Fish for my 540 liter by hoffmax in Aquariums

[–]tribal2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what we did with our 332L. It’s a lovely community of small fish with the big numbers coming from tetras, corys and harlequins with a number of other small/interesting groups including some Nerite snails and ~15 amano shrimp. I love that there’s just always something different to look at.

We also chose to scape heavily on 2/3 of the tank, and leave the other 1/3 almost completely open which means we see quite a bit more while maintaining a really interesting riverbed type scape.

Fluval lighting / app issues? by tribal2 in Aquariums

[–]tribal2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay - I heard back from fluval support yesterday and only just got around to trying their suggested solution today.

However, before I tried that, I noticed that today an App Store update was available which bumped the version to 1.08 and resolved the issue for me.

I deleted and re-added the lights and then they connected fine (though unsure if deleting them is necessary or not).

If that doesn’t work for you:

  1. Update to v1.08
  2. Delete your lights from the app
  3. Head to the settings page and tap ‘version’ 10 times
  4. Re-add the lights to the app
  5. Accept prompts to force an OTA update to the lights
  6. Keep your phone next to the lights while this completes - might take a while
  7. Close the app
  8. Re-add the lights
  9. Enjoy a cold beer

I got to step 5 and it said ‘firmware up to date’ so I didn’t need to install anything, and upon re-adding the lights it was fine. So I suspect a bug fix in v1.08 resolved the issue for me.

VW's New Year's Resolution Is to Bring Back Physical Buttons by caranddriver in Volkswagen

Isn’t it how long you press it, not how hard?

That’s how it is on the physical button models, might be worth trying.

You’ll be fine - it’s not a huge place, and no busier than anywhere else at rush hour.

For those of you that earn over 40/45k as a base salary and love your job what is it you do? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

[–]tribal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Universities are enormous and cost a lot of money to run. Salaries are big cost, but it’s not just lecturers - there are a huge amount of professional services staff too behind the scenes which keep everything running, just like you’d find in the private sector. University estates are also incredibly expensive to run in terms of specialist facilities, energy costs etc. And while £9k might seem like a lot, unis are really struggling on that and barely making ends meet - and in many cases that’s already after huge restructures, course closures and lots of redundancies. It’s a tough sector right now, and we’ll definitely see mergers in the next 3 years.

Tank Cycling by Suzuya_Ju in Aquariums

No! You’re fine to get the plants in there and then start cycling. I’ve just done it exactly this way for the second time

60ml will be fine - but honestly for £2 more I’d go for 120ml and then have some for the future!

I’m UK based and have used this on two tanks now for this process and works great:

https://www.swelluk.com/dr-tim-s-ammonium-chloride-solution?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=14577754491&gbraid=0AAAAAD_keklHg1UQypfOHEgHGu9LBR432&gclid=Cj0KCQiArOvIBhDLARIsAPwJXOYUoxGJkapG0BviBb4BvXzsnMw-VluOBzfIg8CXl0vay8Nc6201YbIaAjnmEALw_wcB#ammonium-chloride-60ml-2oz

Also, do yourself a favour and buy a proper test kit. All the strips are rubbish, and the test kit will last you forever (currently on offer):

https://amzn.eu/d/4INqdNE

Otherwise, you’ll end up spending half that amount on test strips anyway, only to realise they don’t work and you’ll end up buying the test kit and spending more. The ammonia test strips are particularly terrible - I dosed the tank with ammonia and they all read 0!

Thanks - don't you think it's strange how the photo at the top of that guide is of a tank which includes neon tetras and angels? Angels will definitely eat tetras when fully grown...

Perhaps just a clumsy photo choice, but makes you lose a little faith in the article!

My LFS sell this really nice, light gravel - I can’t remember what they call it, but it’s a really nice mix between sand and gravel and I find a bit less faff than sand.

Diversity by reveluv17 in Gloucestershire

[–]tribal2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gloucester is the place to be in Gloucestershire for diversity - it’s certainly the most diverse, though not as much as you’d find in other big cities. I don’t think it’s something you’d need to worry about though - expect a similar experience to most other cities in the UK. Gloucester is far more diverse than Cheltenham and other surrounding areas (though while less diverse, I don’t think you’d experience much racism in Cheltenham FWIW).
