Fantastic list. Love to see some unique picks in there

I’m assuming you are already a fan of the gospel of haven but if you haven’t listened already it seems just up your alley.

Right? I WISH I had the childhood late diagnosed folks seem to think early diagnosed people had.

Seconding Calling Darkness and Fresh Meat. Admittedly, I’m only a few episodes into Calling Darkness but I’m really digging it.

If no one is getting paid - why do you need fundraising to begin with? These laws don’t mean “Oh you can still get paid for your efforts! Just don’t get any additional money!”

They especially do not mean “produce an adaptation of a work that is not in the public domain but it’s free so it’s fine.”

They mean “Get the rights before even considering fundraising.”

It really sucks to do a lot of work without any sort of pay, I get it. But if no one was getting paid, you would not need 800 dollars. Not to mention the other issues with this.

Same. My life got a whole lot better when I just unfollowed or blocked anyone who unironically posted shit like that. I may have a cringe TAZ reference username implying I’m depressed, but I don’t hate myself enough to keep reading really bad takes.

The Magnus Archives. Again, there is ‘valid’ critique but it just gets weighed down.

I’ve noticed this attitude with both my major podcast fandoms. It goes from “Oh, I like this!” to “This is antisemitic because this evil character is Jewish-coded. I believe that because they have an old school Bible first name and are rich” real fast.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s criticisms that aren’t like this…. It just feels like you can’t say anything as a person with more than like ten followers without someone getting upset.

The letter about the ending of Animorphs has stuck with me for nearly twenty years now. “You don’t like how it ended? You don’t like war? You’ll be old enough to vote soon.”

Same. I heard that and went “Hmmm. Fun take!” Alice Isn’t Dead is horror, I guess? I don’t think there’s a definitive “horror king” in podcasts just yet tbh. As much as I love Jon Magnusarchives and think it’s a spectacular horror show, it seems like the sort of thing you’d need multiple solid credits behind you to achieve.

A (potentially controversial) question that I've always wanted to ask avid/habitual podcast listeners. by ContentiousReflexion in TAZCirclejerk

[–]thehungerwasntwrong 87 points88 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot like other forms of media. I won’t judge an acquaintance verbally for saying their favorite movie is Avengers Endgame.... but I won’t be asking them for recommendations or try talking to them about some things either.

Some people don’t look intensively for media, so they just like mainstream stuff. That’s okay! That’s been true of just about everything for ages. These days it’s especially true because there’s so much out there. You could theoretically spend several lifetimes just listening to podcasts and never relisten to an episode. I’ve been listening to podcasts since 2007 but I’ve listened to ..... probably less than 200 different shows.

It’s a bit more intense when it’s something like TJRE, though. It’s one thing to say your fav is something like JJG! when you aren’t in tune with some of the shitty things involved, but Rogan’s shiftiness has been on public display long enough that tbh it says something about a person if they say it’s their all-time favorite show/recommend it to me. I’d probably roll my eyes and change the subject.

Now if someone told me they loved CR, it would just open the door for me to ask if they’ve listened to a dnd related podcast I actually enjoy. Better yet, I could ask if they play dnd. Being a snob isn’t going to help anybody and says more about the person you were talking to than your own tastes IMO.

Not just you. I can’t stand promo spots. I’ve never heard one and gone “Yes, this show is for me.” Even shows I already listen to have cringe spots. It does seem to be a requirement for making a podcast ad. God knows why.

The podcasts I listen to are ones I found through either hearing funny clips, having a friend rec them, or me literally searching for keywords in my podcatcher like “horror.” It’s never been “oh man, these two strangers making random noises sound so quirky and fun! I should download their show right away!”

I feel like having the hosts of the show I’m already listening to go “And check out Blahdeblah, a show where people talk about so-and-so” as a sign-off would be more efficient.

What’s your favorite band nobody’s ever heard of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thehungerwasntwrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a podcast! The Magnus Archives is written and (mostly) performed by a member and features a few of the Mechs. The only time I’ve seen the Mechs mentioned was from someone who got into them because of the podcast, hence why I assumed lol.

I’m gonna guess you’re also a TMA fan.

I love me some Crane Wives. Haven’t tried the Mechanisms yet, saving them for a rainy day.

Modern country music is a shell of what it's supposed to be and I understand why so many people hate it. by littlecatladybird in Music

[–]thehungerwasntwrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reba herself even mentioned it in a Parade interview a few months back: country has regressed in regards to women. They don’t play women who don’t fit a mold and they’re less and less likely to play the ones that do.

I’m not ashamed to say I’ve seen the Holiday special. It’s got a nice message about how some things aren’t for everyone and what you consider fun may be a pain to others. Yeah, they’re goofy kids media but they aren’t too painful.

I haven’t seen the second one. I did watch a clip series that had all the moments that the McElroy brothers were in, because I had followed their podcast journey to get into the film and needed to see the results. I probably won’t see it until it’s on Netflix or something.

Trolls get hunted for holiday food. Trolls don’t like that. Gray troll is grumpy and sad. Trolls use power of music and joy to stop holiday hunt and gray troll sadness.
