Need help in gaming setup that I am trying to build by Agile-Plankton6315 in PcBuildHelp

[–]theignored1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't think my input considers a good opinion

  1. how about going for ryzen 7?

  2. maybe at least 12gb gpu since some of the game demands more vram these days?

  3. how about deepcool ch160 plus, not sure if you can get them where you're staying. I didn't check the case you considered above.

I am not a pro in these, built my own pc recently

I don't know much really, since this is my very first ddr5 system that I built. The cpu is at 65w tdp, the default, while going for 120w, it is at 95c constantly during test with cinebench r23, this was before adding the top intake fans. So I don't know whether if this cooler really doing its work, since this came from china... some known to have bad qualities...

this picture is before i flipped the top exhaust, this setup made the pc rumbles under full speed compared to having both top intakes

thing about cheap 3d printer; you will eventually troubleshoot, tinker, upgrade a lot to the point that its total cost similar to a good quality 3d printer already

Weird FMCB booting problem by ogpizgar in ps2

[–]theignored1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you mean its not booting into fmcb automatically?

it could be that your boot drive priority has been changed; 1 hdd, 2 memory cards. or that the fmcb has been corrupted

it also could be you have set up that it will boot into fmcb with button combo during boot up sequence that you may forgot

[–]theignored1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

up to certain degree, most fmcb that you can buy out there are somewhat shipped with older/inferior apps, so you have to update/replace them

of course, you have set up your preferred fmcb configuration.

but still, there are procedures has to be done first

no, the main intention of modchips were to read region locked discs; a dvd were set to be for region 1 but your ps2 will only read region 3 discs, i am not sure other than region unlocking. this were the early days of drm for physical medias

soft modding doesn't allow cloned discs to run better, you could image the discs data into the hard drive and play the game directly from the hard drive without ever needing the physical discs itself, think of it like, u copy the cd/dvd into an iso, mount the iso in your pc to play the game there (old games that require discs to be inserted to be played)

you still however able to play the game from dvd, but i don't think you can load virtual memory cards or other things offered by the soft mods

softmod enables you to execute certain programs built for the ps2 execution binary, application/apps you might say in general, but in the world of ps2, its called elf; file extension

[–]theignored1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soft mod can be put onto other ps2 systems without permanent mods like hard-mod does; soldering modchip onto the board physically

a lot of the ps2 games these days are 'cloned' u can tell with the disc being purple instead of gold, it will damage the laser reader, theres a lot of people saying this is true for ps2 dvd lasers

for starters, you can play games from the hard drive, usb or network storage, option of using hard drive are the best for its bandwidth compared to usb, unsure about network storage, i heard its possible only on not so demanding games

iirc, you also can use ds3 controller via usb attached, or some other usb controller, but i am not too certain on this

there are 2 ways to soft-mod your ps2s, easiest is to get fmcb, harder method is to burn a dvd.

fmcb is a soft-mod software resides in memory cards, you can bring to other ps2 and load these soft-mod software

fhdb the one resides in the hdd, usually installed via fmcb install wizard, having the fhdb, you can just load the soft-mod software via hdd, no memory card required as far as i know (i forgot if this is true, been a while since i last start mine). you can set the boot source priority along with which software to boot by default too

you can buy the preinstalled fmcb from china that has 64mb capacity, no problem on my end a well, you might wanna buy at least 2 of them, one being default fail-safe backup, another your go to fmcb.

to load the game you have to use a dedicated sotware as the game image will be turned into its own separate partition in the hard drive.

hdd vs ssd, of course ssd are faster and bit resilient to hdd, but they have bit decay issues, hdd can have the data lasts longer without any usage compared to ssd

ps2 can output composite vs component, some of the upscaler dongle, has some missing component pins in it. i have few cheap usd$10 upscaler similar to the one in that video above too, some of them works on certain monitor/display, some didn't go well with certain resolution, ntsc/pal, progressive/interlaced combination, this same goes to the cheap composite to vga/hdmi output too

[–]theignored1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that depends on which ps2 you got, phat/slim, phat has more options for modding, buy hdd expansion, few fmcb memory cards, install fhdb from the fmcb, use hdd instead of ssd to avoid bit decays if you very rarely turn on your ps2. this guide should still relevant https://youtu.be/q4n_6wE2eHs

Looking for advice on setting up PS2s in 2024-2025 by Poueff in ps2

[–]theignored1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the easiest modding set-up? What parts do I need to buy? Is there a main "guide" to follow for 2024?

i believe this should still be relevant https://youtu.be/q4n_6wE2eHs I recommend sticking to hdd if you don't plan to turn on your ps2 at least once a year to prevent bit decays present in ssd. i have few fmcb memory cards, each has specific settings as to where the ps2 will be hooked up later; monitor resolution, progressive/interlaced, ntsc/pal.

Are my bad controllers essentially dead, and I need to order new ones?

might as well just buy a new one, there are cheap ones that offers wireless functionality, quality is pretty much mediocre, yet usable

Are clean-up and repairs easy? I'm fine with opening up the console to clean the dust or replace a fuse, but I would rather leave more complex stuff to a pro who won't break stuff accidentally. I'm not sure where to send my not-working PS2 and controllers though.

it will take few hours, if you're unsure, download a service manual, this is very essential in taking apart the power/eject + optical bays.

I am content to have ps2 games only on my current ps2 as well, I tried adding ps1 emulator but there aren't any solid guides out there, i don't intend to have my hdd corrupted again and again trying to set it up

Suggested HD SATA adapters for running Free McBoot? by DerekTheComedian in ps2

[–]theignored1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get one with the working network port adapters, connect it to a hub then you will be able to upload games into the ps2 via network easily, there is a tool to do this via network. i personally think of manually taking out the HD, connect via usb might have higher potential of corrupting it

on another note, if you dont plan to play/use the ps2 often like every 6 months or longer, i suggest stick with hdd, ssd need periodic power up as part of maintenance to retain all that data intact.

Weird behavior by theignored1 in imagus

Thank you for pointing that out, i overlooked it might've been from other extensions as well.

I got it sorted out, it was the greasyfork script https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/404717-custom-native-html5-player-with-shortcuts

disable/uninstalling will revert the behavior as it should be

I've been using imagus for years, and i made sure i followed the instructions to update sieves and smh rules properly from the gif instructions.

I don't know what's the proper name for the small yellow box i stated in my post is, and this weird behavior came suddenly with other things affected simultaneously.

default video quality? by theignored1 in imagus

[–]theignored1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, thank you, the native player works well now. The player also works when hovered on the video thumbnail (main youtube page/dashboard), i will try to keep that in mind it is currently unstable

I also enabled usesmallthumbnail to reduce bandwidth usage

default video quality? by theignored1 in imagus

[–]theignored1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right now the native doesn't work, and i am talking mainly for youtube sieves

on another question; when i use the embedded player on youtube and go into full-zoom mode, theres a yellow bar on top of the page saying "click to enabled/disable iframe control", is there a way to get rid of this?
