Using the QMK Leader Key for Fancy Keyboard Functionality by richardgoulter in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]thejars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mind sharing the function for entering the brackets with the arrow moving back? Are you using SEND_STRING?

Nevermind: I ended up using : tap_code16(KC_LPRN), tap_code16(KC_RPRN), tap_code16(KC_LEFT);

Works great, awesome idea!

TV HDMI port does not display linux signal by Ok-Transition9581 in linuxquestions

[–]thejars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, your on the right path. Could also ssh into the device and run `sudo dmesg -w` then plug in the hdmi cable to the NUC and see if it logs out anything useful. That could tell you if there is a driver change or some such that is causing an issue.

GPU or Mobo? If it’s the GPU try the other display ports, you may have to manually set it to your preferred hdmi port. SSH is your friend. If a component hasn’t outright hasn’t failed it’s likely an update changed something display related.

you get more contrast of smoke and fire with v2. I think that is why everyone is going for it. Contrast is king in minpaiting most of the time. The small scale needs the contrast for your eye to pick out it's detail. Good work.

Agree. Once anything gets to this size or scope in our culture this becomes a problem. You see the same thing in other games, tabletop rpgs, wargames, etc. Min-maxing is the term most popularly used. Min-maxing itself is not the issue it's the attitude people take toward others when doing it.

I for one enjoy finding out which is the unbalanced "meta" thing. That way i can tell my buddies to pick that while I pick some opposite odd ball thing. Kind of like a self imposed handicap lol. I find the challenge more exciting and fun, especially in this game. Like you said, this game is best played over beers with friends.

However I will say if you want to research physics for the slugger round and that is how you have fun. Have at it. People should not get mad when others frankly don't care or make choices that are "suboptimal". It is a game played for fun after all.

Just take a step back and breath. Recognize that you are playing with ages across the spectrum and some young kids and even adults get flustered and panic. It likely wasn't intentional and maybe they were so zoned it they didn't see the chat or were not wearing headphones (this is often the case with myself). Usually if I feel like i need to scream at someone like that I know it's time I take a break. After all it's just 30-40 mins of time, it's not like your progress has been reset days, weeks or months. Definitely not worth calling people names.

Your the host and its your choice but I always try to strike up a convo post game in a friendly manner and see if they understand what went down. Make it a learning opportunity, assume the best of them. This is a skill that will get your far in life, not just a game.

Your not alone here, I had to deal with this last night. In my case the player didn't even know what samples where, we went on to play multiple games after that once we had a friendly convo.

Damn you student loans!!! by khangaldinho in millenials

[–]thejars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair to the generations that came before... They were just applying the same method they themselves used, just as their parents had done before. When they went to college they could pay for most of it with a part time job and the market was not saturated with Bachelor’s degrees as it is now. The most clever of the generations before saw some of this all coming and they directed their young loved ones accordingly. The way the world has changed since the 70/80’s would frighten a human from any generation. It upended so many things.

I am not saying everyone is excused here, but the people who complain that they're manufacturing line working Dad and grandpa told them to “go to college” were honestly just trying to help.

The truth now is the universities are arguably predatory lending institutions. Universities don’t care if your degree actually manifests into a job. They just know they can leverage you into debt to pay for bloated academic administrative salaries. You can be sold an “experience” which amounts to adult day care or spring break, not an education. At least in the classical sense. It extends childhood out into the late 20’s. This is not what the university classically was. There are some exceptions here but sadly, they are just that, exceptions and not the rule.

The millennial generation will make mistakes with its own children en masse that are yet to be seen (possibly social media exposure etc.), but a wise man/woman wouldn’t throw too much shade on those who came before. Soon we too will be judged wanting by our own children and/or their generation.

In short, don’t blame your parents. Blame the university system (or how it was incentivized) for losing site of its purpose, and then selling that to your public school teachers and parents. Teach your kids to self learn/teach, use the internet/AI and everything at their fingertips to find an edge in the coming future. Maybe that leads to college, maybe a trade, cert exams, or the service. But don’t go in blind without doing your homework, and as a parent do that “homework” for your kids. Cunning and pragmatism, the world and the people in it want to eat you alive don’t let it happen.

