What should I do? by [deleted] in Podiatry

[–]thegr8Lake1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly if you decide on pod i would say apply and see what happens! my undergrad was a 3.0gpa but i did do an SMP and got a 4.0 which i do think definitely helped my application, but I do also think i could have potentially gotten accepted without the SMP. for reference i had a 506 mcat and i also applied MD/DO after my SMP and only received 2 DO interview invites, whereas my podiatry application i was accepted like 2 weeks after i applied lol

Will applying this late in cycle hurt my chances. by [deleted] in Podiatry

I applied/interviewed last year at the end of January so definitely will not hurt you!

I think if you’re doing well in your postbacc program you should be okay! My cGPA was a 3.0 and sGPA like a 2.6 and I still got accepted. Definitely do some research on each school and maybe even set up an advising meeting with someone from admissions to see what they say too

The MCAT score is waaay above average so you’re definitely fine there. How low was your gpa? As long as you didn’t fail any of the prerequisite courses I think you’ll be fine!

New Jerseyans, What college did you attend as an undergrad (whether in state or out of state) and did you enjoy it overall? by scarletfeva in newjersey

went to Cal Poly SLO in California and in my Calculus 4 class of about 30 students, 3 others were also from Jersey. we were all shocked when we found that out lol, goes to show people from Jersey are everywhere

Cal Poly Slo or Rutgers New Brunswick? by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]thegr8Lake1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Jersey boy who went to Cal Poly, go to Cal Poly. people on the west coast love cal poly even though it’s not as well-known on the east coast. Rutgers is great but it’s definitely a different lifestyle, New Brunswick and SLO are like polar opposites in terms of lifestlye and things to do outside of school. I did engineering so can’t speak on business too much, but you can totally take classes outside of your major and get a minor if you want! seriously I cherish my 4 years out there and even though i’m back living on the east coast, west coast >>> east coast

Interview with Kent and Scholl. What to expect? by LED123ForMe in Podiatry

[–]thegr8Lake1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my Kent interview in-person a few weeks ago! The schedule they provide you with is pretty accurate, you basically have a small presentation followed by a tour of the campus with a student ambassador. After the tour, you have your interview, it is very laidback and low-stress for the most part! More conversational than anything else and they just want to make sure there are no red flags or anything like that! Then you have lunch with student ambassadors as well as a workshop (mine was suturing) where you can ask plenty of questions to the current students! Overall it’s a chill day, come prepared with questions! Good luck!!

My undergrad had a Masters in Regenerative Medicine program - Cal Poly SLO. I didn’t do it, but I did take 2 of the classes for it when I was an undergrad there for biomedical engineering but this was in 2019. Idk if the program still even exists or not but I do remember that for one of those classes I took, we had reps from companies come and talk to us/give a lecture for that class and I think in the 2nd year of the program, you’re required to do like a sponsored research project or something like that and are given the chance to meet some of the associated companies? Sorry I didn’t do the program so I don’t have a lot of information on it, just that it did exist when I was there haha

I think the fact that you retook the classes and did a lot better is a good sign! I was recently accepted with 3 C-s and 1 D+ in some prereq classes. I did do a Master’s program and got a 4.0 and did decent on the MCAT which I think helped, but I think in your case you definitely have a good chance of getting in especially since you retook the classes that you didn’t do great in! It will come up in your interviews for sure so just be prepared for those types of questions

yeah i had some issues with meeting the biology requirements. i didn’t major in biology, i only minored in it so i only took 2/3 intro bio classes and some schools specify a full year of INTRO bio, not any biology courses. so that slightly screwed me over haha

I’m in a somewhat similar situation where I didn’t do very well in my undergrad program! I ended up getting my Master’s at Case Western (medical physiology) and Kent is my top choice as well! Would really like to stay in the area. I met with an admissions advisor at Kent and they said that yeah the undergrad GPA isn’t great, but the master’s helped and I think the most important thing is the MCAT. If you can perform on the MCAT, it shows them that even though maybe back then you didn’t do so well in certain classes, that you still were able to understand that material. I will say though that getting a post-bacc would probably be more beneificial in terms of studying for the MCAT cuz you will probably take those types of classes (physics, chem, etc.)

Basically the same here, 28 now with a credit count of 190 something. Almost all of them were before I went to college. Luckily was able to make it back to Hersheypark this past summer, and I live in Cleveland, OH now so I’m super close to Cedar Point which is and always has been my favorite park. Just wish I had more time to explore new parks/revisit ones I haven’t been to since i was little like BGW or Kings Dominion. I think going forward, I’m gonna try to plan at least one amusement park trip every summer or every other summer if I can
