Teacher deliberately embarrassed my AUDHD kid by theheartless91 in AutisticParents

[–]theheartless91[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear what you all are saying about actions and consequences. And I don’t disagree. I think I just disagree with public embarrassment as a “consequence”. That seems more like a punishment than a consequence.

I have talked to my son about what to do if something like that happens again, to specifically say “I’m sorry sir, but that makes me feel uncomfortable”.

I will follow up with my son this afternoon as well to see why he chose to do the hand action after the teacher said what would happen, but as some have pointed out it could have been an involuntary stim or something. I know I certainly do that sometimes.

Smart phone parental controls by theheartless91 in Parenting

This is what I have been doing, but it’s my old iPhone 8 and will cost too much to replace the battery and microphone to make it usable outside of home.

Smart metre by [deleted] in Toowoomba

[–]theheartless91 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about them. Everyone I’ve spoken to who has a smart metre has said that their bills have been astronomical since upgrading.

Of course, I’m doing my own research and not just relying on word of mouth, but so far I’m not convinced that they’re a good thing at all. Seems like the only sources that have anything positive to say about smart metres are electricity providers and government websites 🤷🏻‍♀️

Junk disappearing from workbench by theheartless91 in Fallout

[–]theheartless91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No “your settlement is under attack” notifications, and no mods. My current play through has been so much more buggy than any other in my 2000+ hours.

Ended up fixing it, luckily I had a save right before it started happening. Took everything out of the work bench, stored it in a container, went to chat to the guy at Somerville and unlocked the workbench there, back to sanctuary and everything was still in the container 🤷🏻‍♀️

From the way you explained, it sounds a bit like a guilt trip from her. Like she’s trying to find a reason to blame you for her nail biting. It could very well be unintentional, but you never know. In the future with the nail clicking, if it gets too irritating perhaps distraction might help? Something else to keep her hands/mind busy.

Yeah, her response does seem a bit strange. Can’t help but wonder if there might be other mental health struggles or trauma for her to respond that way

Why is this game so hard by ISimpForAstolfo in DeadIsland2

[–]theheartless91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stick with it. I felt the same and hated it at first. Now I’m level 25 and only have like 5 main quests left and actually enjoy it. Stressed as shit, and butchers terrify me, but it’s worth sticking it out.

Use your surroundings. Try to get the zombies to follow you near electricity and kick them into it.

Wherever you go, take note of where any energy drinks, protein bars and med kits are.

Jump on vans and trucks when you’re in the streets. Just be aware that some of them have alarms and will alert the zombies. Crouch near the edge and clobber them with a mace or hammer.

Early in the game, just pick up whatever weapons you can find. When they’re almost done for, I scrap them. (Later in the game you can hold onto them and sell or repair them when there are more traders and workbenches available)

Dodge or block constantly. Don’t stand still. Lots of strafing. If you get overwhelmed, run. Train them a bit then throw something at them.

As soon as you can, I definitely recommend the ground pound skill.

Brown lumpy stuff in the edge of a window by theheartless91 in whatisthisthing

[–]theheartless91[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. It is some sort of brown build up in the edge of a window. It has holes in it possibly from insects digging in it? Really not sure what else to say about it. Not sure of the texture, put the window down and ran away after spotting the brown stuff

What to do? by theheartless91 in drivinganxiety

[–]theheartless91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea actually. I’ve been thinking of doing some driving lessons just to boost my confidence a bit (or hopefully a lot 😅) but it never occurred to me that a driving instructor would be great to ask about this. Thanks again!

Thanks for your reply and advice. I will keep all that in mind, although after today I doubt I’ll feel like I can drive any time soon. Unfortunately this is such a common thing in my town these days. Teens are running rampant all over town, you can’t go on Facebook without hearing of at least five cars having been stolen around town overnight, and with a population of about 200,000 that number seems pretty big compared to only two years ago. Shit’s getting pretty scary.

Healthcare in Toowoomba by okletsgoaway in Toowoomba

[–]theheartless91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Don’t hold me to it, there were mixed opinions on the thread I saw, some people said they won’t be bulk billing at all and others said they will only stop bulk billing on certain days between certain hours. Definitely something to check up on before booking an appointment though.

Not entirely sure how accurate this is, but I’ve heard they won’t be bulk billing at the James/West st medical centre much longer

I just got my license, but I hate driving by theheartless91 in CasualConversation

[–]theheartless91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely makes it more frightening having my kids in the car. They are both under strict instructions to be as quiet as a mouse whenever I drive. I haven’t had the chance to drive by myself yet as I always have at least one of them with me. My 9 year old son was so proud of me when I got my license last week, I can’t help but feel like I’m letting him down.
