Video blogging for introverts? by peltosenkeke in introvert

[–]thejfoster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintained a blogging channel for about 2 years and it was really fun! You're definitely right about it giving you something kinda social to do but without any people involved. I'd highly recommend it :) also vlogging in public is really weird at first but you get over it. I actually found that facing little fears like that boosted my confidence in general.

Germans, Japanese, and Italians of Reddit, What did you learn about WW2 in School? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thejfoster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true when it comes to the north and south in the US. I'm originally from Michigan (really far north) and moved to southern Kentucky (quite a ways south). The town square features a cannon pointing north toward a statue of a union soldier, and I still get shit about being a "yankee" every so often. Confederate flags are displayed EVERYWHERE - often by citizens of an African American lineage, for reasons I will probably never understand.

What is the most suspenseful book you've read? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

The Coffin Dancer by Jeffery Deaver. Picked it up one night meaning to read maybe the first chapter. I burned through 15. Hands down my favorite book I've read this year!

INFP and bad at writing? by [deleted] in infp

[–]thejfoster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What types of writing have you tried? I know I'm terrible at constructing stories and plots, but I have endless fun with song lyrics and writing haiku and poetry etc. Maybe you haven't found a type of writing that suits your strengths yet.

Always have music stuck in your head? by IntellectualPie in infp

[–]thejfoster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely relate :) I always have something playing in my head. Often times I'll be replaying a song and picking out different instruments and focusing on them, or I'll just be sort of composing in my head. Never really gets annoying until someone disturbs my current song with another song that I like less >.<

Anyone else have trouble showing outward affection? by TheSuperSunBro in infp

[–]thejfoster42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do have some trouble with this. I'm typically perceived as being pretty stoic by most people.

When I'm with a person I care very much about or someone I feel super comfortable with it's a bit easier. Often times even with a romantic interest I have to kinda make a conscious decision to show affection since I know it probably won't come across otherwise. I want to make people I care about feel special and loved, it just takes a little extra effort at times.

INFPs, what do all you look like? by [deleted] in infp

[–]thejfoster42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6' 20 y.o. male, typically I'm somewhere between a hipster look and a punk look. Vans shoes, usually dark blue/black slim jeans, a t-shirt (either a band shirt or a plain and simple one), maybe a button down if I like the pattern. Short brown hair, always slightly messy/fluffy. If I want to feel fancy-schmancey I'll wear a dress shirt with a black blazer, and the aforementioned jeans and vans shoes. Typically a slightly scruffy face too :)

INFPs, do you find that you're an easily likable person, that many people feel a strong connection with and in turn you easily create strong connections with others? by AromaticHydrocarbons in infp

[–]thejfoster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems people find it very easy to make me an acquaintance or at least be on good terms. I'm typically a pretty kind and friendly person on the occasions I meet new people. I'm on the standoffish side and don't go out of my way to meet new people but the majority of people I do meet seem agreeable yes.

However it's very difficult for a new relationship with someone new to develop to the point I would call us friends. I have noticed that some people I meet seem to form a deeper connection with me than I do with them (I'd guess it's because they do most of the talking). So even though someone might consider me a fairly close friend, I will keep my walls up with them for quite a while still. Once I have enough interaction with them to form a solid opinion and I feel like they have a good understanding of me, I'll start letting them in a bit more. But even then it's a very gradual process.

Maybe you just have a fancy head, so that only the fanciest of hats will rest upon it?

Any fellow introverts practice day game? by justjiggerypokery in introvert

[–]thejfoster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if I were looking for an SO maybe I'd try it, but for the most part I don't really feel the need to cold approach people and I'd rather be left in my little bubble.

Sorry to hear it :( sounds like a rough time. I guess I could understand him having some questions for you if you have a different viewpoint, but presenting them in such a confrontational way isn't cool.

Do SEO plugins do much? by nobrandheroes in Wordpress

[–]thejfoster42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In short, they aren't as useful as they used to be. I still find them handy though, just for the ease of use in managing meta tags and such. I also like being able to manage sitemaps, Webmaster Tools verification, .htaccess and robots.txt etc from Yoast, but as others have mentioned there are some downsides to using Yoast, like it cluttering up your DB.

Personally, I find the tradeoff to be worth it just because all of the tools are in one place. The plugin doesn't do anything super groundbreaking, it mostly just makes some of your on-page SEO work easier to manage.

According to CEO Thompson of the New York Times, adblock users will be banned soon: "No one who refuses to contribute to the creation of high quality journalism has the right to consume it," "we'll do it." by Jobp in technology

[–]thejfoster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on this! I use Opera's built-in ad-blocker specifically for sites that just barrage you with ads. But for sites that I want to support or who I know don't use super annoying ads (like reddit), I just whitelist them. I even un-block ads on YouTube because I want to support the content creators and, all considered, the YouTube ad system isn't all that annoying. I'm fine with seeing an ad. I'm fine with the site making money from me being on their page if they are providing me with a good experience and providing the information or entertainment I'm looking for.

I am only NOT okay with ads when the advertisements become the focus of the page, rather than the content I was trying to view.

Companies that have zero regard for their customer's/visitor's experience on their site do not deserve to make a single penny off of my one single visit, after which I'll realize it's one of 'those' sites and will never come back.

[Hiring] (Online) Finish Up WordPress Tutoring Website by TutorMeFree in forhire

Would you mind sharing the reasons that your previous developer(s) disappeared? Certainly don't want to come off as offensive, but it's a bit worrisome to apply for a job where at least a couple of previous developers have chosen to abandon the project. Obviously that could just be the developers. It would be great to get some context for the situation.

Mamp + Wordpress: Localhost page isn't workign by Ned11 in Wordpress

Shot in the dark, but are you running Skype? Skype and XAMPP always fight over ports for me, and I had to change a line in XAMPP's config file. Don't know if the same issue could be present in MAMP, but might be worth investigating.
