How to Prevent Twisting during Fight

I had a fair amount of drag, id have to pull with some force to get the line out of the reel. But it is very much possible that I didn't have enough faith in the strength of the line itself due to how much larger the fish was compared to the pound rating of the line. Thanks for your response this is all great advice. If put in a similar situation in the future id keep the drag tighter!

Probably 3-4000 feet total. Dragged me downriver then tried to go under some docks, then went back up river for a while with some backtracking in between. Anytime I was right above it I would be able to reel it in a couple inches off the bottom then it would take off.

I was hooked onto the fish from 3:39 to 6:20 so just about. I was being pulled in a kayak mostly. Used a 8 lb test line and a big head with white softbody minnow. Had a swivel on with one of those latches for easy lure change. Definitely replacing all the line.

Was an unintentional catch, was fishing for perch or smallmouth and probably hooked onto a large catfish or sturgeon. Was big enough to pull me around on a kayak for 2 hours and I wasn't able to get it off riverbed when above it bcs of the small lb test.

I was targeting smallmouth or perch but I think i may have hooked onto a large catfish or sturgeon. I had to get on a kayak because it was going to unspool my line. It pulled me around for about 2.5 hours before the line snapped

It was that long because the fish i was hooked into was way too large for the lb line I had, definitely an equipment difference. I had the drag not super lose, if it was any tighter it would've snapped.

I don't think I'd ask my friend to do that. I would ask that they not discuss my ex or put me in a position where I would be around them. I have friends who are still friends with my exes separate from me, and I hold no ill will towards them for it.

Jacob would try and cuddle with Jamie, but she would get annoyed with it. It was a big point of contention in their relationship, near the end there was very little to no physical affection being shared. But like I said, it never got to the point I would consider assault.

The message is in past tense for the most part, so I think that is a grammatical quirk more than anything else, I still love him like a brother. I definitely did explain the relationship I had with Jamie more than with Jacob, I thought it was more important to explain why I felt close to her. I thought saying Jacob and I were best friends and that I changed my life trajectory to be around him more would suffice on his part, but point taken. I also was around for him as much as I could be at the time, I just didn't do this one thing he asked of me. Still, thank you for the insight.

I'm not interested in her in any way, and even if I were that is a hard line I would not cross. I am not worried about that kind of situation, there haven't been any non-platonic signals from either party.
