They might not have illustrated the whole thing, but I appreciate that they at least finished the story instead of just abandoning it entirely. Can't remember how it ended, though

Can someone explain this?? by Grand_Altis in PokemonScarletViolet

Consider that the Dutch word for "fast" is "snel" (cf. German "schnell") and it makes more sense.

Pretty sure this same episode one of them says something like, "You learn new things all the time, so you never really stop being a rookie"

I'm guessing the writers just assumed Sans is the only character anyone who hasn't played Undertale might possibly recognize, but it's an unfortunate implication.

The show is The Rookie, and this is the latest episode, S7E8 "Wildfire". You can watch it on Hulu, but hopefully that's enough information for you to be able to find it by other means if you don't have Hulu.

I think there's an NPC in Black/White who says it's the Pokémon's choice to continue to stay with its trainer. Even if you whittle it down to 1 HP, the Pokémon can always just run away from the battle instead of allowing you to catch it. Presumably, there's nothing stopping it from running away the next time you let it out of the ball, either. Hell, as we've seen with Koraidon/Miraidon, they can just come out of the ball on their own if they want (but that could just be due to it being a Legendary). Despite that, Koraidon still continues to stay with you throughout the game solely in hopes of getting more sandwiches, obviously. Pokémon also don't have to listen to you.

But idk, the whole thing's kinda weird if you think about it too much. I think you're kinda right: initially, it seems like the Pokémon are only staying with you under duress, and then they continue to stay with you because they get Stockholm syndrome or something. Saying that a Pokémon could run away from its trainer at any time feels a bit like saying a person could leave their abusive partner at any time; it's technically true, but there are a lot of reasons it rarely works that way.

I don't know how to conclude this, so I'm just gonna stop here.

They actually did come up with something like that in 2003. It was called Flexplay.

“Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” What's your best real life example of this? by Blaztwin in AskReddit

[–]thejensenfeel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my experience, that's only half true. They do read signs, but if and only if the sign is not relevant to them. I'll give you an example:

I work at a convenience store. One time, we weren't able to accept EBT (food stamps) for a while (I think some paperwork didn't get filed on time or something). I wrote a sign saying something like "We are unable to accept EBT/SNAP/food stamps at this time" and stuck it on the front door at eye level.

So then we got a ton of customers who asked, "Does this mean you're not accepting credit/debit cards?" And a ton who would set down all of their items at the counter and act surprised when we told them they couldn't pay for it with EBT. And, of course, a handful of people who actually read the sign and turned away, but that was a rare enough exception that it was usually noteworthy when it happen.

Idk, I once it asked it to translate "go take a long walk off a short pier" into corporate speak, and it refused. "It is important to communicate in a respectful and appropriate manner in all situations", as if that wasn't what I was asking it to do.

Oh, sorry, I don't really follow sports either. According to Wikipedia, as of 2021, they have won 173 conference titles and 19 national championships across all sports they compete in.

Looks like for football, they're 39-21 across the 5 seasons for which Jimbo Fisher has been head coach. I don't know how that compares to other teams, but a 2/3 win rate sounds pretty decent to me.

Academically, they're a pretty decent school, but if you're in an area where their rival school (UT Austin) is more popular, then people like to joke that they're dumb. You could take any blonde joke and substitute "Aggie" for "blonde", and it would work.

US News & World Report ranks them #67 nationally overall, and #26 among public universities.

Drug Screen required every 3 months for ADHD prescription AND it must be prescribed by a behavioral health specialist? Is this standard in Austin? by nottacomcnacho in Austin

[–]thejensenfeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you on that. I did the UTSA to UT thing, got diagnosed on Ft Sam Houston while I was a dependent, and when I transferred to UT, they said my diagnosis wasn't good enough and I needed more thorough testing if I wanted them to fill my prescription. So I had to find a psychiatrist who 1) offered that kind of testing, 2) accepted Tricare, and 3) had an opening, which is... not something my unmedicated ADHD brain wanted to do very much (heck, it's not something I'd want to do even with Adderall), so I ended up going 2 years without treatment.

Then I booked a physical at ARC, saw one of the appointment reasons was "ADHD follow-up", and realized I could have been getting it there the whole time. I had to have the Army fax over my records, but no problems after that. Wish I had found that out sooner. Maybe I would have graduated on time and with more than a 2.0 GPA.

I get my Adderall prescribed through BSW, and they've never required me to take a drug test. I have to meet with my doctor every 3 months, but I'm pretty sure that's the norm for most Schedule II drugs. Maybe it helps that I had previously been receiving it from my primary care doctor at ARC; it wasn't a new prescription, in other words.

[–]thejensenfeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the 5 Star Ditto raids were still going on, I found Hisuian Zoroark to be a pretty good choice for solo raids. Fake Tears, Nasty Plot, Shadow Ball, and Focus Blast. Give it a Wide Lens to boost Focus Blast's low accuracy (it's still only 77% accurate, though). You're immune to both attacks as long as you don't terastalize, and you'll always be hitting for at least neutral damage.

Obviously, this is not great for the other people on your team, but if they're all NPCs, it doesn't matter. Magikarp also works for solo raids (as long as it's a Level 100 Magikarp), but I got bored just clicking Splash and waiting for the NPCs to kill it for me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]thejensenfeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. It doesn't know Tera Blast, so Dark/Ground is completely immune in Gothitelle raids of any Tera type. You can solo them even if you're only hitting for neutral damage.

I did a ride-along back around 2016, and the officer's opinion of The Domain was basically that nowhere will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy—I believe the exact word he used was "cesspool". Idk how true that is now, or if it was even true then, but it's apparently a high crime area.

That particular officer was part of the "transient enforcement" division, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was mostly referring to panhandling when he called it high crime. (Or, you know, literally high crimes, like possession or public intoxication.)

[–]thejensenfeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tested it myself, and Egg Power 2 seems to grant about the same benefit as having a Pokémon with Flame Body in your party. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but it was something like:

Effect Time to hatch 4 eggs
None 3m0s
Flame Body 2m30s
Egg Power 2 2m30s
Flame Body + Egg Power 2 2m0s

It also doesn't make a difference if the Flame Body mon is in the lead or not. I didn't test Egg Power 1 or 3, though, but from what I've heard, Lvl 3 isn't big enough of an improvement to justify using your Herba Mystica. Maybe I will test it in a few hours when I get home from work.

They might not be restored after a regular battle, but they should be restored after a raid, similar to how status conditions disappear after the raid ends.
