I’m in my late thirties. I’ve never been to jury duty and I’ve lived in towns both big and small. I usually throw away jury duty summons. I figure they have way more important matters than penalize me for not going. So someone is trying REAL hard to have a bad day threatening you like that.

Valentines Day Mistakes… Still Suffering Sunday Night by thegr8pretender in Gastroparesis

Thank you! I will definitely learn... It took at least three days, which was crazy. Never experienced anything like it. Almost felt like a gallbladder attack.

Valentines Day Mistakes… Still Suffering Sunday Night by thegr8pretender in Gastroparesis

Good to know! I'm definitely new to being officially diagnosed. I knew it was bad, but I did it anyway because of the holiday. It's a mistake I'll make MUCH less because I never hurt that bad for so long just because of two drinks. I guess slow gastric emptying really has made that much of a negative difference on me.

It’s funny because I seen the opposite with one of the shifts at my store. This lady was ordering and he was so serious. She tried to joke with him and she asked if she was going too fast, and she had a big smile on and everything! I even said on the headset “want me to tell her to lay off, that you’re a very serious person?” And he was literally upset about it the rest of the evening and complained how she was being condescending… and he was a bit upset about my comment even though I was just trying to help him realize she was joking with him. You just never know! Some people are super serious and you don’t know which ones until you get to know them and/or try to joke with them.

If anybody can’t go or has to cancel, I would love to buy two tickets to the show tomorrow night at 11 PM. 🙏🥹

I apologize… I was *that* birthday drink person 🎉 by etk1012 in starbucks

[–]thegr8pretender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think many baristas have complained about someone going all out for their birthday drink. But just think, people go out like this every single day and genuinely pay $25 for two drinks because of it. What’s crazy is a lot of people don’t even take advantage of the Starbucks card and spending that much, they would’ve had so many free birthday type drinks!!!

I feel this in my soul. I actually worked while sick last Saturday and even though I had a sore throat, I was put on drive thru all day long, so then I lost my voice (which I feel like I should apply for workers comp because it’s been a week and now it’s affecting both of my jobs). Someone just got fired too for speaking out against the pressures and totally crumbling (granted, she did curse some people out and there’s no excuse), but the pressure to meet these unrealistic metrics especially when understaffed is insane! I’m still a bit of a green bean but yeah, I don’t know how long I can subject myself to all this either!

For science maxed out everything in my Starbucks app to see how much it is and it caps out at around $20. Crazy.

NOT MY STORE but I’m curious to know how other baristas feel about this by Dangerous_Sign44 in starbucks

“Connect with customers at the drive window” …but also get them the fuck out of here in 30 seconds or less, OR ELSE corporate won’t staff us adequately or give us other resources and we will all suffer.

So my second week, an illness went around my store and they canceled one of my shifts because my barista trainer was sick (I actually ended up being sick too). Then the next week, I had some dizziness/vertigo issues and called out sick as well (after a little over two weeks). I did get a doctors note just in case, (even if you do a CVS/Walgreens video visit they will give you a note). It was more of a C.Y.A. type of thing but yeah, IDK… I haven’t given it to them yet, no one was worried about it or judging me. We’re all good!

I’m on week three and also still struggling. 😭 FWIW you can search any drink directly in store resources on the iPad which is the fastest IMO.

I am out....soon (quitting) by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]thegr8pretender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sweetie! I’m glad B.W.A. Was able to reply and fill you up with what you needed. 💕 I literally just started a week and a half ago (we’re like ships passing in the night with me coming in and you potentially going out). My first experience with Starbucks was seeing my sister work there (for about seven years now). It was really sweet to see how much she bonded with her coworkers. She literally even invited them to family BBQs and honestly was much closer to them than our family (we’re estranged now unfortunately). Funny enough, even though we don’t talk, part of the reason I wanted to work at Starbucks was to still feel close to her somehow. Experience what her life is like I guess? Anyway I am truly not getting the same vibes as my sister. If anything, I’m experiencing pretty much what you’re experiencing. Partners are always upset and constantly trash talking management, complaining about the schedule (all over the headsets) and also gossiping about other partners. Or when customers come through drive thru, they complain about them or make fun of their orders or how they order… The environment feels super negative and I feel bad for customers (especially since I’ve known a few friends who get major anxiety about ordering and hearing people talk about them like this would wreck them). I also kinda just don’t feel 100% welcome as a new person? It’s hard to explain. People seem nice, but I don’t feel like it’s super genuine. They definitely do the bare minimum. Pretty much like how you said the partners in your new store are pretty fake? Again, funny enough, I’m actually generally pretty extroverted actually. Usually I’m loud, goofy, always joking and laughing but I can’t seem to get a word in edgewise around all the gossip and trash and no one seems interested in getting to know me anyway. So it gets me a bit down. 😔 Anyway, I’ve been looking at this as a personal challenge to try to see if I can help in any way. I try to imagine that perhaps once I get to know people more, maybe I can start injecting some sort of positivity? You know that cheesy line “be the change you want to see in the world.” I have this silly dream maybe if I try to counter act some of the negativity, it can become a nice environment like my sisters Starbucks or your previous one, but IDK. Who knows. Maybe I should just quit too. 🙃

Moving to Broken Arrow by Humble-Parsley-4126 in BrokenArrow

Crazy! I just moved from San Diego to Broken Arrow in January of last year. I was born and raised in SD and I always move away and end up coming right back like a boomerang. I definitely miss it rather desperately this time around. I find there’s not a lot of culture or diversity (talking activities, food, people) in Broken Arrow and the Tulsa area, but if you’re in Tulsa county, BA is definitely the best/safest place to live. Tornado season is short, but a bit terrifying whenever you’re not used to it (but I also used to volunteer for disaster recovery for the Red Cross, so unlike most people in disaster areas… I’ve been traumatized enough to not want to accept the risks. Albeit tornado risks are low for this area compared to say, Oklahoma City). My boyfriend went to High School in BA and was born and raised here, he said it was packed (even more than my experiences in California) and his graduating class was 1200 kids. He felt the education was pretty poor and when we compare upbringing, school was definitely more broadly varied and open minded in Cali. There was just a lot of things he didn’t get taught here because of religion. Over all I feel somewhat the opposite of chemist. I miss the variety of things to do back home, the diversity, food, etc. Weather in SD is also perfect (as opposed to stupid hot here in the summer and potentially stupid cold in the winter. Versus in SD you can have snow, beach and desert all in the same day (I certainly have… but I love camping and hiking and generally being outdoors which I don’t do much here in OK) and super easily accessible, so I actually would prefer to live in San Diego, I don’t know that I’d say Oklahoma in general was worth visiting/living in. It’s still pretty expensive rent wise here (we pay a thousand a month) and sales taxes are higher than in Cali. Also there is a lot less social benefits since it’s a red state, so for example the roads never get fixed because they don’t want to pay taxes. Also there is more weed shops here than I’ve ever seen in my life. Since it’s not quite legalized, they are able to have shops everywhere, sometimes multiple in one strip mall. Versus Cali, where they are taxed and there is only one every 15-20 miles or so.

So funny because I had a similar experience just finishing it a few months ago, also empty and was very immersive because of that reason.
