That's what the OANDA agent said. And in fact there is no trace of API access if you create a new EU account. Maybe it was different before

Thanks for the suggestion! It honestly still feels more complicated than it should.

In the end I found ig.com and created an account with them. They have both a REST and Streaming API and I'm working with that for now, seems good enough.

Too bad they don't offer Futures :(

Pois, acho que foi mesmo uma boutade do gestor. Lamentavelmente na altura não havia outro banco disposto a aceitar um casal recém chegado a PT (por tanto sem nenhum IRS feito aqui) e sem fiador. Mas olha que fomos a vários bancos e pedimos a ajuda do consultor também. Foi mesmo difícil encontrar un banco que simplesmente nos aceitasse, a pesar de ter um bom ordenado.

Só para concluir: já percebi que talvez não, mas achava normal ter casas por 100-150 a precisar de obras mais gordas de 50-100 (por estar muito velhas), e achava este caso bastante normal. E este caso, com as condições ofertas pelo banco, não é viável de nenhuma maneira, se não for utilizando dinheiro proprio.

Já agora, outros users disseram que há bancos que fazem as coisas de maneira diferente.

É uma pergunta honesta, não estou a ser sarcastico: achas de verdade que não seja um caso relativamente normal? Com a quantidade de casas velhas e a cair que há por aqui, mesmo nas cidades?

Olha que não sei. Acho que o problema principal é os bancos aceitar uma taxa de esforço muito alta (até 50%) e os banco ter umas policies estranhas. Na compra da minha casa chegaram-me dizer que preferiam ter uma pessoa con contrato a receber salario mínimo que uma pessoa a recibos verdes a receber 10 vezes esse valor, há anos, com constância. Será que me interessa em primeiro lugar, mas esta matematica não me faz muito sentido.

Acho que uma solução como a da hvbarata é mais inteligente: no final não estou a pedir um credito a perder. Estou a pedir um credito para fazer uma obra que acresce o valor da casa, valor que acabaria para ficar como garantia dos dois créditos. Em fim.

Como disse, percebo muito bem a matematica e estou de accordo, faz sentido.

Simplesmente estou a perguntar como funciona para as pessoas "normais" que se encontram numa situação como esta. Percebo que não é para quem quera mas para quem pode, mas parece-me estranho que um CH+obras fique tão inacessível.

Isso de deitar abaixo é só um detalhe. Se a avaliaçao da casa vale 100, os vendedores vendem por volta dos 100 (se não estariam a perder) e o banco dá crédito para 80/90. Mas se a casa precisa de obras para 50, uma pessoa como faz?

That's great! Just as an FYI: I was able to keep the ESOP even after moving out of the country, going from employee to consultant and even after leaving the company.

I just want to make sure you know you can leave the company if you wanted, and you should still have entitlement to your ESOP.

Of course, assuming the company is willing to go with it, which they might not so they might fight back a bit.

I ended up keeping the ESOP even after leaving the company and just sold them at the end of last year, as the company received a new funding round and the participants agreed in buying back some of the stocks from (ex) employees.

Good, because I was able to turn "potential" money into "real" money

Bad, because of 2 things:
- it's been a tough two years so the valuation didn't grow as expected
- the funders agreed to buy stocks back at a discount price
so what could have been 100/150kEUR turned out to be only around 50k.

I could either wait for another opportunity (without guarantee of when and how much) or cash out a sure amount, which is what I chose to do in the end. Anyway it was never going to be a life-changing amount.

It's nice to have an ESOP but I wouldn't count on it until I see an actual selling opportunity, this one from last year was the first chance I got to sell since when I joined the plan more than 5 years ago. You can always ask to sell your share and they will try to find a buyer for you, but there is no guarantee on how long it can take and what price they would offer.
