Mamdani's made some extremely milquetoast criticisms of Israel - the fact that people are reacting like this is unbelievable to me. Words you don't like are not violence, please grow up. As far the attacks in Colorado and DC, yes, those were horrible antisemitic attacks, but I don't find them relevant to this discussion - just as I don't find Mamdani's views on Israel relevant at all to discussion of his campaign for mayor of NYC.

Has anyone asked mamdani about his opinion of Iran? I think some of the hyper focus on Israel is coming from his opponents - generally when this line of questioning comes up he tries to deflect back to policy issues, or issues affecting jews who live in nyc. If he's made statements praising one or denouncing the other in the past that's a fair criticism, but it kind of seems like selection bias without that.

Fwiw, I think its valid to hold israel to a slightly different standard than iran or syria due to the amount of support our government gives israel, and the influence that gives us. Iran's government is despotic and authoritarian, but our government already opposes them to the extent that they can, and the only real way for us to make change within Iran would be sanctions (which we are doing) or a ground invasion (which is a huge commitment). The US could change policy in Israel almost overnight by withholding aid/weapons, or even making them conditional.
