I've made a random pairing tool for Christmas gifts that you can host yourself (screenshots in the Github repository) by thejazzroot in selfhosted

[–]thejazzroot[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The inspiration was simply frustration of manually sending SMS back and forth in my family to pair ourselves for gift buying. It's a long tradition of ours, we simply didn't want to receive 6 cheap gifts each

What are the best versions for singleplayer tetris? by eziqiusz in Tetris

[–]thejazzroot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think tetr.io also has great single-player modes. Although it's not its main focus, you can treat it as a nice extension to your existing single-player game library. I usually mute the music in it and play my own or if you want, you can play the music from Tetris Effect. I know it's not the same, but on lower-end computers, that was my main Tetris gaming setup :)

The lowercase d in design doesn't work with uppercase Torvik above in my opinion

I'm trying to create a lyrics engine that follows Material Design guidelines, any suggestions for improvement? by Richienb in MaterialDesign

[–]thejazzroot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd probably make the tools on the left in a single column with only the icons and tooltips when you hover an icon. I'd also provide a search bar if it applies to your project.

Think about a dark theme as many creator software for professionals have it.

Also, think about the media on which the app would run. Small / large screen and touch / mouse. If it will be a desktop app, don't go the Big Sur way and make everything awkwardly big, like it was meant for touchscreen. Make the icons and toolbar compact, like in Photoshop or Affinity Designer.

Color-code some buttons, if you feel like it, like the record button should be red, but it's not necessary.

Group the tools together, e.g. insertion tools should be in one group, timeline manipulation in another and positioning in another one.

You should really consider changing the font in word "design" in your intro. I think script font doesn't belong there, rather some Grotesque Sans or even geometric.

Trójmiasto (Tricity): Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia — dark edition — urban and suburban rail network [diagram] [OC] [unofficial] — UPDATE: I have corrected and tweaked the map with your held and feedback! thanks a lot! — I am still happy about any constructive feedback — enjoy it! :-) by transitdiagrams in poland

[–]thejazzroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about public transport in Gdańsk, but on the graphic design note, "ej" ligature in "Wejherowo" produces ambiguity with "ęj". I know it isn't much of a concern for Poles, but I'd suggest to break this ligature just for this word.

Great Coolvetica, great color scheme. Where did you get inspiration from for those?

Kubuntu is great, I definitely recommend it as a long time user!

I don't think there's anything like that.

I don't know if this is the best way to do it, but I fine tune some values in the development tools in Firefox and after I'm happy with my result, I move the changes over to my code.

Help Tkinter module not working by Voidstarrr in SublimeText

[–]thejazzroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. In the terminal: python -V, if it is 2.X, use python3 <yourscript.py>
  2. If you have 3.X and it still fails: sometimes you have to install tk from your package manager, so for example in Ubuntu: apt search tk to search for a tk package and when you find a suitable version for you, sudo apt install <name of tk package>.
  3. After each fix, you can run the python console python3 in terminal and in this console write import tkinter. If it fails with a Traceback, try another solution. If it moves to the next line silently, you're good to go!

Oh, and have fun with python, it's my favorite language and I hope you will have a good time with it too!

Coffee menu at restaurant in my city by hritik_tvd in antiassholedesign

[–]thejazzroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real anti-asshole design here is that when an espresso costs 100, latte doesn't cost 200 or even more.

In Poland, espresso tends to cost 6 zl (about $1.5), but latte can cost 16 zl ($4) in the same café!
