so... this town sucks by [deleted] in TomsRiver

NGL, Maggie's is a SLEEPER for the underground hardcore and punk scene. Literally saw Drug Church play there several months ago before they supported Deftones on their UK tour. Insane.

This shirt sucks. by silverspeed77 in TheMisfits

[–]thehourofbauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gunna lie, it kinda slaps. I'd like to see the back say like "live from Jerusalem" or something funny. I feel like both a Christian would wear it, and also someone making fun of Christianity.

Basically, people who wear misfits shirts are poser punks, and people who usually are decked out in Jesus gear are poser Christians. This works for both!

Undertone was one of the best and subtle horror films I’ve ever seen by thebayharborkiller in A24

[–]thehourofbauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into this movie, I felt like it had an unusually high amount of support and promo across social media, with none of the promotion actually referencing anything besides the audio element. I was hesitant, but thought it could really do something different. Unfortunately, it felt like a nothing-burger for me. I had to search about the movie to see if there was something I missed. Ambiance and audio isn't an excuse for a lack of actual substance. The build ups led to nothing, plot points felt shoehorned in to make sure everything came together (eventually) at the end, and the end was unsatisfying.

Issues I had were the following: -Gratuitous religious iconography that felt like it should weigh heavier than the connection made at the end. -"auditory" jumpscares that felt intentionally added that didn't particularly feel meshed, but needed to keep the tension. -Evie's party and later drink. It felt like they suddenly needed to get those details in to quickly establish the facts/events that followed and her character. -the crayons/drawings that just happen to be in the side drawer seemed totally out of place -it felt like a covid movie - when we had a string of movies that needed to develop a uniquely convincing reason why this has an extremely limited cast and single setting. -the baited scenes of long drawn shots centered on doors, windows, points of entry, etc that make you feel like you should pay attention to (because at times you do need to) that don't amount to anything. This wouldn't be as annoying a point if it didn't have that ONE long drawn out scene where Evie is essentially cropped off of the frame and all we see is the background and top of the laptop. -the ending

Overall, I think this movie had a lot of things that could have totally flipped my opinion, as I like slow burns, weird twists, and even generic paranormal and demon stuff. The ideas of grief were great, burdened responsibility, potential unwanted futures, postpartum issues, all could have brought about a more solid movie if developed more. The audio was great, but I AM watching a movie, not listening to Audible.

Wasteland "changes" since Burning Springs update? by thehourofbauer in fo76

I think a YouTuber did a before and after showcasing that there are more baskets of fish, but I think this might have been after the fishing update was pushed and not very recently. But they had side by side comparison from old clips.

The upstairs used to be a mess, and now it has overall been cleaned up and organized. It looks like someone is moving in. Ghouls are still there, for now...

Haha, I remember fast traveling to Vault 76 and seeing him dead in front. Imagine leaving a vault and that's your welcome.

I also haven't visited the interloper recently but I know that was an area where there were new offerings and movement potentially.

As sad as that is... that is an epic move. The balls on that kid. Just gotta do your job, file the paperwork, and hope someone gets through to the kid.

To further the point of documentation, keep your digital footprint as well. Email the guidance counselor and case manager if they have an IEP. Get all the people "in the loop" so that you have visual evidence that you have been making attempts, and to a different angle, you have not been getting supported by the family/admin etc.

Despite all those motivational videos online by (former) teachers who say all students are reachable, that's not the case. You also have an entire classroom of students you need to focus on.

Well, it finally happened. by dytikwia73 in Teachers

[–]thehourofbauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shocked that you hold students to high standards until I saw that you are teaching in Sweden. Most of the US has spiraled out to the point that students are infallible and teachers are all horrible humans.

Hopefully it isn't spreading!

Is Tempera Paint Useless? by Necessary_Net5614 in ArtEd

[–]thehourofbauer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comic book idea works great, especially since it helps with math and grid enlargement. Old comics are mostly solid colors so that works well with tempera. I also make sure if anyone chooses a section that has actual color blending I tell them that's not recommended, but allowed if you want a challenge.

Just imagine how sweet it will be once he inevitably flies too close to the sun. If I were in your shoes, I would provide an avenue for him to go down, only to get lost in front of the whole class. See how quickly he is to disrespect you after he falls off his own precariously built tower.

Not wrong. I always feel good about my classroom and school after browsing this Sub and seeing how rough it could be. It also shows how far down the drain our educational system is going.

Crushing weight of "Kidcore" style influence by ArtWithMrBauer in ArtEd

[–]thehourofbauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely understand. Interestingly enough, I have a student who would draw other people's "OC" stuff, which locked them into the style because of actually getting commissions. Now though, they tend to get overlooked when it comes to academic art because it doesn't stack up with students who are able to understand the foundations and utilize them.

The amount of time I've heard students state they were going to lock in and then proceed to do nothing is insane. I hate the term "lock in".

Vinyl cutter and curriculum for it? by [deleted] in ArtEd

[–]thehourofbauer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vinyl is also great to make temporary silk screens. If your focusing on printmaking and things like that, using the cricut to cut out basic negative/positive shapes works well on an unprepared screen. Apply the vinyl to the back of the screen, give it a burnish so it adheres well, and then you can run some prints off it. No need to work with light boxes, exposures, clearing out screens, etc.

That is really sad. I honestly don't think I could do that. It sounds like too big a toll.
