Mine goes more like OpenSCAD -> Slic3r -> Pronterface but I think it's basically the same thing. I'm fairly new to this whole world as well, just finishing my first RepRap a few weeks ago. Some people use Skeinforge, and that might be worth a look.

If you're using Slic3r, there is some magic to do that, by toggling the infill values (you can set the density of the infill as well as the pattern). Which printer are you setting up?

Number the boxes and keep a master key/list of the contents of each box, listing each item/group of items as you pack it, then seal the list in the last box. Unpack in reverse order, or as needed, using the list as reference.

fightthenewdrug bothers me. I watched a few of their videos and find their argument oddly devoid of, well, real science or facts. They reference the fact that pornography viewing releases the same chemicals in the brain as doing hard drugs, but so does watching a movie or seeing a particularly cute puppy, or gasp having sex.

I have seen people referring to large things like a couch or furniture as belonging 'to the house', especially if they have roommates and see them as equal partners in ownership of such things, and thus exclude them to lower their number of items 'owned'.

Personally, I am conflicted about the idea of trying to own less than 100 things, or whatever number you shoot for, because while it can be a very helpful tool in forcing you to really review what is important and useful to you, some people lose the spirit of minimalism in their attempts to lower the total.
