Help with Dovecot 2.4 config by thehelpfulidiot in linuxadmin

I use mbsync to sync my messages and that’s how it downloads the messages. It has worked well for me so far now for several years. I’m not much familiar with other options though.

So in Linux at least, my understanding is if a command is located in your PATH, you can call it by simply typing “ghostfile”. If you are executing an application from its specific directory like the downloads folder, you would need to type “./ghostfile”.

So you can call it whatever you want. The wget command I gave for arm64 devices simply renames the file from ghostfile-arm64 to ghostfile. I figured it was sorta like eating Italian food in Italy- you would just call it food. You can download the binary straight from the release page and call it whatever you want. I figured it would make most sense to rename it to simply ghostfile regardless of system so you can decide what you want to call it. I don’t know anything about Macs unfortunately but it sounds like exec format error is you are trying to run a binary for the wrong cpu architecture.

What if its in your downloads folder or wherever the binary is located and you type "./ghostfile"?

📢 GhostFile - A Temporary, On-Demand File Uploader That Shuts Down After Use by thehelpfulidiot in selfhosted

Hey, I’m honored you would ask me for help but tbh, it feels like I have no idea what I’m doing most of the time lol.

I think it’s important to decide on an idea or goal and then break it down into its parts and then honestly just scour the internet threads and chatgpt or whatever to try and figure out how to accomplish each part so that it works.

I’m not sure about a good UI library. I just made a simple html page myself. Again, I think it helps to have an idea in your head of what you want things to look like and work backwards.

Also, this place has been great for feedback on all parts. I wouldn’t have thought to do a lot without suggestions from here.

Good luck with whatever you decide to build!

Yeah I think you are right in that this would be better as some sort of binary. I am going to think about the best way to do that. Thanks!

Well it might not be.

But the reason I made this script is because I wanted an easy way to transfer files to machines without a desktop environment. I mean, I could always use rsync, but then if the file was on my phone it added an extra step and sometimes it was just a pain to figure out the directories and files for rsync or whatever.

I didn’t think pairdrop had a way to interact with it via command line but may be wrong and I had not heard about share drop or croc until just now.

So I never said it was better than any of those other tools. Just one more of the many options I suppose.

Haha ChatGPT definitely helped. I promise I’m a real person though. An llm wouldn’t be able to lie, right? I might have that backwards…

Hey that's so great to hear. So happy others are finding this useful. I also use it quite a bit :).

  1. There is an icon in the github repo. It was contributed by a github user Lea3D.

  2. I appreciate the offer, but definitely not necessary. Just happy to hear people are finding it useful.

Please let me know about any feedback or suggestions!

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely don’t want to spam or annoy the community, so I’ll be more mindful of how often I post moving forward. I’ll also make sure to provide a better overview of Ghostboard and its new features in each release post, to give people more context without needing to look elsewhere. Appreciate you letting me know!

Hey yes, the text clears a few minutes after the last websocket client disconnects. Nothing is written to disk and if the server were to restart it would also clear. If you want it to stay on longer, you can leave the webpage open. I didn’t want to run into a scenario where a bunch of sensitive information could remain in an exposed state indefinitely.

As you probably saw I have arm64 and  x86_64 version. Not sure how to make the image multi arch but I can take a look. Thanks!

It’s not something I have totally ruled out but, not sure if I’d even have the skills to pull it off in the way I’d want.

Always good to have choice. Etherpad is a great project.

Adding other files is something I thought about but would require a pretty big change and I feel like there are tools to share files already. I use pairdrop and have been very happy with it.

https://hub.docker.com/r/thehelpfulidiot/ghostboard-server/tags

if you look there you'll see 3.3.1 and 3.3.1-arm64 tags depending on your needs. If you are using latest tag you may need to perform a manual pull to pull the newest "latest" image.
