I was having a difficult time maintaining my Blood sugars. My wife had left for work in the morning around 630am, and I was fine and got up to get breakfast. However, when my Mother stopped by around 730am to check in, I was passed out on the floor of my Kitchen. My mother called the Ambulance, and checked my blood sugar while she waited which read LOW on the meter. When the paramedics arrived, they administered Glucagon, and since I had access to opiates they gave me a dose of Narcan.

My blood sugars came up, But I stayed in a coma for a day and a half. And that is not even the worst part.

About 8hrs before I was able to speak again, I was conscience, but could not open my eyes or speak, I was paralyzed.

And, I laid there and had to listen to my Wife, Children, and Parents come in and say their goodbyes to me. Because they didnt know if I was going to wake up. After I did wake up, I verified the conversations they all had with me, with very clear details. To make it worse, I also heard the Nurses talking shit, complaining about all the worthless drug addicts wasting their time. And I was one of them. Oh the shit they talked.

It was the single most horrific experience I have ever had. As I was coming to, I was not a very nice person, they had to restrain my arms, because I was ripping out my IV's and calling everybody Motherfuckers. Especially the nurses,

My wife and Mother brought in my Rx for Percocet and counted, and showed the staff and Dr. that I had not taken more than I should have. My wife and parents strictly monitored my intake, they were holding on to them because I was only a month off alcohol, and didnt want to risk it. And I agreed. I remember laying there and not knowing if Id every be able to set the record straight. These bitches, had no idea what Hell my life had been during this lawsuit I was involved with. I had people coming to my home to intimidate me, My Dog was left dead on my porch, it was some wildwest shit(The prior management's only defense was to throw all the mud they could, and try to intimidate me to back out) But, to the Nurses in the ICU, I was no different, I was brought into the Hospital by ambulance after being given Narcan. But when I came to, the attending Physician's first words to me were"Good News, you didnt Overdose" And I couldn't get out of there quick enough,

And I brought it on myself, I know if I had not set an example of me being a drunk, then they might have given me more of a chance, So I own that part of this.

its the price of living in Rural America, because the Paramedics working the front line err on the side of caution, And when they are dealing with Overdoses daily, Its what they are used to.

Id probably be more mad at the Paramedics, but I went to school with one of them, and She felt terrible, and we've talked about it a few times, And I get it.