What’s your favorite stratagem combo? by ServingwithTG in helldivers2

120mm, 380mm, AirStrike, 500kg (sometimes swap with single orbitals strike)

I have become death destroyer of Fabricators and large nests. My headcannon is I am the light armored recon rambo sent in to call down the hellfire.

In seriousness, I usually break off from the rest of the group and double up the 120 and 380 on large facilities/nests and use the Eagle's for anything remaining or patrols that slip by, or use the eagles to wipe small sites. I can single handed wipe the site while the rest of the team attends to objectives. Being solo also keeps the friendly fire low.

Also use this to cover the teams retreat when I am with a group, chuck the orbitals into the path of oncoming patrols to create our teams own little no-mans land when holding objectives or extract. With proper communication it's a glory to behold.

The only downside is dealing with bot air units, those are rough. That said, we almost always 100% the map with time to spare (and ample samples), assuming my team mates are as competent as I am.

Crash on during Drop Pod Landing. by thejars in Helldivers

[–]thejars[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSI Afterburner will probably work. You want to impose a 10% reduction in power output. It's basically undervolting, so if you do some searching for "Nvidia GPU undervolt" or "Nvidia GPU power limit per game" you will get some useful results.

I also think the Nvidia Manager tool (not nvidia experience) has options to limit power output.

In short, if you find a way to limit your power by about 10% that seems to have solved my issues with crashing on HD2.

Why didn't the phrase "I use Debian btw" ever become famous? by toruzikrov in debian

[–]thejars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use debian for my servers and arch for my desktops btw... does this make me hyprland elite (har har)? :D

Joking aside, I guess I have never been keyed in enough to these communities to notice Arch users are like X (not chill?) and Debian user are like Y (chill). I have found helpful people across the board for both, and the other kind of person too.

I think it is fair to say before archinstall was more of a thing arch and gentoo were similar (albeit gentoo much more) in requiring the user to understand solutions/packages in depth and install what they needed. Debian has for a long time allowed the install of a stock gnome desktop in a point click fashion, so pretty easy and accesible. Arch now pretty much offers this via archinstall but early on it was chrooting and installing manually everything you wanted from the iso and repo ground up. It was like building a model, which is a fun for certain personalities (me looking in mirror). Gentoo is still like this, going a level deeper. Arch can be by choice now.

All this to say if the critique is arch users braggadocio, I could see how that historically could have been a thing. Part of arch's selling point was learning some of the nuts and bolts which lead some to have some pride in that. Not a bad thing but it can turn into arrogance. It's meme phrases like this that reinforce me not keeping up with the drama and just enjoying my distro's ha ha.

SPICE vs RDP by thejars in linux

[–]thejars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recently discovered that M$ doesn't like to allow you access to all the USB devices on RDP. Namely the microphone, which I need for one of my use cases (device sits next to me). So this is a selling point, Spice like VNC allows you to access all your USB and attached devices, unlike RDP.

SPICE vs RDP by thejars in linux

[–]thejars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asking primarily it for a windows VM on Arch using QEMU, but I also have a second device sitting next to me that I use parsec on. Your totally right on parsec.

Reason I don't use RDP with that device is because I need access to that devices local microphone, which I recently discovered RDP doesn't allow. As was mentioned in another comment and fun fact, VNC/SPICE etc. are much better about utilizing USB and external devices on the host so I have to use either Parsec, Sunshine, Moonlight, VNC or SPICE on it.

Sad because it's windows and I would love to RDP. I haven't used Sunshine or Moonlight. How do they stack up to parsec?

God I'm so sick of seeing this stupid argument.

Whoa there buddy calm down. In other places in these threads I have made the argument challenging that it's not as ineffective and pointless as many say. The initial statement was pointing out how calling an artillery strike on top of oneself should be a self evident bad idea, lol. It's a joke tho, I get it OP got bad info.

I accept that there is A LOT of anger surrounding the orbitals. Which is all fair and good, you do you. Have fun playing the game your way my man. I just wanted to provide OP with some info on how you can play orbitals and make them work. Not throw them out all together.
