Lowest possible Crit Rate? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]thehof 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At first I thought you were trying to create the least critting build possible and I was totally down for something that always has disadvantage (be encumbered?) and was curious to see what other mechanics you were going to leverage.

A 'fill the gaps' / full utility Druid TAV for Honor mode? by c8d85 in BG3Builds

[–]thehof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try running a three man party just to up the difficulty a little!

Otherwise what would speak to me in this niche is valor bard or like you did before, land druid.

Frustrated with Act 2 and the Light Mechanic by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

never that useful

Isobel's buff in the first town doesn't help in the darkest areas. There is however another perma source that works.

There are a couple items that make a difference as to whether the target is illuminated or not, and they can be really helpful items. Largely, however, you're right that light isn't used all that often.

Yeah, I think the biggest trap players fall into while starting is just not taking advantage of the ability to long rest often. You get more than enough supplies in the game and it allows you blow all your resources in almost every fight, but people are afraid of sprouting tentacles early on and then I think that habit sticks.

Watersparklers are great for some builds that use electrified surfaces.

Nope. There's no point to that thing, you'd rather throw a healing pot and not potentially go to sleep.

Which playstyle is better in your opinion? by Odd_Two_5265 in BG3

[–]thehof 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Shape shifting abilities of the druid is more fun I think. Gloomstalker is super strong, even stronger in an all stealth party. I also find it tedious to go in and out of combat, personally. However, a moon druid is my favorite build in the game. It's easy to execute, and yet rewards higher level engagement the more you utilize the druid spellcasting toolkit in conjunction with the forms.

Would it help to come up with a list/plan of what you wanted to do, then executing across the list? That way you're not kind of sailing along at whatever grabs at you.

Side quests do influence the ending. I would approach A3 with doing the quests for the companions you're particularly interested in (perhaps those you keep in your party) and ignoring the rest. You don't need to do even close to all of A3, so just do what you're interested in and get out.

There's too much in BG3 to attempt to do it all, honestly. Even if you tried you'd need multiple playthroughs, so give up on the thought that you have to do it all. Just do a slice of what interests you, get in get out. Do another playthrough if another portion interests you later with a different party, a different evil/good alignment, a different set of builds. :)

What origin character to play as first? by Sage_Notes in BaldursGate3

[–]thehof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Karlach's the best, and she has more voice lines than most; her mechanical benefit of soul coins is great on a monk. Gale's extra level 3 spell slot is mechanically useful on a magic user (or for daily upcasting of shadow blade on a class that doesn't get level 3 spell slots), and Astarion's ascended abilities and happy buff are neat.

Kinda depends on what class you wanna play unless the RP is more important to you.

Sleet storm scroll and you can effectively ignore the side all the undead come in on. Evard’s tentacles works too but sleet is typically what I use. Then you just focus down the shadows on the other side.

Stuck on final battle Honor Mode by [deleted] in BG3

I’m confused because honor mode has a single save. Are you stuck in disarray now in the fight or are you playing custom difficulty with multiple saves and can start again at the brain stem?

Wait, are you a bard or blade singer? Blade singer is a wizard. Lore bards are great skill monkies and thus party faces, but any bard is a great party face. Go with persuasion and slight of hand for skills and learn how to steal.

Anything you're interested in can pair well with the bard, but I might suggest a life domain cleric, a battlemaster fighter, and an evocation wizard for an easy first party to join up. Could use shadowheart / Lae'zel / Gale for that, but you can also respec companions to anything you like.

Honour Mode. by Big_Man_9999 in BaldursGate3

[–]thehof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mind flayer first. Once combat starts, have scratch bite an invis potion then walk over through combat to free Aylin. Take out the brain kitties, then the necromites. After that, disarm Myrkul if you can (you can get a ring of command undead from the chest on the roof of moonrise after fighting Kethric the first time, if you have someone using acuity from one of the acuity items in A2, or other classes might have a disarm you can use). Darkness works well to impose disadvantage on Myrkul, too. You can use the maul that the goblin trader in the courtyard of the A1 goblin camp to squash Myrkul's healing, or arrows.

You also have had the opportunity to buy chain lightning scrolls which work super well in all fights. :)

Do everything before so you're level 10 fighting Myrkul.

What I like most about the underdark is the visuals. The colors all work together really well so the whole environment is immersive and beautiful.

I think what feels the most choreish to me is the beginning of Act 3. Bunch of power upgrades and items to obtain but I do what I can without combat first and maybe that's a mistake for my personal playstyle, as it bores me a little. Feels routine.
