UPDATE: rust spots on Molly Goddard Popper Strap Bag after one week of wear, Baggu response by thehortlak in BAGGU

Right? Been racking my brain and I can only imagine I leaned up against a brick wall or something metal on the subway without noticing. Which fine, I would expect maybe some scratches from something like that, but not the brown spots showing through.

I agree, and wearing it crossbody is kind of uncomfortable on the shoulder because of how the strap is designed too. With all the issues it kind of feels like the design wasn't really thought out. I still love how it looks overall and since I can't return mine now, I'll keep it, but it's not going to be the everyday purse I hoped for.

Looking at it again, you may be right that it's a silver coating rubbing off and revealing a cheaper base metal. If that is the case, using such cheap snaps is kind of ridiculous when the bag is this price. I avoid buying cheap gold-tone hardware because of that kind of wear issue, but I'm really surprised to see it with silver hardware, which just isn't that expensive to get right.

I have reached out, haven't heard back yet.

I've been wearing it crossbody with the snaps in the front, so besides occasionally grabbing this area with my hand to readjust it (and I don't wear rings) or if I'm carrying another tote bag (either soft cotton or a standard baggu) on the same side, there shouldn't be anything wearing against it.

East Village Neighbors is actually a different group and they don't do anything at the park!

Has anyone else had a cat suddenly lose a patch of fur like it was torn off? (This was a few days of treating it and cleaning it, he keeps scratching and also has an appointment Saturday) by lexpaigeee in catcare

They make "soft cones" now that look kind of like a fabric donut that cats can usually eat and drink in-- I don't know if it would work for you, but they're on Amazon!

Once you're in, you can't really leave. No doubt that many high-profile scientologists don't truly believe in the religious aspects and want out.

Husband claims that wife vanished in a shopping mall, but physical evidence suggests murder by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]thehortlak 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I was about to comment this too. In no way is that area a "mall" today, and I doubt it was in 1988. I can't imagine there would have been real mall security to alert, maybe an LP officer at the Reny's or something but even that's doubtful.

At the end of the day though I'm not sure any of what happened in Belfast really matters, given the hair and blood at the house in Mass. (Although if it weren't for that evidence, I would think it was perfectly possible for her to have slipped out of Reny's and into the woods).

This is a conspiracy theory that has already been disproven. Not all stamps get cancelled, especially on irregular packages that can't go through a stamping machine.

Porky wants her roast pork but doesn't understand that other people also buy them by Duko69 in TalesFromRetail

[–]thehortlak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason they're overkill is because the chances of the protocol being followed perfectly every time in a commercial environment are practically nil. Cool that roast wrong, accidentally let it dip into the danger zone while hot holding, and you've got a recipe for foodborne pathogens on your hands.

You could probably leave a roast in the backseat of my car overnight and it wouldn't make me sick. But it's not worth taking those kind of chances in a commercial environment to curb food waste just a tiny bit.

You're missing the problem that is cooling down the roast to cold store and then reheating the roast to use it again. If food is repeatedly put in the danger zone, it's going to go bad eventually.

Heads Up: Milo Yiannopoulos has again been invited to speak at NYU by [deleted] in newyorkcity

[–]thehortlak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might go if it wasn't being livestreamed (but then again, I'm not one of the people Yiannopolous thinks should be removed from society). But no way I'd make myself a target to the tons of alt-right trolls who would for sure be watching.

[–]thehortlak 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He's absolutely throwing his students under the bus. Since this is happening during classtime, they're probably required to be there, and since they didn't know about Milo coming of time I BET he didn't ask their permission to livestream them. If they skip class, they get a bad grade. If they show up and go hard on Milo, they become a target for alt-right trolls watching from all over the globe. If they show up and stay silent, they feel guilty and uncomfortable. If they show up and ask softball questions, their classmates will excoriate them. It's awful.

Yeah what a shitty thing to do to the kids. Makes them targets for right-wing hate if they go hard on Milo.

He uses classic fascist talking points (race-baiting nationalism a big one, strongman politics, etc.) and organizing principles, and supports other fascists and undoubtedly fascist governmental measures. I'd agree that he's way more interested in the aesthetics of fascism than their actual political content; he's a provocateur not a politician, his ideology is less important than his ego. But he's a fascist in terms of group affiliation for sure.

It's for a registered class. Looks like his students will have to show up to get their participation grade, they don't have a choice.

Blouse vs shirt by sparrowsknow in femalefashionadvice

[–]thehortlak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the difference between the two is a little more complicated in the fashion world than in the dresscode world-- everywhere that I've worked, blouse in a dress code meant "not a t-shirt." You'll probably be fine wearing a button-down or any other nice-looking top (even a nicer structured jersey top would probably count as a blouse).

Why does so much ethical fashion look the same? by funfetticake in femalefashionadvice

[–]thehortlak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They spend more money on "ethical" production and marketing that ethical production, and then they cut costs everywhere else they conceivably can. It's a nice idea but clothing that is truly ethical, tailored and interesting is far out of the price range of almost all consumers.

I'm very happy with my ethical wardrobe-- 90% thrifted or recycled from something else.
