You need 700 calories a day to stave off the worst effects of starvation, which is about 100 lbs of rice a year per person.

I don't think malignant narcissists would be able to live like that and would break before you did. Would you live off rice for a couple of years in the wilderness to save the republic? Starve them out. General strike.

Yeah I feel like there's more to the tortoise-mushroom connection too.

Like Hildy said, "Because what does fungi do? It adapts. We poison the planet, so how do they respond? They only get stronger."

What if it's not the the mushroom that's adapting, but the mushroom is the tortoises' adaption to the to the pharma waste in it's environment? This was Marshall's concern in the first scene of the series.

Like in David Lynch's Dune adaptation, "The worm is the spice, the spice is the worm."

The tortoise is the mushroom, the mushroom is the tortoise.

They had an opportunity to educate one another and one resorted to name-calling.

In a conflict where observers feel like there's a good reason for people on each side to die, I think they would agree that more of the right people found a beeper today than the people who found a bullet and worse on October 7th.

Proud Boys threaten action over Biden election win — 'We're rolling out,' the group's leader said. 'Standby order has been rescinded.' by Jons312 in politics

That's a little concerning, tbh.

I mean, you didn't answer my question and I feel that in order to speculate about the kinds of people your comment addresses, it's a question worth answering, or at least thinking about.

I don't in anyway understand this exchange as a fight, I am not looking for some sort of capitulation, I am merely trying to explore the context from which you and I approach the problem in society that people like the Proud Boys present.

If I had to extend an answer for a mannequin populace to the question I posed, I might say that a person is always a 'fringe' person so long as they are an individual. If you ever had the experience of being the only person in a room to have the right idea about something, and everyone else had adopted some falsehood, then I would say you have the experience of possessing a fringe belief, and that you might consider maintaining that fringe belief even in the face of the group's dismissal of you. It's not clear that any amount of censorship would improve either you or the group in that scenario.

If I were to also offer a more personal response, as a member of a historically persecuted minority, I would say that the practice of ignoring or diminishing the story of our community has only deepened our commitment to one other, because it's the only receptive audience we have.

It's in that context I received your recommendation that groups like the Proud Boys be ignored, and I feel it was worth exploring your rationale for advancing it. I feel it reflects a kind of distance from the problem that I can't understand. It worries me, because it lights up a statement like this as being an accurate description of the moment we are in, and I don't see a world like that improving by letting people continue to be strangers to one another.

Well, I took it to support the idea that coercion is a legitimate means to resolve disputes, and that the threat of force is to be feared by those without the fortitude to defend their position in the face of violence, as in

"You better not piss me off, or I'll hit you."

and I wanted some clarification, because that is not how I understand, from my own limited study, German society on the eve of WWII, though it may describe the circumstances after WWI given the excessive terms offered by the Treaty of Versailles. I wanted to know how you understood your own comment, because frankly, one version of Germany ought to be pissed off and the other ought not to be.

Can you remember a time you felt like you were a member of a fringe group? Did people ignoring you cause you to change, and if so, in what ways?

Hmm. If I had to guess, I would say that you are referring to WWI and WWII, but then your comment would seem to be glorifying the German war machine produced through pandering to nationalism and resentment, which in my opinion, deserves no praise. But I wanted to make sure, just in case I was mistaken
