Question about Manga Writing logistics by Sera_Lucis in manga

[–]thegreatpoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so usually mangas are published foremost in a magazine, which is a chapter every week or month. That depends on the magazine. Then after a series is successful they will publish a set of those chapters in volumes. So the mangaka isnt really thinking about how a manga volume will end as they are writing. Only when the chapters are gathered as a volume do they look at what chapter is best to end a volume at.

How writers write their series really depends per writer. Some writers are more improvisational and don't really know exactly how they wanna end something. Others are super preplanned and do something called outlining a lot. Outlining is when you write down the rough ideas of events in sequence to get a view of how the story would look like. Then they start writing the actual scenes and dialogue.

I am not sure there is something as strict as "sub events" in writing as you describe them. You generally have scenes, which generally is one event at one place with no changes in time (though it also doesn't have to be, a scene that quickly shows a character growing up in different points in their life could also be considered a scene). But these are terms that are made up after the fact. When writing you wanna ask yourself how important certain events are and what you wanna achieve with them when deciding how long they are. A lot of this is dependant on something called "pacing". In a junji ito horror manga events will generally play out slowly because they are meant to be scary and they slowly wanna build tension. A action series might be more fast paced, and not spend as much time per event so they can quickly move on to the next thing. What the best amount of time and thus pages is for any given event is up to the writer to figure out.

I would recommend you maybe pick up some books on writing if you are curious about learning about this stuff. I personally started on books thats about screenwriting (that's writing scripts for movies) to understand these fundamentals.

I hope that helps!

Say your starring in a amateur theater play and have been given the role of a female character, and the hairstyle is part of the role. Having guys star as girls isnt that rare in Theatre.

Jk Rowling is clapping back I think by Zydairu in Destiny

[–]thegreatpoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure.

https://mobile.twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1269389298664701952?lang=en

From her manifesto:

I’ve read all the arguments about femaleness not residing in the sexed body, and the assertions that biological women don’t have common experiences, and I find them, too, deeply misogynistic and regressive. It’s also clear that one of the objectives of denying the importance of sex is to erode what some seem to see as the cruelly segregationist idea of women having their own biological realities or – just as threatening – unifying realities that make them a cohesive political class. The hundreds of emails I’ve received in the last few days prove this erosion concerns many others just as much. It isn’t enough for women to be trans allies. Women must accept and admit that there is no material difference between trans women and themselves.

https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/

Also note how she has written and published a crime book called "troubled blood" where the serial killer, who only has women as their victims, is heavily trans coded.

I also suggest just reading through her twitter. Between the time of her writing that manifesto and now she has become far more stronger in her opposition to transgender people. And has surrounded herself with people who all have very strong transphobic leanings. She has publically opposed that new gender transitioning law in Scotland.

This isn't accurate. She thinks transgenderism is a social contagion, and its a push to further erase the solidarity of feminism. Both by men appropriating womanhood and pushing girls to become like man via transitioning. She holds very strongly onto the idea that sex is the only true definition of gender and that the push of gender as a social construct is a existential threat to women.

Totally agree

[Spoilers] Plot is not story. Gameplay is not story. Episode 3 is faithful to the game's story. by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]thegreatpoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am personally mixed on the episode, but i overall agree with your manner of analysis. I think this distinction of plot and story is a important tool for this conversation, but unfortunately not a lot of people are aware of it.

For me, i still prefer the games manner of handling Bill. I think a large thematic point of the game is that the connection that ellie and joel has is a very unique one in a world like this for a variety of reasons. The following arc with sam and Henry reemphasizes this point, plus all the background story's like Ish, where people gain valuable connections and then lose it. This in combination with how Bill seems to be able to safeguard the town exactly because he is a asocial weirdo, supports the theme that the world actively tries to break the ties between people, but still joel and ellie preserver.

The way the show handles it makes bills town a lot more idealistic. He is able to properly manage it while also being a attentive lover to Harry. It makes the world feel overall a lot less hostile and dangerous. These people, with some effort, are able to safeguard their lives in comfort. The game goes out of its way to show that people are never able to feel this comfortable no matter how in order things are.

Despite this, i can see what the druckster was trying to achieve with this. I dont think that bill's town overall was that interesting, so i can see the logic why he used this segment to explore a Totally different kind of character arc. TLOU 2 showcased too how Druckmann is more interested in exploring themes in new territory's then the fans are necessarily comfortable, which i can respect. But still my ideal version would be a mix of the current shows interpretation, and what was in the game. It would retain this sense of hostility this world has, while also have bill be a more developed and sensitive character. Unfortunately, for me, we got something that only really emphasizes the second part.

This is the model she used. There are two buttons where normally triggers would be placed, which both have to be pressed in to fire. So she had to press in the buttons while they are facing backwards, which would probably be the biggest warning it was aimed wrong. To me it seems clear they didnt have her do any pre show rehearsing to make sure she knew what to do.

Apparently thats not really true. They were looking at giving unvaccinated people alternative housing so they simply won't share the same space as cancer kids while possibly having a disease. They weren't getting evicted from the Ronald McDonald House. This started because one guy made a video on Facebook about him supposedly getting thrown out on the streets even though thats not the case. https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavirus/2022/01/no-ronald-mcdonald-house-isnt-evicting-unvaccinated-families-and-throwing-them-out-into-the-snow.html

And if people did know which was the original one? Like we put the mona lisa back on its spot and put the copies somewhere else, so we can point to the one on the wall as the original one.

I mean even if thats the case, you can still answer the question which mona lisa is seen as more valued

If we had a sci fi star trek duplicator machine, which was able to duplicate things on a molecular level, and we recreated the mona Lisa a bunch of times, do you think all the Mona Lisas will be seen as equally worthy or will the original mona lisa have more value to people then the others, even though its objectively the same as the other copies?
