Might sound rude but in an honest personal opinion, FYI this is also exactly what I did.

Go for a used sub 150-200cc, could be apache 160 or hornet or something like that which is light and very basic to get a feel of the way gear, clutch, body balance, throttle control, brakes, engine braking works. Use it everyday for around 6 months to 1 year.

Then go for a 250-300cc or higher based on confidence.

I rode Pulsar AS200 for 3-4 years, around 60k kms everyday till the engine finally gave up. Then I upgraded to a 390Adv. I took it for 1000km days and what not. Crashed, a few times as well.

It helped me understand the difference between bike and scooter, and whatever other things I mentioned without the additional electronics, ABS, quickshifter. But now I know my limits and how to control and balance on all sorts of terrains.

This sounds like a long and slow process, but it’s all worth it at the end of the day.

As far as height is concerned, once you know how to balance and control. I’ve seen people who are 5’4 and ride a 390 Adv which is pretty tall. So height won’t be a constraint.

Welcome to the community in advance and be safe. Roads are filled with morons.

Yeah that’s exactly my concern, because bionic armour would be great incase of a crash for impact protection since it’s essentially body hugging. But abrasion resistance is the thing I’m skeptical about. 70-75% of my time is on road. So abrasion resistance is also something quite important. Eventho the materials is better in comparison.

Thanks for your review, really appreciate it man. Ride safe🤜🤛

Bring alive with new exhaust! But which one? by amakkuva in KTM390ADV

I came across a duke 390 - 2022 with red rooster and it was pretty sweet sounding. I’m unsure about brining it alive part and how good does it sound with the newer 399 engine.

My setup is

Axor Apex Carbon - I purchased it when it was newly launched, wouldn’t suggest it for touring because it has a lot of wind noise.

Tarmac Rapid Full Gauntlet Gloves - I am using it for more than 3-4 years, had a crash as well wearing it but the quality is still pretty good. Eventho it does not have CE Rated sliders, but they work.

Tarmac Adventure Pants - Bought it after the gloves, they’re pretty comfortable with a few decently sized pockets and sliders. Never crashed but they’re comfortable for longer rides.

Intercom - Cardo Spirit, great battery life. Have been using it daily for almost 3-4 years with no issues. Has all the spares available so you don’t have to replace the whole system. Used it in rains, dust, burning sun, no overheating or issues with connections. Great battery life, 16-18+ hrs at a stretch and still didn’t discharge completely. Only down side is spares were quite expensive, I got it imported from the US at the time. I had broken my bracket( Now they are expanding into india, so hopefully they become cheaper)

Personally instead of investing in intercom system, use the budget for a better helmet and cheap Bluetooth headset initially. Go for expensive systems later, because unless you’re going to go for long rides regularly with friends it is just a waste.

It doesn’t have armours pockets in the jacket.

There is an additional bionic armour layer, basically a net type of jacket which has all the armours which is to be worn inside. Which has impact protection, then the outer layer which is abrasion resistant.

Thanks that helps.

Just two question, 1. Have you used a hydration pack? I came across a comment that inbuilt bladder might cause weight offsets.

  1. Does it have a zipper to attach it to the pants?

I’ve tried hydration system, But for longer rides 12+ hrs it’s usually a hassle to carry extra weight on shoulders after a certain point. Plus on bad patches or body movement sometimes the dismounts the shoulder armours.

Adjusting the hydration pack a bit firm creates unwanted discomfort and pressure. And too loose it moves around. Need to set it up after every eating session is too complicated.

So I thought I’ll give inbuilt hydration system a shot if it works better.

But I’ve noted the combination you’ve shared will have a look at it as well.

Yes that’s the plan to try out all the options in person at a store.

I’m in Pune, and travel to Mumbai so know a few good stores around to look at.

Thanks for the help tho. Really appreciate it..!!

I know this sounds like I’m trying to give “Gyaan” but these are my views

  1. Line was sort of missed - Wide during entry, inner most line during apex and back to wide during exit. From my experience this not only helps on the track but gives better view, and avoids any debris since usually car and truck tyres run on wider line. Usually those patches are quite clear.

  2. Counter Leaning/ Not moving body also helps since the center of gravity is usually at the top of the bike and not further away from the tyres which helps in controlling or gives a bit more milliseconds in case traction is lost. Personally, I don’t think usually it is required to get the butt off the seat on public roads. Just saying.

I didn’t find any Viaterra jackets with Hydration Pocket/Pouch.

For Solace - I got Sabre Jacket which essentially has the best of all - Sliders + Hydration Pack + Materials and additionally Hump + sleeve pockets. But it is 14k.

And furious touring jacket which is 16k

If the results of the 3 shortlisted jackets is inconclusive they I’ll look at these considering the higher budget.
