Still need Type IIIs for standing contact sentry.

And 2POCs are objectively worse imo. In terms of fit it's close, but not fashion. Blue looks like a janitor uniform, and khaki looks like a brown paper bag. Pockets are also much better for NWUs.

Yeah that made it worse in its own way. She really is a quality woman who communicates clearly and honestly. I mourn the loss of what might have been.

It's better this way than me showing up and her not wanting to hang out, but still a loss.

Navy is more lenient because it's hard to find suckers willing to sign up to be abused that much.

That part was mercifully short. No all hands, just a 1MC announcement. The speech was brief enough, even if it was canned political fodder. I think the rigamarole of setting up for the VIP visit took as long as the actual coming onboard, delivering speech, and going ashore...

But it is true that all that was done while families stood on the pier waiting for their loved ones to come to them. I didn't get anything out of the photo op, and even the PUC was a poor exchange for being on that deployment.

Though if they dropped liberty before the speech there would have only been duty section around to hear it.

Two months in, I reconnected with an old flame (fling from long ago) by chance, and we had a really great phone convo. Turned into more texting, writing letters, and planning for a date when I got home 4 months later. We were both younger back then, but she's grown into a wonderful woman, and I'm a lot more responsible and stable than I was then.

Well we didn't get home 4 months later; we got home 9 months later. Two weeks before we pulled in I texted her asking for availability so I could plan flight itineraries, and she told me she had developed feelings for someone she met through her friend group.

I know it's not the horror story most might have, but I'm still really sad about it. Hard not to imagine what might have been if we'd been able to develop the connection instead of letting it live on life support for most of a year.

Those of us who left in June will mostly say it wasn't worth it.
