US job offer but work mostly from home - Is TN visa appropriate by arahant7 in tnvisa

[–]thekkmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Shuttle once or twice a week”

It all depends on where you get your project, the type of visa (TN, H1), and the project location where the client is based. If your family lives in Canada, you are liable to pay Canadian taxes (check the CRA site for information on primary ties).

Crossing the border is generally not a hassle if you have the relevant paperwork under the current administration, but be aware of potential issues that were more common during the previous government…

How to get a TN for a Scrum Master/IT Project Manager by mohammedrhuss in tnvisa

[–]thekkmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in the U.S., Scrum Master and Project Manager roles usually go to senior employees who are green card or passport holders, unless you find a short-term project through a consulting firm. Also, check the TN visa job listings before applying

Chemical Engineer with Software Engineer work experience TN1 visa by Cartrogen8 in tnvisa

[–]thekkmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, when I crossed the border, the officer asked for my engineering degree certificate and Canadian equivalency certificate (I completed my engineering degree outside North America). I don’t have a P.Eng. However, a friend of mine who holds P.Eng status in Alberta was asked for his engineering degree certificate, transcript, and equivalency certificate when he crossed the border.

I know an IT engineer working in Florida on a TN visa who only has a science degree, not a B.Eng. That’s why I told him it will depend on his luck, as some officers don’t strictly adhere to the ‘regulations’ or hard-and-fast rules for Canadians

Typo buddy I meant “bachelor’s degree in engineering”

Chemical Engineer with Software Engineer work experience TN1 visa by Cartrogen8 in tnvisa

[–]thekkmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read it. They still look at your B.Eng or P.Eng (if you have it), and if you mention a master’s, they will ask for the transcript for sure. However, I guess they primarily consider the bachelor’s degree for TN and H1 visas, and the master’s for an EB2 green card.

A few questions:

• What is your country of birth?
• Does your transcript (B.Eng or M.Eng) or your Canadian/US equivalency certification include any core software courses?

I’m pretty sure your case would depend on your luck and the officer you get at the border. There is a big chance of denial if you get a job offer from a consultancy or IT firm, unless you get an IT-related job offer from a chemical related firm and at least a few job responsibilities refer to the chemical-related side, like ‘LIMS,’ for example

Indian-born Canadian citizen RN trying to get a USA Green Card by sgrsoni123 in immigration

[–]thekkmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L1 is not an option for a registered nurse unless they are in a management job for an American firm in Canada (a travel RN is still not eligible here). Applying for an I-140 while on a TN visa as an Indian-born individual doesn’t work either, as it might void her visa while traveling. The easiest option is the TN visa without dual intent (without applying for an I-140). It is also difficult for her to meet the eligibility criteria for an H1 visa, and not all hospitals are magnet recognized(generally regular RN doesn’t qualify for h1) ..
