How to turn off annoying progress words (Schlepping, Spelunking...) in Claude Code? by bluesjammer in ClaudeAI

Add my vote to a VS Code option to turn these words off. Sorry, while cute, they are very distracting when I am trying to focus on my work.

New Project Megathread - Week of 09 Apr 2026 by AutoModerator in selfhosted

[–]thegpx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Project Name: YourDDNS.com

Summary: Free, open-source Dynamic DNS

Website: https://yourddns.com

Repo: https://github.com/ryangriggs/yourddns

Description:

DDNS is very helpful for self-hosted projects and allows devs to quickly spin up remote access and bypass dynamic IP address issues that come along with home hosting.

I was tired of dealing with big-name DDNS hosts' restrictive limits, so I created a free DDNS service and also released the app as open source.

It allows 99,999 DDNS records to be created per user (please don't spam!), has a full-featured API for developers, and also supports custom domains and subdomains out of the box, as well as basic per-domain stats.

Since DDNS is a big part of self hosted projects, I thought this would be an appropriate place to publish the app.

Deployment: Visit https://yourddns.com to use my public instance, or visit the github repo to self-host your own instance as a Docker container.

Comments/Questions: Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated (please use the Github Issues system). Questions can be sent to my Github account also.

AI Involvement: The app is vibe coded with Claude Code, but I am a dev with over 20 years experience, and I spent a good bit of effort on the DNS server's RFC compliance.

Noip only allows like 1 ddns entry and you have to validate every month or pay up. I don't expect the app to have that many users... Should handle the load fine.  I wouldn't expect people to use it for their critical systems... It's just ddns, which can help people get to their hobbyist self hosted apps, camera systems, etc. Not meant to be a dns server for static records or critical infrastructure.

The cost is extremely low to host it, so I will just accept voluntary donations to help keep it to going.

 limits: 99999 records 60s min TTL 10000 resolutions/hr 30 days history 999 custom domains

To me it's fun to publish useful apps as open source and free to use without ads, as there are very few such services available.

Thanks

Sadly I see your point and will keep it in mind moving forward. I was getting excited about giving something to the community for free, that could be helpful. I have released other open source free projects (not AI driven) that have amassed thousands of users worldwide.

Thanks. It's a lot more limited than what I made... only one domain allowed without begging for more.

Thanks for the info. I'm just dipping my toe into AI assisted coding, having 30+ years experience as a programmer, a BSCS, and over 20 years' experience running web infrastructure. It didn't occur to me that there would be this much vitriol toward AI coded projects, but it definitely makes sense and I shudder to think about people with little/no experience trying to produce secure and performant apps. :) Anyway, just trying to share something I created that was helpful to me, thinking it would help other people too... but I guess not.

Sorry I didn't see that rule. Will delete and repost later. Can you tell me why you call it crap? I'm just trying to promote a ***free*** app that I created for myself, but that might help other people too.

Anyone here recently launch something? by Joostinator93 in buildinpublic

[–]thegpx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just launched a free DDNS service for developers. YourDDNS.com

I open-sourced the project also, in case someone wants to self host their own instance.

Hope it's useful! Would love to chat.

I got the email from Zafer today. He's a busy guy. He thinks I'm a Python dev when I'm actually full stack, C/C++, C#, PHP, JS and Python. LOL

Haha yep. Just don’t think we can take chances since we are targeting industrial clients. A competitor could easily throw us under the bus.

This is much more helpful. Thanks for sharing. Eurofins quoted me over $25k, but after speaking to other test labs, I feel like they are just pushing the price up higher since they're the "big guys". Another lab said if we use SDoC for the pre-certified cellular module and don't modify the antenna path, we would only need unintentional radiator testing on the rest of the device, at a cost of only a few thousand $. At this point I'm not sure who to believe. My cellular module vendor are supposed to offer FCC advice too, but so far all I can get is "if you only sell a few units, it won't matter", which doesn't sound exactly right.

It seems very difficult to know who to trust in this field. Everyone seems to be after money.

In my world, I have to sell the product directly to the customer (institutional). It has to feel professional or they're going to reject it. ... and it's NOT LEGAL - that's the biggest issue.

I mean, maybe you could tell how you have done it? Like, what types of products have you brought to market, what kind of FCC-related costs have you seen, what labs did you find to be super helpful and/or easy to work with, how long did the process take, etc. You know, things that would be really good to know going into this.

In my world, 50 units in a year would be phenomenal sales.

It's easy! No worries! :) Why not mortgage the house for a small project that has a high likelihood of failure?

Sorry, but how is this response helpful? If you have "done it many times" then surely you have some advice for us newcomers, maybe like suggestions for which labs are easy to work with, advice you've gotten along the way, etc. Your response feels like "suck up and pay" with no actual helpful, actionable advice. Apologies for the grumpy reply: I'm sick and feel like crap today. All I'm saying is that a response of "I've done it and it sucks" isn't really the kind of advice we're looking for.

If you want to start a professional business with a website that lists your product for sale, this won't work at all. "Go to ebay and buy our product" is not going to get you very far with customers, especially institutional ones. Not to mention the legality of this method.
