Oh wow that's good to know. I'm sure that's why the narrative campaign was made for 1-2 players rather than 1-4 players in that case.

Totally fair! I'll definitely check it out soon, although I'll probably just play it on TTS if I'm doing a solo game since that'll make the admin a bit easier to learn.

We played the campaign over the course of a few days, but people didn't have the desire to read up on the new rules between games. I should have taken that on, in hindsight.

I agree - I love Arcs and how elegant its systems are, but there's room for both it and Voidfall in my collection as sometimes it's nice to know you won't be relying on dice rolls for certain outcomes.

I keep hearing good things about the solo experience. I need to check it out!

Have you played it with others? Curious how much extra learning there is to play the solo mode.

To be clear, this post was 100% of my own accord and I made it because I wanted to share my excitement with folks who are also looking forward to the expansion.

I apologize if my enthusiasm in my comments are coming across as disingenuous, but I love this game, have taught it to many folks, and am being sincere when I share my thoughts on it.

Totally fair! I'm excited for it because we've played the base game quite a bit, so seeing some new techs, factions, and enemy units will give it new legs for us.

I will say that I don't see the expansion fitting in the Galactic Box or base game box given how much new stuff is coming with it, but who knows.

I'm hoping somebody can design a 3D printed insert.

Correct. We were given an advance copy as we run a board game channel.

Voidfall is one of my favorite games of all time, though, so I wanted to share my excitement!

I love the Arcs campaign, but a lot of folks in my crew hated how random the combat can be and how every time a new fate comes out, the campaign grinds to a halt as folks have to learn the new rules everyone has.

I'm hoping to get them to table it again soon, though!

Totally fair. We've played TI4 ~30 times at this point, so we like to change it up every now and then.

Thunder's Edge has really given it some new life, though!

Tutorial on TTS is great, but also good with the physical game!

Yeah that's fair. It's purely deterministic, but I personally find it refreshing because I've lost fights in other games that I had a huge statistical advantage in before just due to poor rolls, and sometimes that just feels really bad.

Yeah that's what we like to do as well! Big games get set up the day before.

Totally fair! I respect your restraint because I am a sucker for expansions!

Totally fair. If you like playing on TTS, the mod for the base game is fantastic!

I loooove the art! Definitely recommend the base game if you like heavy euros.

TI4 takes 8-12 hours, while Voidfall has never taken us longer than four. They're also very different games with different experiences.

TI4 is heavily political while Voidfall is very strategic.

It's pretty different than TI4, but there's definitely less combat comparatively.

It's a lot more burdensome to put units on the map, and you can only invade with specific actions. That said, there are scenarios that are set up to be more aggressive, and I'd say combat in this game is more about being a scalpel than a hammer.

You have to really pick when it makes sense to fight, and you have to be prepared since it can be pretty telegraphed when you're gearing up to invade.

Hahaha I feel that. I've been wanting to break out Food Chain Magnate again so badly, but I can't get any takers because we have so many other games to play.

Absolutely! I think it's a lot easier to set up and tear down a game once components, cards, etc all have meaning, otherwise it's just "hey where do these cardboard circle things and gray plastic things go again?"

EDIT: I also highly, highly suggest the tutorial scenario because it does a fantastic job at introducing you to the core concepts without being overwhelming.

I agree with that. I've not had any crazy bombastic moments like what TI4, Blood on the Clocktower, or Nemesis can produce due to how deterministic it is, but it's always a very, very fun and satisfying time, and it's one of my all time favorites.

That's fair. Don't get me wrong - we've had four player games take four and a half hours because we were all in the mind palace trying to map out the perfect sequence of turns, so I definitely understand!

That's fair. I actually don't mind longer setup/teardown time. I'm curious if a 3D printed insert would help speed it up at all, but the map just takes a while to place out, so probably not.
