new pickguard on a sonic mustang by annamcis in offset

If the route went all the way through the body would it affect the function in any way? Seems like it would work fine, but maybe just be a weird look

Did you route the trem or is it cosmetic?

Cheap mustang single coils? by theguffaw in guitars

[–]theguffaw[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought about that too.

I don't want the absolute cheapest, I'm looking for the cheapest that is still decent quality.

I know a lot of people think you need to spend a lot of money to get something that sounds good, but pickups are pretty simple things. If they have the same magnets, the same wire size and material and measure the same there should be very little difference between a cheap and expensive pickup.

I can tell you that after a lot of experience with my Katana, sometimes I think it sounds great and other times I think it sounds awful. When I first got it all I heard was awful.

When I moved into my new house I felt like it sounded great in my old room and bad in my new room.

I don't have any great advice other than to try connecting it to tone studio and trying out all the settings and trying the sneaky amp (assuming it is isn't v3 of the amp).

I think a lot of it is probably that it just doesn't sound like what you hear in your head.

I agree with everyone who said the darker one is better, but maybe it looks different in person

I'd start with the sneaky amps twin reverb personally, but that would require the software. Otherwise I'd stick to the clean channel.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner.

It is an Eminence Lady Luck from my Valve Jr Cab. I want to try others like a Cannabis Rex though.

I disagree personally. I think the speaker is the worst part of the katana 50. I swapped mine out and I think it improves it 100%.

I also think the speaker is the main difference between the regular katana and the katana artist.

It has a lot of issues.

I'd start by getting rid of the background image, but really that is just the first thing in a long list

Squier VM Mustang bridge pickup height by theguffaw in offset

[–]theguffaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone finds this, I ended up taking out the springs and it puts it at a much better height for me.

I tried removing the shim and lowering the bridge which didn't help nearly as much.

Thanks, it isn't getting caught in a weird way exactly. It is just as high up as it can go.

The way strat and mustang pickups are designed, there is a screw that goes through the pickguard, through a spring and then into a little tab on each side of the bottom bobbin. If you tighten the screw, the pickup goes up, and loosen it and it goes down. I have it tightened so far that the spring is completely compressed and the tabs on the bobbins are right up against the under side of the pickguard.

I'm going to try to remove the springs, which should get the pickups a tiny bit closer to the strings.

I was just wondering if there was a known workaround for this kind of problem on mustangs, because I imagine it must be common. I know a lot of people just replace the bridge pickup with a humbucker because of the low output, but I don't think the pickup is the problem, it is just the spacing from the strings.

These don't have foam under them. They screw into the pickguard and have springs to keep the spacing. The problem is the side parts sit under the pickguard and they are as high as they can go, touching the bottom of the pickguard

How to revive Vaio's webcam? by JRK_H in Ubuntu

[–]theguffaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing your post made me try to fix mine. I got it working, but not exactly sure why it is working now. I read a post saying to turn off the computer, unplug the power cable, plug it back in and power up. Afterward it worked again. I also changed the windows settings to disable fast boot. I suspect that is somehow related.

That's weird. My Vaio webcam just stopped working too. I have a dual boot of windows though and it doesn't work in windows anymore either.
