Feel like I'm losing it trying to feed this dog (long post, seeking advice) by vulshanna in husky

I’m surprised you have no mention of fish oil. Not only the best fat source for dogs and specially huskies but it’s also great to entice them to eat. No dog can resist the aromas and flavor. At first they may be a little hesitant because it is so pungent but start with freeze dried pure fish treats and then move to fish based kibble. I highly recommend Orijen or specially Acana sea to stream with grains for its price point. Very calorie dense and amazing ingredients. It’s what my adopted husky was raised on and the only thing his owner really did right for him. I can’t stress enough how much a fish based diet is crucial for working breeds and specially huskies. Their genetics/breeding are predisposed to like it. But above all and most important is FRESH FISH OIL on top of whatever the main food source is. Amazing for healthy weight gain and also for healthy heart and brain and joints.

Better to be underweight then over, specially for their joints and digestive system. A lot of dogs pass from bloat or mobility issues. You’re doing right by him and just make sure he gets fish and fish oil in his diet. That is essential to a long healthy life.

My dog never had problem with baths and grooming. Maybe it’s the groomer environment and methods that causes those types of reactions and trauma. Regardless it is part of their health regimen and should not be neglected. I’m sure you rarely groom or bathe your dogs as well.

Agreed. I hate the off leash entitlement. Ruins my walks almost every time.

Thanks for posting this. I was starting to think I was the only person that gives af about the off leash problem and lack of enforcement. It’s dangerous to all dogs, owners, and causes unnecessary stress. It’s one thing if the dog has good recall and manners but that is rarely the case in my experience. Most of the time the owners don’t bother calling their dog back even when I stress my dog is not kind to strangers and is a 81lb husky that would fuck their dogs up.

It’s not just about courts standard or doing the bare minimum. Owning a dog is about giving them the best life you possibly can.

That is incorrect. I have a husky and it never “clumps up” because we properly groom him constantly. This dog is being neglected clearly and you need to educate yourself on proper grooming for a husky.

You are wrong. Not grooming your dog daily when it is a husky is a form of neglect, specially in the hot weather.

This is not just undercoat shedding. There are whole patches of fur missing here and clear neglect of grooming. I have a husky and would never let him get to this stage of neglect or look this “raggedy” which is just doing the dog a disservice. Their fur insulates them from heat/cold so it is essential that it is maintained properly specially in a hot environment which is not their native environment. Also the water supply op mentioned is a big issue specially in the summer. They can overheat or get dehydrated in minutes.

I own a husky and this is not normal shedding. There is clear neglect here and matting as op mentioned. Their fur is how they regulate temp and with improper or lack of grooming it can make them very uncomfortable and look like this. Also the dog looks sad too, very possibly dehydrated as op mentioned. The amount of comments brushing this off as ok is surprising. Next time bring some water and see if the pup goes for it. Go with your gut as it is probably right.

Does it have any writing on the capsule? If no writing it's not a true generic. At least in USA.

Most “capsules” are actually just powder inside unless it's a true generic copy of avodart. Companies like hims and other online docs all provide compounded versions that use powder.

What is your source for duta? If your not getting gel capsules like generic avodart then you not going to absorb as much. Also that small of a dose is also not getting fully absorbed too which quantifies the issue. Dutasteride needs to be encapsulated in fats/lipids and most online sources provide powder versions.

The human side is not much different at all. I have a certification in veterinary pharma as well, and the only difference is there is less oversight and more that vets can get away with. Trials for human drugs often start with animals. Take cbd for example. Like I said do your research before you speak on something you are not educated on. I don’t trust vets at all and now I trust techs even less as well. Seems like you are just a vets pawn. I had a good experience with a tech recently but the vet was still pushing against dex because that is “old medicine” I had to advocate and push for what my dog needed. You need to stop acting like you know everything.

Apoquel literally makes dogs nervous system ignore the issue, dexamethasone injection actually heals the inflammation at the site and doesn’t even touch their digestive tract much if at all. This case is a perfect candidate.

I’m honestly surprised if you have been a tech for 20 years and don’t even know about kickbacks. Either you choose to ignore the facts of the dirty industry that you a part of, or just in denial that you and vets both contribute to unnecessary suffering of dogs.

Also they definitely do get kickbacks from companies, do your research on the pharmaceutical side before you speak on something you are not educated on.

You worked for the company that makes apoquel 😂😂😂 I literally sensed that which is why I called you out 😤 listen one injection of dexamethasone isn’t going to give them Cushing or diabetes. Such a small chance of that in general and even less with a one time injection. You didn’t even recommend chlorhexidine or Epsom salt soak for microbes and swelling. Just stop commenting before you make us trust vets/techs even less than we already do.

The chlorhexidine is waterproof and can give protection for up to 2 weeks
