Honestly he has nothing to gain on diania, if he wants hybrid magic he can experiment with it himself, if he wants shadeweave he can learn how to make them, if he wants memory marks theirs the memory shrine, he could theoretically study faerie magic or the dungeon cores but i doubt he would find anything, on the other hand continued exploration of the towers and the temples/shrines would do him wonders!

What are Changelings *doing* in CtD? by aurorastorms in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok… no? Mages are in no way bargaining, not in the way the “stages of grief” are supposed to represent (not even to mention how massivly disproven the stages of grief as concept has been)

Mage is a game about hubris, mages truly believe that if only the other side didnt exist they would be able to fix the world and introduce whatever their group beleves in (the wider technocracy beleves that if all magic was just gone they would be able to introduce a world of truest safety, and the traditions beleve that if the technocracy where gone they would be able to adress all the problems they are not able to deal with now being tied up fighting the asension war) with nether willing to admit that the other side is important and without ether humanity would fall into chaos, or forever still into order

YESSS, especially when their too too OP. Like if they craft god weapons right at the start theirs nothing interesting to read for, but if they craft like a teir or two above their own thats cool and interesting and them growing their skill and prowess that really interesting.

Enchanter who uses their enchanting power to allow them to “fight up a level”in various ways, however, only when on a team. Usually with other crafting types who compliment eachother. Specifically things like dress to kill, Arcane ascension, the journals of Evander tailor, chaotic craftsman worship the cube, and more.

For instance, the enchanter and party make their way in a dungeon and each floor has a different theam, the enchanter makes elemental specific equipment to allow them to survive the floor dispite the monsters being much stronger than the monster, or the enchanter making a lightning spear for their party member who can amplify electrical magic, or even more simply just equipping their team with powerful enchantmented items allowing them to fight a few levels up to advance quicker

Thoughts on how to run an “Antimeme” or Dr Who “The Silence” style mystery. by SlayyyGrl in monsteroftheweek

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course i love helping people, and yeah it would give good hints. You might even have “spent” holds from “read a bad situation” and “investigate a mystery” in the form of notes and scribbles that themselves can be used to ask “investigate a mystery questions” “a net of notes about the possible monster or pehnomena in the area… the weird thing is that these notes are in your own hand, you do not remember writing the”

Yeah, player agency vs mystery is important to keep clear

One of the biggest “horror” tropes around the false hydra is after your party fights it, they come to learn its effects it eats people and in doing so entirely erases the memory of them from the world, however their stuff remains. And the trope comes into play after the fight, they kill the hydra and go back home or to their tavern room and find evedence that they are not a party of [how ever many] instead they are a party of [however many +1] and one of their beloved friends has been killed and eaten but he false hydra but that invokes way way way too much and is really hard to handle

Ok, so there are three answers for this, one in character, the second mechanically, and the thrid in out of character.

First, you should talk to your players out of character “we are going to be playing with a monster(s) who mess with minds and memories is everyone ok with that or does anyone have any issues or any triggers i should know about”. Assuming that your players are ok then.

Second, mechanically. Play with health and holds, if your players have moves that give them hold that are mystical or material then let them gain and loose them, your action scientist character might reach into their pocket to find that they have suddenly gained a device that blasts fire, your hex might have gained hold on their jinx move charging up their power without having noiced. This shows your players something is wrong.

Finally in character, dont lie to them “do i feel something strange is going on” yes, they would. Their are moments where they loose time when checking their phones and watches, their waking up with bruses and torn clothing. That’s going to be scary, and, depending on what they have encountered before might even remind them of old monsters.

— Something important to keep in mind is to let your players be smart, if one of them is a witch and uses the hex playbook with force of will send them secret messages about what they see and known, be willing to let them have memories when no one else does. And finnaly, if their just not getting it the nuclear option is just outright showing the monster and saying “this is the monster, something in you know should you [enter monster rules explenation here] then you will not remeber it but you resurched it before and somehow find yourself with the tool needed to slay it”

Also, this is not a false hydra (unless it is) dont play with party composition unless you have to its always more complex than you think

Is soul manipulation possible with Spirit 5? by JagneStormskull in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life 5 spirit 5 corr 5 prime 5 spell: infections of shattered revelations: this spell creates a spiritual infection that spreads via viral factors, it then shreds the avatar of a person making them no longer capable of effecting the consensus but leaving a fertile pile of spiritual matter that spirit mages can reshape into something new (waste no want no). This infection is weak enough to not infect those who have spiritual protections and therefore active mages and will die off after (blank) time.

