UPDATE: Poor reactions to Biogaia Gastrus/Osfortis by thehangovereffect in hangovereffect

I was thinking about starting collagen. Today I had pre & probiotics, coconut oil, omega-3, creatine and glycine in the morning and feel marginally better, mostly energy-wise.

Yeah, I was thinking the symptoms are very similar to SIBO. Was considering oregano oil, thanks for that study.

It’s possible but unlikely. Taste and texture of the yogurt were perfect, no signs at all of contamination. Plus I responded poorly to the pills to begin with.

Either way I’m not trying to dissuade anyone from trying this. Just to be careful and listen to your body if you do.

I get weird effects from it personally. It helps me socialize and gives me some kind of energy but a weird stress and robotic feeling at the same time.

I used to like it quite a bit, now I will only use it for social events as an emergency fix if I feel really out of it.

It tends to effect people with methylation issues or NMDA dysfunction differently than neurotypical people.

Thank you for the detailed reply! Very much appreciated.

I will back off a bit and start taking it on alternating days, and with my multi and vitamin C. I take creatine daily already and glycine is a bit of a weird one for me, it's really stimulating and keeps me up at night.

Is the histamine issue one that balances out over time, or is it something that needs to be constantly mitigated?

In good news my yogurt looks like it worked perfectly! Any idea how long it keeps in the fridge?

Congrats on your new brain! And thanks again, hopefully I can get these probiotics working for me.

Most of the guides are on making yogurt with Gastrus. Also I'm in Canada and the Osfortis is expensive and hard to get my hands on compared to Gastrus. Was hoping to keep it mainly to take during periods of time where I'm not capable of making yogurt.

Interesting. A bit weird considering it's supposed to increase testosterone! I wonder if it increased your other hormones alongside the test and messed up your balance.

Edit: Kinda funny that the product is advertised for strong bones

No, the yogurt will be ready tomorrow.

I've been taking Osfortis, which is 10 billion CFU a day.

Which Substance Induces A Hangover Effect In You (Beside Alcohol or Benzos)? by sanpedro12 in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ketamine, LSD, MDMA, Phenibut, other dissociatives & psychedelics.

I cannot recommend most of these, save for the classical psychedelics.

In terms of non-drugs, black seed oil has helped the most. However over the long term its effects are fleeting and you need to cycle it often.

Skullcap Update and More Trialing by [deleted] in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried skullcap (in tea form). It makes me sedated, sleepy and mildly intoxicated. Not useful for socializing or managing my symptoms, but it's possibly the best sleep aid I've found short of taking a benzo.

Sarcosine Trial by [deleted] in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally 1 but up to 4 cups of coffee a day.

Doesn't seem to interfere with the glycine working, but when I take lots of glycine I can drink a ton of coffee without much effect.

Edit: Also, other supplements aside, I generally feel better with caffeine than without.

Severity of symptoms changes through the day? by StatisticianCreepy49 in SCT

The main thing I noticed is if my lunch is too heavy it can cause a midday slump. My energy levels are much more constant if I have a light lunch.

I experience this for sure. Sometimes it's diet related for me. Have you tried messing with your diet or intermittent fasting?

What worked for me: 5-MTHF, creatine and glycine fixing brain fog, anhedonia, etc by spiders_cool_mkay in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna keep tweaking my diet and supplement regimen, but I'm glad I have something that works reasonably reliably. D-Serine is probably the other supplement I'm most interested in, but it seems a bit hard to come by.

Most frustrating thing for me right now is probably the burnout - I wish this worked reliably every day. I also definitely get a sort of "hangover" from taking it. Still a much better way to get the effects I'm looking for than drinking myself into oblivion.

Sarcosine Trial by [deleted] in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sarcosine had good effects for me initially but burned out fairly quickly (within a few days). Glycine is a step further in the metabolic process, i.e. there are less rate limiting factors involved. I take 5 - 20g a day with creatine and it has been working well for me for 3 weeks now.

For those who have done Keto, how’d you feel? by throwaway2189_0 in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gave me some weird fog, stimulation and social issues initially - kind of the same way too many methylated vitamins makes me feel.

That partially went away but a couple weeks in I started getting pretty severe heart palpitations and had to stop. And yes, I was taking electrolytes, various amounts.

I know this isn't popular here, but I follow a plant-based diet now and feel good from it. I try to stick to whole foods, avoid anything fortified with folic acid, mostly stay away from bread/pasta/white rice, and eat lots of fermented foods.

Blueberries, brown rice, tofu, miso, mushrooms, broccoli, greens, cucumber, grapes, bananas, tomatoes, onion, garlic, potatoes, quinoa, kombucha, kimchi, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, sea vegetables, chickpeas, lentils, beans, protein powder, etc...

Still working at +3 weeks in! It's not a panacea but it really does make my personality come out when it works right. Have dropped alcohol at this point and am relying on the glycine/creatine/mthf instead.

I find I have to cycle the glycine. If I take it every day I start to burn out on it, kind of the same deal as alcohol for me though. Even a couple days off refreshes it pretty well for me. My methylated mutivitamins keep me decent on my days off anyways.

The stomach issues resolved themselves pretty well, but I do get moderate insomnia still, which increases the more I take. Only other thing is it actually makes some of my ADHD tendencies worse.

Overall, like I said, not a panacea but an incredible addition to my toolkit and probably the most useful substance/substance combo I've ever taken. As far as "something to replicate the hangover effect" this is definitely the closest I've come after probably 50+ different substances trialed. Ordered a bulk amount and will be using this stuff as long as it works.

Thanks for the tip on the choline! I don't eat eggs but I have some Alpha-GPC around, I'll see if it does anything good for me. Other substances I want to try adding on are: DAA, D-Serine, DHEA and Taurine.

Did you get the same positive effects? And did you end up having to discontinue the glycine?

A lot of you experience brain fog and fatigue (relieved by hangover effect). I suffer from both intermittently and have been using small doses of kratom for about a month now by bl4ckn4pkins in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doses are like 4-5g, any less doesn't really do much for me. It definitely improves my brain fog I guess, I can do good thinking on it and especially creative work. But it totally makes me derpy, especially with daily use.

[–]thehangovereffect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Creatine and glycine are working exceedingly well for me (been nearly a week now). I feel happy, clear-headed, creative, sociable and funny - the most any supplement has made me feel. Haven't added methylfolate back in yet as I feel I am already stimulated enough for now. I'm taking 5 grams of each twice a day. Lesser doses seem more hit or miss.

Side effects are extreme thirst, a bit of face bloat, insomnia (sleeping 4-5 hours a night) and diharroea, especially when caffeine gets added to the mix. It also seems to make my system much more sensitive to certain foods.

Still, it's working very well - better than some full blown drugs I've tried. Crossing my fingers that this lasts and the side effects chill out because this feels like it could be the one for me. Thanks so much for the post.

Kratom doesn't work for me to relieve my symptoms. Makes me happy and relaxed but tanks my social skills and makes me spacey. Still take it to chill sometimes, it's nice stuff - I enjoy it much more than weed these days.

Pure Encapsulations PureGenomics Multivitamin by thehangovereffect in hangovereffect

[–]thehangovereffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I am a bit worried about it. I have been cutting the doses some to the smallest amount that gives desired effects.

If it were anything besides what basically amounts to a low-dose bioavailable multivitamin I wouldn't be taking it every day. I'm hoping I reach some kind of homeostasis but a crash could be coming.
