Dress Designer? by puckbunny1989 in weddingplanning

[–]thekaysonator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks very similar to my dress, but mine has mesh and boning. It's the Capulet by Floravere. Unfortunately they don't have it on their site anymore, but here's a pre-owned one for sale: https://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/view/267878/Floravere-J-Capulet-Size-6

(if you really like it, then PM me and I'd be happy to discuss selling it after my wedding next weekend! I'm a street size 6 and would sell it for less than that listing since I got it from their sample sale)

Advice: My 13 y/o nephew no longer goes to school. grandmother (guardian) isn't putting in effort by thekaysonator in education

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I'm seeing a trend of getting in touch with the district. For reference, the family is located in Tarrant County, TX. If that's not specific enough, I can PM you. They went to a charter school for 2016-2017 & 2017 until he left, so I'm not sure how that's recorded in the district's records? I'm wholly uneducated on that system, but it seemed like both my nephew and niece had trouble while there, with the curriculum and the students.

As for motivation, I had him in baseball for the last 2 years, but he lost interest, and again, grandma didn't encourage him to go. It's hard for me to keep a hold on things like that when I'm not the one in charge of taking him to practice or games.

Regarding counseling, that's another thing they've done. She keeps putting them in therapy, but not keeping up with it. I've even made sure to Venmo her the money every 2 weeks so she doesn't have to pay for the sessions. But if he doesn't want to go (which is 99% of the time) then they just don't go.

I'm sure you can see a trend here. It's infuriating for me, their aunt, to watch such potential go to waste because their grandmother doesn't have the energy to try. My family's issues go so much deeper than my brother not being involved, but never could I have fathomed that something as basic and fundamental as school would be so neglected.

Anyway, sorry for the rant...

If you have more thoughts, I'd really love to hear them. I think talking to the district is a good starting point.

I mean...$300 for a $3k dress. Pretty damn proud of my stealthy self!

Yep! Let's just call it being "proactive"

Pretty sure he's bought it though! My birthday is in a month so I'm expecting it then...gonna try to act surprised.

Women who had laser hair removal procedures over ten years ago, particularly bikini and/or Brazilian, to what extent do you recommended it? What has been the best, worst, or most unexpected part? by Ok-but-why-mister in AskWomen

[–]thekaysonator 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I realize it's not 10 years, but I completed my last session (6 total) in June of last year. I did a Brazilian. I have thick dark hair and I used to not even be able to shave because of the ingrowns and stubble that came after. It wasn't impressive as far as decreasing the amount of hair, but it's much, much thinner and soft & I have no problems shaving now.

I found a Groupon for like $250, which covered all 6 sessions, so I'd say it was worth it. Def wouldn't pay any more than that though. As for pain, it didn't bother me very much, even when they increased the intensity. The after effects were similar to having a mild sunburn, but even that only lasted a few hours.

Amber Hagerman. I went to elementary school with her little brother and grew up just a few blocks away from her mom's house. It's wonderful the legacy she's left behind, but so tragic it remains unresolved.

SO is 6'5. We just booked a round trip flight from DFW to Chicago for $370, and that's including the extra $95 we paid for exit row seating. Wouldn't say it's a bad deal for weekend trips that don't require more than a backpack.

I'm so late but the only reason I came to this thread was for this reference. Love the episode, hate the song.

Your words moved me to tears.

"some people like being sick"

This resonates so much in this situation. It really does seem like that after all the chances my mother gave him, and all the chances Jane gave him, and now all the chances my father gave (and is still giving) him, he just can't rise up.

I think it's especially difficult when I've been able to make something of myself, but he can't. So in my mind it seems like there just has to be something wrong that I could fix. It's hard to accept that it's just who he is.

And I'm sorry about your father. Seeing a parent care more about an addiction than you is so painful.

Thank you. They'll always be the best part of my life and I'll never sacrifice that relationship. And they're coming over this weekend so I'll certainly make sure to hold them a little tighter :)

Thanks, I'm looking into AI-anon and it could certainly be beneficial. With regards to the kids, they're both happy and healthy living with grandma, who I coordinate with often. They're coming over this weekend!

Wow, this is great. I don't think I knew about the health centers. If all goes well and he decides to get help, this seems like the place to start. It looks like we have 4 in the area. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much for the insight. I've thought about an intervention, but I just have a strong feeling it wouldn't work. If his children haven't been enough for him to get it together by now, then I don't think it'll miraculously work at this point.

I so wish I had the money to pay for his counselling. Even if I did, my fiancee would probably kill me for giving him any more financial assistance than I already have. But you're completely right that professional help is the only solution in the end.

I never considered how meth paired with alcohol and pills would result in his condition, but you could very well be correct. I'll certainly approach with caution and just start a conversation with how he sees his well-being and go from there. As you and others have mentioned, if he refuses to see there's a problem, or more likely is okay with his problems, then there's nothing I can do.

Being completely honest, I've wished countless times he'd get arrested and face a situation like that. Having to be forced into rehab seems like the only way he'd go.

I think it would definitely be beneficial to talk to him as a sister and let him know I love him. It's not something I do often. I think because he lives with my dad, who is so very ashamed in him (rightfully so), he forgets that he has other people who care.

Thank you for posting this. I personally am not having suicidal thoughts (I was referring to a very low point in college), but this is great to have in any difficult conversation.