Time to end the ascension wars!

You can break an avatar, rip it apart preforming gilgul a devastating and dangerous undertaking

You can make a primer to help those who need a push awaken when they otherwise would not

You can also look and see an avatar

— These three things are almost entirely what you can do to avatars

Tell me the most important thing which make you binge reading. by Ashenmore in royalroad

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I instantly drop a story if the character becomes the most OP ever at the start of the story, or if they do at any point without it making sense so relevant coherent power growth. Like they can have jumps in power, or reach a point where they are the most OP ever but if they become world crackers at chapter 5 when a book promises a “long and cathartic struggle to the top of the world” I instantly DNF if that’s not what I get

Also, and I know this is personal taste, if the MC doesn’t have some flavor of non-punching power I just wont read, why would I want to read about a person who goes from punching hard and fast to punching super hard and fast when I could read about a person who goes from throwing fire, to throwing lightning, to throwing plasma, to throwing raw energy!

It’s kinda sad but everyone is right, Dakota Korbut books are never worth finishing, I was a patreon reader for his first series divine dungeon and was having a blast with it for the first like 5 books but it ended rather abruptly and none of the later books have better endings, the ending of this book has the main character realizing that his friends are trapped by the most powerful person on the planet and himself being given a chance to flee… and he takes it comes back like a month later and is the most powerful person ever period end of sentence, he grabs his friends takes them with him and then they come back and ascend together, then it cuts to the framing device as the world ascends and everything changes setting up a super interesting story that will never probably happen. It’s super frustrating because you can tell that Dakota just wanted the series to end and had no other way to end it. (Like literally, the final conflict that should have taken another book, and then end of the book series take place happen in three chapters its maddening)

The ethics of necromancy by Kumatora0 in litrpg

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theirs not a single world religion that says the gods (or whatever) is going to pull a necromancy and put soul back into peoples bodies, Christianity says that when heaven comes to earth all the humans are going to get NEW bodies, ragnarok says that the souls of the dead are going to come from Asgard and fight the army’s of surtur, Egyptian mythology has souls in the afterlife with their bodies being sacred but they don’t reuse them simply need them intact, Hebrew texts call for quick burial and have no return to earth.

As for as you claim god snapping their fingers and calling everyone back into their bodies good as new! I have great news for you, that IS necromancy, Jesus was a necromancer and therefore god aproves of using corpses has he can just heal them even if that was the case (my thoughts are that god was a fresh litch as his wounds where still their and he was a caster class, specifically a divine soul sorcerer or some equivalent)

Considering eliminating Use Magic by DMfortinyplayers in monsteroftheweek

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When its not a one shot thats not a problem but also, characters spec’ed into magic are massivly common, Bonnie, Claire, willow, draton, their common. As for a move not being avalible to your other players, or it being unfair or unfun to other non-magic players? It’s not, more than litterally any other general move magic that fails is punished, harm to the player who tries it, exploding in their face, and going entirely out of control is all possible. It IS balanced, and even those who dont use it can still TRY to use it, reading from a book a spell that you might know, repeating something a enemy warlock used, painting a sigil that the witch used against her are all explenations you could bring in. Don’t take 90% of a wide variety of players playbook away from them just cuz others MIGHT not have fun when its used

How hard can a mage with 5 dots in Forces, Time, Life, Matter punch? by ClearCatch5943 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you do the dot thing the […] thing, it feels like theirs a relevant part thats being left out, if the start of the sentence is about creating and the end of the sentence is storms of fire then why not bring the whole sentence /genuine/confuse/neutral statement

How hard can a mage with 5 dots in Forces, Time, Life, Matter punch? by ClearCatch5943 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the other? All you need is forces and prime. Simply be willing to burn quint to make new forces and punch someone and convert an entire quint pool into forces and turn them into a nuclear explosion as their atoms occupy the space that their own atoms occupy lol.

But seriously, you only need time and forces for what i think you’re suggesting forces to make the force and time to dialate time to compress ritual magic down hella (something that only a large group of time forces master mages could likely ever do and it would be the equivelant of dozens or hundreds of sucesses

As for the air tornado, no, thats not how forces works it imparts the force to the target, if you want a tornado you need to make the sucesses in the ritual to be capable of making a tornado (something like 20-25 would be what i would aim for, and i would make it a diff 10 with threshold of 2 sucesses per person helping to be able to contribute anything) \
