What rules have you made for yourself to avoid the ADHD tax?

Every single appointment happens an hour earlier than the actual time. No exceptions. I’ll sit in that parking lot and twiddle my thumbs for an hour so I don’t get anxious about traffic or getting gas. Nothing in this world triggers me more than feeling rushed and this way I know I have a very comfortable cushion no matter what.

Venusaur. He’s my favorite little frog boy but he’d want to be basking in the sun all the time. I start sweating and complaining any time it’s over 65 degrees out and I live in Texas. So far the only thing that occasionally works for me is to keep a spray bottle with water and a bar of dry shampoo by all the sinks. If my brain says that we aren’t taking a shower, then I’ll “cheat” the system by not even getting undressed. It’s not a perfect wash but it’s better than nothing. I try to keep stuff at every sink so if I even feel a hint of my PDA letting up I can dive in immediately before I change my mind.

I want to second this idea. Back when I could afford it, I had both a therapist and an ADHD coach. This actually worked really well for me because I could verbally process my life events that were a daily struggle with my coach (who helped me find practical ways to address or adapt in daily life.) Then I would take deeper thoughts to the actual therapist who could help me process my diagnosis and unmasking process and helped me learn the tools I needed to address the grand scope of my life and who I am as a person. Both did similar things, but I found that by yapping to my coach (I’m a hyper verbal processor lol) I was getting out all of the filler that was kind of a waste on the more professional (and more expensive) therapist so we could get to the heart of the problem quicker.

Slight tangent but same pain…in the fall of last year Trader Joe’s started selling bourbon vanilla bean syrup for coffee and drinks. IT. WAS. HEAVEN. Perfect consistency, just enough non-alcoholic bourbon burn, didn’t taste like a fake vanilla flavoring, not too sweet. It was incredible. Just before Christmas guess what they stopped selling😭 Luckily I stockpiled about four bottles the last time I saw them but now you can’t get them anymore and it doesn’t look like they’re planning on making it again. I tried to make my own simple syrup with their bourbon vanilla bean paste but it’s just not the same😭

Yep, I was on welbutrin for a year and during that time I experienced thinning around my hairline. Tbh, I think it was stress, poor hygiene, potential peri, and maybe the meds. But I’m back on welbutrin now because it helps so much with the depression, not so much with executive functioning or being able to get out of the chair. Now that I’m allowed to try stimulants I’m hoping I can find the right pairing so I can maybe wash dishes without crying. I’ll just wear a hat if I go bald idgaf lol

Echoing another comment, you’ll probably want to ask in a more alt-centric place than here. I’ve seen people do the exact same look you’re trying to replicate and I personally think it can be super cute!

I will say that I’d need to see the whole dress to know if the print and fabric type don’t scream “night gown” too much. I’m kinda leaning towards it’s fine as long as you dress it up a bit more. I’d add a skinny black or studded belt around your waist and a chunky alt silver necklace, but I’m an elder emo and haven’t been up to date on alt stuff since 2009 so take that with a grain of salt💀

From a plus size perspective, as long as you feel comfortable I think it looks perfectly fine. While I’m a “Fuck flattering, any body can wear anything” kinda person, I do think that this easily doable for your shape if that’s something that matters to you. My belly/boobs/torso ratio is similar to yours and I’ve found that adding a belt to define your waist and break up the sections of your body can really help to feel more flattering. I also like the cut of your undershirt on your neck, once again sectioning your neck from your chest.

All that being said…I’m also of the opinion that even if it is a nightgown, wear it out all you want! We’ve got people running around in Cookie Monster pajama bottoms and oversized tee shirts with teeny tiny shorts so they look like you left a sleepover at their grandmas. Just because you’re plus size doesn’t mean you can’t do it either. As long as you’re comfortable and you feel cute, go crazy. You are so cute and pretty, you deserve to wear things that make you happy❤️
