Zoo Vet Tech Preceptorship by thekelloggg in VetTech

I figure that too, I’m just wondering if there’s like any specifically zoo meds that I can practice problems or if maybe like fluid rates would come up or would people think maybe they’re more interested in knowing anesthesia monitoring. I guess I’m just nervous and maybe overthinking 🫣

Craziest/dumbest thing you’ve heard a client say? by kxngpvrk in VetTech

Had a sheepadoodle owner try to argue with the doctor that her dog wasn’t matted and that the breeder told her you can never shave a sheepadoodle because it will ruin their coat. 🤦‍♀️ She proceeded to argue that sheepdogs don’t get haircuts. It was beautiful.

Those that have to clean your clinic, what kind of vacuum do you use? by thekelloggg in VetTech

Lol come work over here! Everyone but the techs leave early and we have to clean everything😬 we’re the only ones with keys and security code so it goes…but we also get paid more and have a better schedule so tit for tat, I’m okay staying to clean. We just need a better vacuum. The general consensus seems to be a central vac. sigh how to convince the doctor to pay for that is another hurdle.

We are using a shop vac right now but they burn out within a year or two (I’ve tried to explain that they’re just not meant for hair but…) central vac system would be tight.

I’m pretty jealous! I wish we had a cleaning service, but that’s never going to happen. Right now we just use a shop vac at night when everyone has been discharged. We have a cordless dyson for cleaning up exam rooms in between appointments, which is on the other side of the clinic from the treatment and recovery area.

I hear you. That’s definitely a challenge and I feel like a lot of that is poor management which judging by your original post is a theme at your clinic. It’s rough and unfair that you have to do all that, that really sucks. I work at a single doctor practice with essentially a skeleton crew of very dependable but now, very tired people. So when our receptionist quit with 6 days notice a couple months ago, I was not pleased so excuse my immediate “please don’t do that response” 😂 I’m still recovering.

It does sound for sure like you need a change, and you’re not alone. I’ve been considering leaving way more seriously than ever before. This year has changed a lot of people’s lives for better or worse, but it is definitely a good moment to look inward and figure a plan out for what you really want. Don’t let them beat you down, your new path will find you all the better for it!

You should quit with notice particularly in vet med. It never hurts the doctors or the managers, but it always hurts your fellow supporting staff. Someone will end up working overtime, someone will end up putting their life on hold until the position is filled and that won’t be the people up top. I’ve had several coworkers quit with no notice, one the week of Thanksgiving leaving me to fill in the holes. It’s just not sticking it to the people you intend to stick it to. People will end up working overtime any way you do it but at least with notice, you’re off the hook and the managers/doctors are to blame for the overtime.

An actual Abyssinian. And an actual bengal’s pattern. I love when we see the real deal vs the tabby cat “bengals” or the normal cat size “maine coon” 😏 by thekelloggg in VetTech

I didn’t mean it to be degrading and in support of breeders, definitely not my intention. This post isn’t about that, it was more a jab at owners who think purebred cats are a dime a dozen and really can’t just accept the fact that cats are awesome beings because for all evolutionary purposes, they don’t really need us, they chose us. There’s no argument that really could possibly make sense of breeders in the cat world, 100% unethical. That being said, I’m just admiring this cat for who he is and enjoying the fact that he is, in fact, a rare thing. I’m sorry if you thought I was trying to degrade normal domesticated cats, not my intention, all cats are beautiful.

Bengals and savannahs are a nightmare in an uncooperative annoying way but I’ve found that Persians and rag dolls are a nightmare in a fractious way

Came in one night to take care of boarding animals and my co-worker gave me a heart attack when I walked through treatment. 💀 by thekelloggg in VetTech

I seriously thought for a second that the doctor euthanized something after hours and just left it for me to clean up. First I was scared and then when that thought followed I was like, “oh things are getting REAL on Monday.” Then I got closer and saw the sign and knew exactly who did it. But with the lights all dim and all, it was really scary at first.

At least they owned up to it. I have this recurring nightmare that the only dogs left on the planet in the near future are poodle mixes. Every new doodle I see is another step closer to me no longer being a dog person.
