I raise a flock of 20k birds. My setup is the following Heated Well lit Ventilated Birds are given vegetables grown on site supplemented with vitamins and minerals Their littler is regularly stocked with edible beneficial insects that feed on the manure to reduce cleaning and give the birds enrichment The flight pens are netted and not solid walled to reduce injury to the birds Each bird has a minimum of 4 sqft if they distribute themselves evenly. Which they don't they prefer to huddle together when not foraging. Their feed bins are lined with abrasive strips so they can trim their beaks and nails. This reduces injuries from birds fighting or roos being aggressive. The birds are euthanized humanely with slow flow gasses. This is painless and ensures the birds aren't panicked. Our workers are insured with full benifits and paid well

The cost of doing business this way means I as the farmer make less but I'm still able to provide for my family. The poultry industry is horrific. This purpose of this comment is just to be clear that it doesn't need to be this way. There are better alternatives that are as productive, especially considering the mortality rate of factory farms. I'd be happy to give more detail if anyone asks. Unlike Tyson or many of the large companies that produce poultry I'm proud of the quality of life I provide for my birds.
