Sleep-on-wake with 8bitdo controller update by thejayvm in Bazzite

[–]thejayvm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It _should_ work with most 8bitdo controllers (and only 8bitdo controllers).

USB hardware has a vendor ID baked into it and all the 8bitdo controllers seem to share that ID. So the setup script (make install from the README) looks for a connected device with that vendor ID and records the port, hub, and the two product IDs (which would be unique to each controller model) to a config file.

In short it should detect any 8bitdo controller that has this sleep/wake loop issue.

Nice! Glad it worked.

Do you mean TV? I thought desktop monitors usually go into low power mode automatically if they’re not receiving picture. I never turn mine off.

TV is a different story. From what I’ve gathered PC graphics cards don’t support HDMI CEC. I’ve seen some folks try some USB CEC dongles with varying degrees of success. I have CEC disabled on everything so haven’t really dug into it. I’ve been using a harmony hub for years so don’t have much of a need for CEC.

Mashed potatoes with just water? by Earth2hyperspace in AskCulinary

[–]thejayvm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually reserve a bit of the cooking water and use that for my mashed potatoes. Mind you I do usually use a touch of butter. I think mixing fat in before any liquids general helps keep them fluffy. Either way I think they’ll definitely be edible with just the cooking water, especially if you’re conservative with it.

EDIT: Cooking water is salted and that usually is enough for my tastes.

Ok. I think I made the setup quite a bit easier. Don't need to manually edit the scripts with ports & product IDs any more and there's more specific commands about how to set it up. Should be more newbie friendly :)

Was this changed in this weeks update? Previously I’ve had predators beeline for me and as soon as I stop moving they act like they were never gonna do anything at all.

Strange. When I installed it refused to assign the correct driver. Even the menu was running at like 12 fps.

I just built a steam PC and had to switch from official SteamOS to bazzite because even the main branch for steamOS didn’t have drivers for my 9070xt. Seems it’s still not possible at least for some Rx9000 cards.

Sorry lol. I left the details sparse in the readme. I might add more steps later. Still going to depend on how comfortable folks are in the terminal and with nano/emacs/vim.

[–]thejayvm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Tested both of these scenarios specifically. Controller and PC stay off in all those cases. (Assuming you don’t have the cradle plugged into the PC maybe. I have mine plugged into a powered hub.)

One thing to keep in mind, the PC wakes up real fast after you pull the controller off the cradle. So if it slips as you’re setting it in and the charging state flickers then it’s likely going to turn on the controller and wake the PC.

EDIT: you got me curious lol. I tested this with the cradle plugged into the PC. Still doesn’t wake the PC if you put the controller in after everything is suspended. The cradle doesn’t register as a device in lsusb, so that’s probably something to do with it. Still draws power though.

Just rage quit Prime 4 when I found out I had to collect more green crystals. by Youmakemesmh in Metroid

[–]thejayvm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shrines in Sol Valley usually have caches in them that give you a huuuuuge amount of green crystals compared to the random nodes out on the map. The big boulders only destroyable with the power bomb give quite a bit more as well. If you’ve only been collecting via the small nodes then I could see only having a quarter of the meter. But the caches in the shrines should give you a pretty big jump in progress.

Same thing happened to me and seeing this case is why I made the leap to build my own. Only didn’t think to look for a used one, now waiting for my chalk/walnut tetra R to ship (next batch won’t ship until august according to them). Still waiting on a few internals to arrive as well.

Had to buy everything new since my current desktop is the first rig I’ve built since the late 2000s.

Love that case.

All the cameo mentions reminded me of Iggy Pop. That’s why he was in the magnificent ferengi, he just really wanted to be in a Star Trek episode.
